As UNIT's raid on Dunwich unfolds, disaster strikes. The opposition is prepared for their attack, and everything hangs in the balance of a battle that could go either way.
OOC,I can't be merciful when you roll a 99. :P
I can't see the dice roll in the "Self-Preservation" spoiler button. When you use certain characters in the caption, such as a dash or apostrophe, the button will not open. I'm not sure what you rolling against either.
Leonek, please make a Resistance Table roll, pitting your POW against a POW of 17. This means that you need a 20 or less.
Sea Devil's MP spent casting a spell.
[dice]0[/dice]
Leonek had just finished placing and arming the charges when he suddenly felt incredibly weak, only barely clinging to consciousness. Something invisible seemed to wrap around his body, crushing it and pinning his limbs, yet he could see nothing doing it. All he could do was watch helplessly while the timer ticked down and Rover started to advance.
OOC,There is no roll against POW needed to be able to flee from Rover, Carla. You can just say you're running. However, those excellent rolls don't need to go to waste. I'll save them for the next two rolls that come up, and the first one will probably end up being a Dodge roll.
Leonek, you are unable to move at all, though you can still speak. You are currently at 1 STR. Carla, you may act, though within the limitations of your insanity. That will last for the current round and three more.
Leonek let out a pitiful grunt as he felt his strength being squeezed from him.
Having not the strength to resist or cooperate Leonek is pulled along by Carla like a dead-weight mannequin, slumping to the ground with a powerless "oomph".
OOC:,You are indeed a cruel man :D :D :D
"He said we were all cooked but we were all right as long as we did not know it. We were all cooked. The thing was not to recognize it."
Leonek went as limp as a wet noodle, but Carla and Private Hodges were able to start dragging him away from the bomb.
Rover rolled away from the entrance, leaving no trace of the two soldiers. It bore down upon the three survivors, rolling right at them. Carla somehow managed to roll aside, taking Leonek with her, but Hodges was consumed by the thing! Leonek could still feel invisible tentacles squeezing him.
OOC,Carla, I've used your two previous critical successes. The first one is your Dodge roll, and the second allows you to take Leonek with you. It is now your turn to act. You may run while carrying Leonek, who is still helpless. If you do, another Dodge roll will most likely be needed, and you have no more successes saved. You're insane for this round and two more.
Slinging Leonek over her shoulder, Carla fled from the impossible spheroid. Rover turned about and rolled after her, leaving nothing remaining of Hodges. She bolted back down the tunnel and around the corner, returning to the entry chamber near the bottom of the stairs. However, the cavern was not as she had left it. Three more Sea Devils were waiting for her there, and the body of a Royal Marine in a wetsuit lay at the top of the sloping tunnel on the right that led down. He had a wound in his back and another more grievous one in his head. His brains were splattered all over the place. She was no forensic scientist, but she could tell it was the latter wound that had killed him. All of this indicated that the attack from the sea had actually reached the caves, but it did not appear to have gone well. The Sea Devils raised their spears and nets and rushed her, and Rover was close on her heels behind her.
OOC,Carla, please roll Sanity for seeing the Sea Devils. Sanity loss is 0/1d6. However, since you have already lost 4 Sanity for seeing Sea Devils, you may lose a maximum of 2 more. Any loss of more than 2 counts as only two. When that is done, please roll Sanity for seeing the dead body (against your possibly reduced Sanity score). Sanity loss is 1/1d4+1, so you will lose 1 Sanity even if you pass but 1d4+1 if you fail. If you lose 5 Sanity from this roll, you must roll Idea. If you succeed at that, it will extend your current temporary insanity, which has two rounds left. Regardless of the outcome of your Sanity rolls, the Sea Devils will get to act before you do.
Leonek is trying to mentally fight the constricting tentacles, complacently taking in all that is happening with the strangest and yet calming sense of remoteness.
"Ve should run, Sergeant.", he manages in a slurred deadpan.

"He said we were all cooked but we were all right as long as we did not know it. We were all cooked. The thing was not to recognize it."
OOC,Leonek, I forgot that you should also roll Sanity for seeing the dead Marine. I think you've already lost 6 Sanity for seeing Sea Devils, though, so there's no need to roll for them.
The three Sea Devils rushed forward, trying to trap Carla and Leonek in their nets, but she managed to elude them.
OOC,Carla, it is now your turn. If you want to flee, the tunnel ahead is level. The tunnel to the left slopes upward and leads to the stairs back to the ruins. The tunnel to the right slopes downward, and the dead Marine is at the top.
"Grrrr.... I'll be back for your delicious flesh!"
Carla rushes right with Leo in tow, hoping that the morsels don't follow so she can surprise them later.
Carla raced down the slope carrying Leonek, with Rover rolling right behind her. Soon the tunnel became partially submerged, deeping as she descended. The tunnel opened up into a large, round chamber. Once they emerged from it, the water was only about two feet deep. It surrounded a raised dais of dry land in the middle, as if it were a moat. On the platform stood a rectangular altar made of obsidian with horns on its four corners. Three additional tunnels led out of this room. The one in the left wall and the one in the right wall both sloped downwards, where the water got deeper. At the far end of this cave was a passage that was completely underwater that slanted further down. At the bottom of the slope lay two dead Sea Devils, with another two on the central platform. All of their bodies were riddled with bulletholes.
Rover squeezed itself through the tunnel and lunged forward, extending pseudopods that missed Carla by bare inches!
OOC,Carla, it is your turn to act again. This is your last round of madness.
OOC,Yes, this is where Leonek entered. He came in through the submerged tunnel straight ahead, which leads into the sea. Carla, if you go that way, you'll need to make a Swim roll at double your skill.
The path behind you leads up to the stairs that come out in the ruins, but Rover is in your way. You don't know what's down the side tunnels, which are partially submerged.
