Sergeant Valentine Hale and Peter Rock made their way to the building that housed the armory and the firing range. The corporal on duty looked up as they entered. "Can I do something for you, Sarge?" he asked.
Peter browsed the contents of the armoury, memories of his previous military service came flashing back to him as the sergeant spoke with the corporal.
"Of course," said the corporal, walking out from behind his desk and opening an interior door. "The range is through there and down the hall. They'll have the paperwork you'll need to fill out there. And you, Sergeant? What weapon do you favour?"
"Enfield IW rifle," said Valentine, patting the rifle he carried.
"Right, this way," said the corporal, leading him after Peter. They soon arrived at the firing range. Some of the firing lanes were short, with targets at ten yards away. Those were the ones intended for pistols, shotguns, and submachine guns. Others were much longer, with targets at fifty yards, meant for rifles. Partway down each alley was a paper target with a human silhouette, concentric rings rippling out from the heart and brain. The corporal got ear protectors and a magazine each for both men. He placed another pair of ear protectors over his own ears. "All right, chaps, you may fire when ready."
OOC,Valentine, please make six Rifle rolls to see how well you do. Peter, please make six Handgun rolls.
Sergeant Hale also fired several times at his own target. When they finished firing, the corporal pulled a couple of levers that brought the targets to the front. Both of them had hit with about two-thirds of their shots. Three of Peter's shots had hit his target in the heart. Valetine had drilled his target once in the heart and once in the brain. "Well done," said the corporal. "Nice grouping there," he added to Peter.
