OOC Discussion

In 1880, Africa is yet to be fully explored. The source of the Nile, Lake Victoria, has been discovered, but much of central Africa is a blank map, ripe for exploration. The motives are many; scientific fame, economic exploitation, or even spreading the word of the Lord.

Sir Archibald Winston-Smythe is a venerable emeritus professor of anthropology and history at the British Museum. Part of the first wave of explorers he is now far too infirm to travel again. And yet he has heard tales and talk from others who have carved deep into the Jungle. Rumours of depraved tribes and horrible cults cannot escape his notice.

In good standing and influence, he has commissioned another expedition into the very heart of Africa, past Lake Victoria and to the root of these strange stories, ostensibly for the progress of science and understanding, but also to determine the truth or otherwise of the stories of such locales. This hidden agenda is only alluded to, for the full horrors that bubble underneath are not for the ears of the brave men (or women) who will go boldly where no civilised man (or woman) has gone before.

Thanks, I had forgotten that! Sanity increases by 3. That makes up for my low skill increases.

I'm ready to proceed. I think we should try to get the French soldiers and Scar to accompany us.

and also working out who you want to come with you on the last leg
I'd suggest that we take along as many folk as we can. The French soldiers and tribesmen especially. If there is a battle, numbers and firepower could be decisive?

Sanity increase [dice]0[/dice] and skill checks
Burton: Handgun, Anthropology, Persuade, Hide, Jump, Knife,
[dice]1[/dice] [dice]2[/dice] [dice]3[/dice] [dice]4[/dice] [dice]5[/dice] [dice]6[/dice]

Handgun [dice]7[/dice] Hide [dice]8[/dice]
I will default to the PCs, Wessex, Singh, and two croc people hunters, but you are welcome to invite / persuade other NPCs if you wish.
I'll try and drum up support ic.

Ill wait for Priest to reply before wrapping up :)

Scar needs no persuasion. The French might waver, but will come if persuaded! :)

Ok Priest still needs to make a +1d3 San roll I think.

You are welcome to make final posts if you wish, although I think we are pretty wrapped for the final chapter.

Please say when you are ready to proceed! :)

And the final chapter arrives!

A couple of things as you would have travelled several more weeks.

1. Your resources are now 3/5.

2. You should make a luck roll to avoid a minor mishap on the way; choose something of your own taste - e.g. Contracted Malaria (no effects other than need to take Quinine), niggling injury or illness (some minor penalty to an attribute, HP, or skill), losing an item, or seeing something unpleasant (like a ritually mangled animal or so on causing a minor SAN loss like 1D2). No need to go to town with this, just a minor narrative flavour thing that represents the hardship of the road and might come into play.

3. As you will have spent several weeks in the company of Bantu and French, you may make an improvement roll to one of these languages for a modest 1D4% improvement (your choice depending on whether you socialise with the Frenchmen or Croc People). Of course if you socialise with neither no improvement roll (although depending on what you do do, you might gain other bonuses). This is not just a +skill roll but also gives a flavour of whom you lark around with as you travel (and thus presumably earn some trust and insight into).

I cant see the results of the rolls, so can't say!

Luck roll - fail means you choose some minor mishap as above.

Language roll - choose, narratively, whether to hang out with the French or the Croc People (or choose something else to do). If you do, roll 1d100, if this is higher than your language skill in question, gain 1d4% in the skill.

Like me, Tabs amazingly got a natural 1 on his Luck roll! Do we get a chance to increase our POW for getting 1s on our Luck rolls?

He rolled 1d4 for the increase and got a 1, but he still needs to roll higher than his current skill in French to get that increase.

Errr...I'm not honestly sure!

p101 rule book - yes! it appears so!

So:

Burton / Tabs has a 30% chance of a 1D3 POW increase

Carstairs / Mr Handy also has a 30% chance of a 1D3 POW increase.

Make those rolls, chaps! Also, if your POW increases you gain 5 Sanity per POW increase!

Pausing slightly for camp banter / discussion / whatever you want here.
