IC-Ep5-An Inn Too Far(Leonek/Salem/Elliot/Newton)

Ship Inn - Dunwich, England
12:50 AM- Saturday, September 7, 1985

"Mother, we're here!" called a woman from outside.

"Come on in, Victoria," said Y'Hali. "We have the inn secured."

A woman with similar features to the men who had accompanied Y'Hali entered through the rear doorway, toting a shotgun. She wore a one-piece bathing suit, but it didn't make her look any better. Leonek Novak and Elliot Webb follwed her inside. They saw several live Sea Devils, a few of them wounded, as well as a number of dead ones. One of the Sea Devils was female and wore a gold tiara. Elliot recognized her as Y'Hali, and one of the two hybrid men with her, the one in the swim trunks similar to Elliot's, as Randall. Both of them carried assault rifles. Salem Shields, Newton Noyes, an attractive redheaded woman wearing only a slip, two waterlogged Royal Navy sailors, and most of a squad's worth of UNIT soldiers had been herded into a corner. None of them were armed.

"Greyhound One, this is Gordon. I'm...." said Dr. Baxter's voice on the radio. "I'm better now. Where is everyone?"

"Greyhound One here," said the Brigadier on the radio. "I'm afraid you'll have to make your own way out. I'm sorry, but I can't say any more. Our communications have been compromised."

OOC,There is no need to roll Sanity here for the new arrivals, as both of you have either lost the maximum Sanity for hybrids and full Sea Devils or have seen the ones here before.

The naked redhead barely registered as Leonek scanned the room. Unsure how to react, he just smiled at Victoria before turning to Y'hali with a somewhat sheepish smile.

'Hello, ve came here to negotiate.'

[Mr. Handy]

"He means that he's going to try to convince his leader to surrender," said Victoria.

"You're welcome to try," said Y'Hali. "You can use the radio on that table to contact him. When I told him that we had taken the inn and defeated his other forces and told him to surrender, he said he'd get back to me. He hasn't yet, and I doubt he will. But perhaps he will listen to you."

"He is a fool, I warned him not to do this." Elliot turned to Y'Hali, "Thank you mother for not killing them, they were just following orders." He heads over and grabs a blanket or tablecloth and takes it over to the redhead to cover up. "Who are you, and how did you get into this mess?" he asks.

ooc,I'm assuming we don't know the redhead or you would have provided a name.

[Mr. Handy]

Y'Hali nodded to Elliot. "I have no desire to see any further blood shed," she said. "All I wish is peaceful coexistence."

"Th-thank you," said the woman, wrapping the tablecloth around herself and smiling at Elliot. "My name's Kate. I was sleeping in my room when all this shooting started. I came out to the lobby and saw all these soldiers running about. Then these...things took over the inn. What even are they? I don't like the way they look at me!"

Leonek looked around the room, sorrowfully counted the UNIT men and tried the radio.


"Sir, this is priwate Novak. They hawe us holed up in the Ship Inn and vant to negotiate. Vhat are your orders?"

"Mother, I don't think Kate has anything to do with either side, just a civilian caught in the crossfire. Let her return to her room and stay there till this blows over." Elliot requests.

[Mr. Handy]

Leonek counted five UNIT soldiers, in additiion to Salem and Newton. Only one of the soldiers was injured, and there were no dead soldiers in the restaurant.

"Very well, Elliot" said Y'Hali.

"I'll take her back to her room," said Randall. He escorted Kate through the doors to the lobby.

The sound of gunfire and screaming came over the radio, along with the Brigadier's voice: "Tell them to call off their monster, and then we'll talk!"

"Ah, that must be the Star-spawn," said Y'Hali. "So they've attacked the mansion, then. I have no way of contacting the Star-spawn, but it sounds like the problem will take care of itself."

Leonek frowned deeply, that was a sad, beaten-up crew that was left. His despair grew even more as he heard the screams and gunfire, Y'Hali's comment didn't make it any better either.



"Can't you do something? They are dying out there...", he looked more at Victoria than at Y'Hali.

Elliot sees Kate out, then goes to Victoria. "He's ready to surrender. Lets go stop this new threat. You held out on me, I didn't know about this one. A Star Spawn? what is that some small sun? Whatever it is, lets go stop it."

'..I would suggest pick up that radio and contact that star shuttle or what ever..'..Newton adds to conversation..'if both parties are willing to stop..'

"Stop attacking the creature," said Y'Hali into the microphone. "Your bullets have no effect on it. Your only chance to survive is to lay down your arms and surrender." There was no response. "I did not hold back on you," she said to Elliot. "I told you we were calling upon a protector for my son. That's the Star-spawn. It is not the spawn of a star or a spacecraft or anything of the sort. It is the spawn of Great Cthulhu himself, and it came with him to Earth from the planet Xoth aeons ago, before even I was born. It is extremely powerful and highly intelligent. This means it can be reasoned with, if it is dealing with reasonable people. If they persist in trying to kill it - in vain, for they cannot hope to succeed - then it will simply kill them first. I've done all I can. The rest is up to them."

"We'd never get there in time," said Victoria. "A Star-spawn of Cthulhu would easily kill everyone long before we could reach them. I'm sorry."

Elliot sat down in a chair. "Why wouldn't he listen. Damn him, he has gotten them all killed."

OOC,A Star Spawn, WOW!! That is some nasty *&^* there. And we were expected to fight these guys. To be honest, I'm having a good time on the winning side. Go Team!!

Elliot Webb,The Star-spawn wouldn't have been present if [i]someone[/i] hadn't told the Deep Ones and their offspring that a military attack was imminent. ;) Otherwise, they wouldn't have had the time needed to contact it once the raid began.

OOC,The UNIT soldiers were always intended to do the bulk of the fighting and the dying, and they have. There were numerous options for dealing with the Star-spawn, and I can go into them once the adventure concludes, which shouldn't be long.

Leonek looked around the room, he had seldom felt this helpless.

He locked onto the radio speaker and couldn't take his eyes off of it as the grisly scene unfolded.

Elliot looks at Leonek and then to Victoria. "We have to try something." He heads back out to the APC they came in.

'How many spawns are there?...,' Newton talks to Y'Hali further about spawns.. 'Aren't they dangerous to people living at Dunwich..?' 'How much these creatures have understanding of communicating with humans..'

[Mr. Handy]

"Great Cthulhu has many spawn," Y'Hali told Newton. "This world was his once, and it will be again when the stars are right and he rises from the sea. There is only one that lives near Dunwich, but it will not harm the people here so long as they do not attack it, and only a fool would do so. It cannot speak English, but it can understand it when it hears it spoken."

Victoria went out the back door with Elliot, and they got into the APC and drove southwest along Monastery Hill. When they reached the gate to the Lake mansion, there was no sign of anyone outside the walls. However, the servant guarding the gate told them that the mansion had been invaded. One of the other servants had been killed and another three wounded, but the other members of the Lake family had not been harmed. The Star-spawn had pursued the soldiers when they tried to flee, but they had somehow killed it before it could lay a tentacle on them before making good their escape.
