The Athenaeum - Lounge (ooc)

Meet the would-be participants of The Carlyle Expedition.
The year is 1913.
The scenery may vary depending on whom we follow.

Keepers of "Masks of Nyarlathotep" may recognize this as a pre-MON scenario.

Follow Nigel Blackwell on the Congo river or meet up with Erica Carlyle for a Sundae at the Dairy Queen.

Welcome and let's talk!

First, how is the layout working is it breaking the forum-feeling or not?

It's different, but I like it. Adding pictures to the subforum legend is a nice touch. I didn't even know you could that.

Are we allowed to only look at our own character sheets? And should we not read the other players' threads?

Feel free to be omnipotent and use the all seeing eye to follow the story. Don't tell your character, though.
I guess this is the only way to make heads and tails of the story. To get some glue to piece it all together with.

I'll add a communications thread for sharing information with allied parties, should you not want to read others threads.
There you can write diary entries as well.

There's not very much in the character dossiers, but I wanted them handy. It was fun to find old Roger Carlyle in the French Masks edition...

The images were a great idea.
By the way, shouldn't Nigel have some points in antropology? Since he has traveled so much and dealed with natives in diferent places.

Not being the most attentive adventurer, Blackwell receives a 1d12+3 % in Anthropology. He mostly quotes secondary sources in his works. He will have trouble going into depth describing specific differences between races in a correct linguistic manner.

Yes, that makes sense. He has superficial knowledge, enouth to impress someone outside of the field, but won't fool an expert. Or an amateur.

Looks like Nigel might have picked up bits and pieces, after all! Check out the maps section in New York to get the lay of the land.

:!: OK, so I improved the front page with clickable images. Now you don't need to aim for the text.
Hopefully you find the pre-history of MON to be at least readable.
Also, the introduction thread now hold some backstory agencies and persons of interest. As is the supporting cast thread.

Enjoy!

Need to figure out how to do that for The Last Express!
Is it bad that I listen to this about ten times a day?

Greetings, I was invited to play in this scenario. This would be my first and I have little idea of how a Play by Post game works. Looking under the Cast section, I find that there is no name underneath Jackson Elias the Mythologist and thus I assume his spot is empty and would like to play as him. If not then I choose the old anthropologist from the supporting cast section. I hope this to be a fun and eldritch experience. Just direct me to what I need to read and where I need to post.

(edit)Ah! I see now. All playable characters are under the supporting characters section. I will go with Anthony Cowl then.

Welcome drone232! I will send you the details of prof Cowles in a while. You may read the stories of the other characters to see what has happened so far. Remember that your character doesn't have your knowledge.
