Leonek was about to speak, but all of a sudden he heard something.

Both Leonek and Carla could hear noises from up the tunnel. There were splashing sounds, followed by footsteps. Many footsteps.

"Hatho, it is good to see you!" said the priestess. "How fares the battle?"

"We're doing well on the sea front, sister," replied an unfamiliar voice, most likely Hatho. "The destroyer is sunk, and the submarine too. We've captured some of the sailors on the beach, and they'll make good hostages. The inn is in enemy hands, though. Mother sent us to outflank them. We're to take Rover up through the ruins and come at the inn from the south while some of the guards have gone off to see Dr. Strong for some reason. How did things go here? I see you won, but what about the casualties?"

"They killed Kal'ee, and several of the others."

"Those monsters! I'll tear them to pieces!"

"Mother's going to be upset too when she hears of her brother's death. They paid for their temerity, though. Rover made short work of some of them, and the sharks and the others dealt with the marines. We've got four captives chained up below, including Kal'ee's killer. But that can wait."

Leonek wasn't feeling all too happy about the news he was hearing. Of course, it could be a trick to break there spirits, but if the destroyer had been sunk...

He tried to focus, taking some hope from the fact that the Inn was still in their control, and tried to test his chains, checking for flaws or ways to trip the mechanism.

Leonek found that the manacles and chains were made of stainless steel, so that the water did not make them rust. They were quite strong. The locks were fairly standard, and he was confident that he could have tripped them - had he been able to reach it. Being chained up as he was, he could not get at them. He wasn't very strong, but there was the off chance he'd be able to pull the chains out of the wall. His chance could be better of trying to slip his hands through the manacles, as he was fairly agile.

OOC,[b]Leonek[/b], you may make a STR roll if you want to try to break the chains loose or a DEX roll if you want to try to slip your hands out. If you get STR x 1 or less, you'll break both chains free. If you get STR x 2 or less, you break one free. If you choose to try the DEX roll, you need DEX x 1 or less to get both of your hands free or DEX x 2 to get one hand free. Once you have one hand free, that could give you other options. [b]Carla[/b], you may not make these attempts until your insanity has finished running its course.

After going over the options in his mind, Leonek felt confident he could slip out of the manacles. He waited for the creatures' attention to be focused elsewhere and tried wriggling his hands free.

He almost let out a frustrated groan, but managed to control himself. His hands were just too dry to slip through.

OOC,Could he perhaps try again, but this time by spitting on or licking around his wrists, or are the manacles out of reach?

More splashing came from the chamber above.

"Ah, Victoria," said Hatho. "You've come just in time. We're going to take the inn. And I see you've brought your boyfriend. Try to keep him out of the way."

OOC,[b]Leonek[/b], you may now try again. It just takes more time for each attempt. The chains are already damp from being in here. You're tall enough that you can reach them to spit on them, but it's not really going to improve your chances any further.

Leonek keeps trying, but to no avail.

Carla searches calmly for the keys on the walls, or elsewhere, while keeping an eye on the grotesques nearby.

"What the hell..." started a man's voice from up the tunnel. "Victoria isn't going into combat. We're here to help any wounded."

"You can start with Emilia," said Hatho. "She's been shot. It's a lucky thing that the sharks took care of some of those marines, or she'd likely have been killed."

"Oh, Emilia!" cried a woman. "What happened to you?"

"Sister," burbled Emilia. "Bad man shot. Him down there."

"Yeah, he got hurt real bad too," said one of the Deep Ones. "Serves him right."

Try as he might, Leonek could not slide his hands through the manacles. They were too tight. There were no keys hanging on the walls. It was also impossible to see the creatures from here, though they could both hear their voices from the tunnel sloping upwards.

Sergeant Carla Ecarg,You are anything but calm, as you are currently temporarily insane and should be talking up a storm. You are unable to take any other action for as long as it lasts, which is seven more rounds.

"...Elliot?", Leonek muttered as he identified the man's voice. If he had indeed defected, this would even worse, and if he hadn't, now might be their only fighting chance...

Leonek tugged and twisted for all he was worth, he had to get at least one hand free.

He let out a loud frustrated grunt, why were his hands so damn big?!
