The UNIT team members are split up and must flee from Dunwich for their lives. Elliot is captured by the Sea Devils and their hybrid offspring, and Brigadier Crichton organizes a raid to deal with the threat in Dunwich.
North Sea, off the coast of Dunwich, England 12:00 AM- Saturday, September 7, 1985
HMS Brighton made her way steadily up the coast of East Anglia. The rain was coming down in sheets, and the cloud cover blocked all sign of moon and stars. At around midnight, Captain Hart called out "All stop!"
Sergeant Valentine Hale stood on the deck. To port, there were faint lights visible in the distance on the shoreline and beyond it. His hand-picked squad of Royal Marines in UNIT was with him, ready for action.
"We're in position," announced the captain. "That's Dunwich over there. I've also had radio contact from the Intrepid, which is also in position. Sergeant Hale, you and your troops make ready to deploy the dinghies. The undersea cave that's your objective is due west of us, but we must wait until the land forces are ready before you hit the surf."
"Aye-aye, sir!" said Valentine. He peered into the storm. "I think I see a boat out there, sir. A couple of people in it, but I can't make out any details due to the darkness and the pouring rain."
"Well, we'll keep an eye on them, but I doubt they're a threat. But who would go out in this weather?"
Sergeant Valentine Hale gathered his squad, five handpicked men who had also fought in the Falklands War. All of them were wearing wetsuits and stood ready while he addressed them and went over the plan once again.
After a while, the captain stuck his head out of the cabin. "Stand by for action, Sergeant!" he shouted before ducking back inside.
"You heard him, chaps!" barked Valentine. "Get those dinghies ready! Two men to a boat! Jenkins, you're with me!" The men rushed to obey his order.
No sooner had they prepared the three dinghise to be lowered over the side than the captain emerged from his cabin. "Sergeant, go now! Godspeed, all of you!"
The men scrambled aboard the rubber dinghies, which the crew lowered into the water.
Sergeant Valentine Hale and his Royal Marines paddled their three boats towards the cliffs where they had been told the underwater entrance to the caverns was. They were most of the way there when a sudden rushing sound from behind them attracted their attention, and they glanced back. A massive wave, some thirty feet high, was coming in from the sea, towering over the HMS Brighton behind them.
"Holy hell!" cried one of the Marines.
The wave crashed against the destroyer with its full force, knocking her onto her side and capsizing her. Then it continued, looming over the tiny dinghies and the Marines in them...
