OOC Discussion

In 1880, Africa is yet to be fully explored. The source of the Nile, Lake Victoria, has been discovered, but much of central Africa is a blank map, ripe for exploration. The motives are many; scientific fame, economic exploitation, or even spreading the word of the Lord.

Sir Archibald Winston-Smythe is a venerable emeritus professor of anthropology and history at the British Museum. Part of the first wave of explorers he is now far too infirm to travel again. And yet he has heard tales and talk from others who have carved deep into the Jungle. Rumours of depraved tribes and horrible cults cannot escape his notice.

In good standing and influence, he has commissioned another expedition into the very heart of Africa, past Lake Victoria and to the root of these strange stories, ostensibly for the progress of science and understanding, but also to determine the truth or otherwise of the stories of such locales. This hidden agenda is only alluded to, for the full horrors that bubble underneath are not for the ears of the brave men (or women) who will go boldly where no civilised man (or woman) has gone before.

Hi guys - Just to let you know I am still on this. As you may have gathered from other posts I have been ferociously ill the last two weeks and only just getting better.

As this chapter is at a critical point (and we are actually approaching the end!) with lots going on and lots of rolls (my own fault!) I am going to delay another few days because I need to be at full brains for this one, rather than coughing my brains through my nostrils. I hope to have something up in a few days time when more alive. I hope you can bear with me!

Ok then! Feeling almost human today!

Disecting out the walk of doom...

Mr Handy / Percy: Not drugged, Failed Sneak (but made luck roll), failed occult roll.

Priest / Baxter: Drugged (2 SAN loss), Failed Sneak (but made luck), failed occult roll.

Tabs / Burton: Not drugged, Failed Sneak (but made luck), failed occult.

As Singh is with you I am going to fluff it to keep in with the not stealthy-but lucky streak above. I will however roll for his drug-inhalation.

[dice]0[/dice]

which means hallucinations and [dice]2[/dice] SAN check.

[dice]1[/dice] SAN loss.

In summary you are all relatively safe from detection although Singh and Baxter are hallucinating. You are kind of in the centre of the party now, so you can creep off to the hut, or the swinging wooden cage, or anything else you fancy.

Priest, if you want to make any vaguely toad / Cthullhu / Tsoagotha type visions or hallucinations, or just see four sided triangles, then please go ahead.

Are we at fire and guns time? (i.e. set fire to central hut with gunpowder and gin, whilst Frenchmen open fire?)

Sorry I have dropped the ball here - partly due to general feb rush (I have been very at work due to long term sick of my co-worker). Partly just a ball drop.

I have ideas about how to take it forward, but before I do, how are you all and what are your thoughts - we are very close to wrapping the adventure. Ill just sound out here about whether you would like to have a follow up in Africa a few years (or more) down the line, that is, if you survive!

I'm ready to continue when you are, and I'd also be interested in another adventure after this one.

Nope, I shall resurrect this thread imminently (sorry again for delay, I have been doing two peoples jobs this year and my job is not exactly quiet at the best of times....in addition I am organising an academic conference - and speaking at it - this week!)

I hope to post this weekend, but again, if you have any thoughts please sing out, and if you are interested in another follow up adventure (like Mr H and Priest) let me know!

No, not at the moment, I have too much else to do. :)

I'd be interested to know a little about your academic conference?

I am organising a medical humanities conference! 2nd year now. Fun and rewarding but kind of nerve wracking too. I have the thankless task of preparing a back up talk so am preparing that to (in case of last minute cancels!)

I am actually contemplating a look at HP Lovecraft and his works in relation to psychiatry. Did he had fragile X syndrome (that magnificent face!)? did he have autistic spectrum disorder? Kleinfelters syndrome? And what of his works? A paranoid mind? Shcizotypal disorder?...well, its a thing I am contemplating anyway. May not do it. And if I do, I hope to make it as much, if not more, of a celebration rather than a hatchet job. HP Lovecraft was undoubtedly a disturbed, nay tortured, soul, but he had a unique and glorious vision and style.

Anyway, the Madness is back on! I hope you can help bring it to a close, Tabs, even if you cant manage a follow up!

On that note, would you be willing to NPC Burton for the follow up?

Cripes--I had to look-up "medical humanities," and the conditions, well, beyond me. But I would agree that unique talent comes about 'cos of unusual or trying circumstances.

Yeah, feel free to NPC Burton.
