OOC General Discussion

Just a quick note on play and style.

This is the first play-by-post that I've run and I am happy to take feedback as the game progresses - either here or via PM. I will aim to be fair and open-minded. I want to run a fun, cinematic style game so I'll tend to favour character actions in that vein.

I'm not above fudging dice rolls or ignoring the need for them - if the role-playing is strong enough, characterisation is good or something is well planned then I don't think an aribitrary unlucky dice roll should ruin something. Having said that don't expect a free ride if something goes wrong either.

I think we're all adults playing this adventure and I don't have an issue with bad/colourful language - try and keep it in context and in keeping with the era.

You can use Invisible castle or the forum dice code for dice rolls - whichever you prefer.

I think that's all for now.

Move 'em on, head 'em up!

I like the game title, A Grim Prairie Tale is a good one!

My character, Harriet Tubman, will present herself in the character topic Monday.

"I work for him, but he is not my owner."

Invisible castle has not been working for days, at least for me. I'd reccomend using the forum dice code.

I was asked about income/money/equipment

None of the characters have an income - that's part of the reason why you're here, looking for work or a way to make money - legitimately or not.

Each character can start with 10 + 3d6 dollars.

Gear wise -

Mount - horse, mule whatever fits your PC. Your horse will be pretty standard run of the mill - it's no throughbred stallion Mustang or Appaloosa. It's a solid dependable mount.

Firearms - I don't mind but don't go mad. A rifle/long-arm and pistol(s) plus spare ammo.

The clothes you're wearing plus a change, a washkit (soap, razor, strop), water canteen, a couple of days rations (dried beans, jerky, coffee), a tin plate, fork and mug and a bag (saddle bags/ shoulder bag/carpet bag), bedroll.

Add some personal affects of your choosing - again don't go mad, keep it realistic with your credit rating and/or back history.

I've updated my character sheet. On Friday night I did manage to find my old character sheet from five years ago, as well as my copy of the WOC2 article.

Hey! My character draft has vanished. :o

I had rolled and statted the PC yesterday then saved the draft and asked the GM about equipment Where did it go? Darn it!

Did you check the User Control Panel? If you click Manage Drafts there, you should be able to load it. If it's not there, the only thing I can think of is that you might not have confirmed the save.

I realised the draft wasnt there when I checked the user control panel. Darn, all that typing and math wasted.

Rolls. One of my 3d6 rolls is 7 and one 2d6+6 is 15, can I swap these two around?--I am thinking of Harriet as petit so SIZ 7 seems appropriate.

Mr. Handy, I just re-read Murdoch's back story, it's like a history of the civil war!--good stuff.

Thank you! I know a good deal about the history, and it was interesting telling it from Jim's perspective.

Thanks, Papa! Everything happened to work out perfectly so that I could seamlessly weave his background with historical events and people.

Ok we have our protagonsists - nice character concepts and good back stories everyone. Great start!

I have space for another couple of characters and there will be suitable break points for them to join should somebody else want to play.

Ok, lets get this thing started - go here

Sorry Papa G my flipping computer has been playing silly buggers. Still want to play, so I'll try and put Dr Ethan P Farnsworthy together by the weekend.

Says his prayers nightly before retiring to bed. Gives names to his weapons.
I like it! Says all we need to know about Mario "El Monje" Malhecho.

Oops! Sorry - depending on how fast things develop there shouldn't be a great need for dice rolling/skills check before then, so feel free to start playing in the IC thread(s).

@All - you can choose whether you have arrived on the train or were already in town (the opening passage is from this perspective).

Thanks. It may also interst you to know that "Melhecho" means "ugly" (lit. "badly made"). Seemed appropriate for a character with APP 5.

I am going to pat all our backs here and claim we are a brilliant little bunch with nice levels of maturity. :)

Between racist mexicans, ex-slaves and realistic contemporary attitudes towards an historical war, this must be one of the most polliticaly-incorrect Call of Cthulhu games ever right from its onset. Other people could well be screaming bloody murder right about now and lamenting our version of the Wild West does not conform to a more idealised John Wayne paradigm (which is also cool as heck btw, The Duke rules!).

I'm glad to be playing with you folks and feel we're going to have a lot of fun.
