If there is a light on or any kind of life, Elliot will give his last sprint to head towards the cottage of Virgil Soames.

If the house is dark and appears empty he will go into a long distance run pace and head for the town, hoping the fish are more adept in the water than land.

Elliot bolted across the street towards Virgil Soames's cottage, where a light was on in one window. He reached the front door, which he found locked. The fishmen were just a short distance behind him, loping and hopping across the road.

Elliot pounds loudly on the door. "Mr. Soames, Virgil, are you there? Help please."
.
Elliot won't wait long if there is no answer and the beasts are getting closer he will run around to the back and try the back door.

Footsteps approached the front door from within the house, and a light went on in the window next to the door as well. The creatures chasing Elliot paused, then faded into the shadows. A moment later, the door opened to reveal Virgil Soames carrying a double-barreled shotgun in his left hand, pointed at the ground at an angle. "Mr. Webb," he said. "I think you'd better come inside." He stepped out of Elliot's way.

Elliot leans back when he sees the shotgun, but is greatly releaved at Virgil's words and quickly slips into the cabin. "Thank you for opening the door, at least 5 of the beasts are out there. Sorry to lead them here sir, but I was on my last leg, I didn't have much choice." Elliot stands behind Virgil looking over his shoulder trying to catch his breath at the same time.

Once Elliot was safely inside, Virgil shut the door and locked it securely, with both a deadbolt and a chain. "Oh, they know better than to bother me," he said. "I'm afraid I'm not much of a doctor, but I do have some iodine and bandages. I could call Dr. Strong if you like. He still makes housecalls. What happened to you? You look like you've been beaten half to death!"

Elliot Webb
.
The pain from the wounds came rushing back. "damn it must have been adrenaline keeping me going." Elliot sits down in the nearest chair. "I don't want the Doc to risk himself coming here. If I can just stay till morning I can be on my way." Elliot closed his eyes and tried to relax for the first time since he awoke.

"You're welcome to stay, and you'll be safe under my roof," said Virgil. "You may want to stay longer, as once you leave you'll be in danger again. I'll get the medical supplies. Would you like some tea? Something to eat?"

Elliot Webb
.
"I don't want to be any trouble. Do you have a phone I could use to check in?" Elliot asks.

"Yes, there's one in the study," said Virgil. He opened a door in the left wall and led Elliot inside. The study had mahogany panels covering the walls. It contained a large fireplace, currently lit, a big oak writing desk with several drawers, a comfortable-looking leather armchair, and several shelves lined with books. An old-fashioned telephone was atop the desk, as was Midnight, who was curled up and sleeping.

Elliot picks up the phone and asks the operator to be connected to the Ship's Inn. When connected "Yes miss, I'd like to leave a message for my aunt. Ms. Valarie Soames, yes she is a guest there. Just leave the message that 'Elliot is staying at Virgil's house tonight, I'll see her in the morning.' Yes, that is correct. Thank you very much."
Elliot then sits down and sips a cup a hot tea, as its warmth floods through him, he nods off at some point, exhaustion and sweeping over him.

"I'll be sure to pass your message on, sir," replied Annie Howard on the phone before hanging up.

While Elliot had been on the telephone, Virgil had stepped out. He returned with the promised medical supplies and tea. Before Elliot had a chance to do much, there was a loud, insistent knock at the front door.

"Wait here," said Virgil. "I'll get that."

With the knock on the door Elliot's training kicked in and he was up looking for a weapon. Spotting the fireplace poker he grabs it and stands where he can see the door before Virgil can open it.
"I'm not sure you want to open that. It could be those creatures." Elliot says.

"Thank you for your concern," said Virgil, "but I'm quite capable of taking care of myself. The creatures know better than to bother me, and when they do come for someone they don't tend to knock." He made his way to the front door, holding the shotgun behind it. He undid the deadbolt but left the chain on as he opened the door slightly. "Good evening, constables. How can I help you?"

"We're looking for a dangerous fugitive," said the voice of the sergeant. "He and his friends assaulted us earlier. We managed to catch him, but then he got away from us. We got a report that he was seen on your property."

"Well, you're the only ones I've seen tonight."

"He might be hiding on the premises. Do you mind if we have a look around?"

"As a matter of fact, I do mind."

"We can just go and get a warrant, you know."

Elliot keeps quiet ready to attack if they come in, quickly glancing around the room to see if there is something better than the fireplace poker to use.

There were no better potential weapons visible.

"Then that's what you'll have to do," said Virgil. "I bid you gentlemen good night." Then he closed the door and returned to Elliot, ushering him into the study. "They must be looking for you," he said quietly. "I doubt they'll wait until morning either, given how anxious they seemed to find you. They can rouse the magistrate, who's in Lake's pocket, and get a warrant as a mere formality. It'll take them some time, but not too much. In the meantime, I'm sure they'll have someone watching the house."

Elliot
.
"Thank you, but I don't want you to get you in any trouble. Is there a way out of here that they won't be able to see me? " Elliot asks finishing off his tea rather quickly.

"Well, it's dark out, which will help some," said Virgil, trying to treat Elliot's injuries but unable to do much. "However, you're going to need some more help. I can...raise a fog. Once it comes in off the sea, that will cover your escape and they won't see you leaving."
OOC,Elliot, you may attempt a First Aid roll to treat yourself if you wish.

Elliot says, "let me do that" as he takes the bandages.

But only half way through the wrapping his eyes open as what Virgil said finally sinks in, "raise a what???"

"A fog," said Virgil, as if there were nothing unusual about what he was saying. "Off the sea. I realize this may be hard to believe, but after you've seen those creatures, you must now be aware that there are more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy. Some of my ancestors were Vikings, and I've learned a bit of their magick." The way he pronounced it, the "k" at the end was almost audible. "Once the fog comes in, it will remain until morning. That will give you plenty of time to make your escape unseen. If you come with me to the kitchen, I'll show you. Why are they after you, by the way? You must have stirred up quite a hornet's nest!"
