Recently Mason has acquired a job at Lee Vining Motel as assistant handyman. He's supervised by Fredrick Walker.
Fredrick Walker is an old man — old enough to consider Television set to be the proper way to say TV. He lives in the room down on the far end of the motel (the side furthest from the rest stop) and, between the pittance that he earns on top of his permanent residency, his Social Security check, and his veteran’s pension, he manages to eke out a decently comfortable pay. Fredrick goes to bed early most nights, and is up before dawn to make breakfast on his hot plate and watch the news while he does his morning exercises. Rarely does anyone at the motel ever need to call upon Fredrick
to fix anything, but that’s mostly because of his daily rounds, checking this and that, and otherwise making sure that everything runs smoothly.
Not only does he fix the things needing fixing at the motel, he is a wizard with electronics as well.

From his room Mason spots a bright yellow Jeep Rubicon stopping outside the truck stop on the other side of the road. Three persons in the vehicle. At least they weren't bikers. This place had been overflowing with them when Christie Reese decided to perform.

Benjamin looks around his room to check the time, he wasn't very fond of the big attitudes these biker fellas always had, but he was relieved to see a different set of faces. Rubbing his eyes, Benjamin made his way to Mr. Walker if he needed anything.
The other children cheered him on. His name voiced in a steadily rising pace, urging him to do it. “Am I really doing this?”, the young boy thought and struck his victim with a rock.
A mahogany clock radio displays 23:02. It's a warm September night. While walking over to Walker's room at the end of the row of rooms he sees the yellow Jeep park in a vacant bay. The driver exits the car and heads for the office where Adam Chen is calling the shots. The driver carries a large canvas kitbag.

Getting over to Walker's room - the wall is barely visible here, since the light overhead seems to have died out. The door before Benjamin looks to have had its number plate
removed, and only two dark holes in the door mark where it once rested. Inside he finds the old man dissembling a laptop at a folding table.
"Ah, there you're son. Most thankful for the company." He lifts out the keyboard. "It's got a faulty dc-jack, gotta solder it tight."

Approaching towards Mr. Walker, Benjamin leans over at the laptop, "I'm surprised you're still up Mr. Walker, you're usually in bed early."

He offers his seat by the folding table. "Then, I can go and watch the band before I call it a day. When Christie plays, I stay up. You know what I mean?" He snickers as he leaves his room. From outside he hears Walker comment. "Good job with the windows, son. They're spotless!"
