OOC:   Marcus is heading for Las Vegas. A security convention is requiring his expertise. Ms Williams and Ms Petersen are along to cash in on the tables - if nothing ele. And to catch up off course. Driving down road 120 the bright lights on a truck stop in the middle of hiking trails, Lee Vining. Two hundred and two souls. An emergency made him pull over. What emergency was that?

What has Marcus been doing the last week?

Use what you like from this post and add it to the Cast thread, please. If you have better pictures, use them. There will be a proper game thread when all intros have been covered.

Did I mention Marcus get the opportunity to boost his skills after the ten year wait? If you roll above his skill level, you get 1d10 push in that skill.
It's got to be worth staying alive, right?
OOC:   Updated the skills!

OOC:   The emergency? Habs received a mysterious message on his cell phone and needs a landline in a hurry. He is cagey about why or who he needs to contact? How does that sound for a plot 'in'? I was also thinking he might be escorting Tony's ashes to Vegas to scatter them in the desert as per his will or something, they've been released from evidence?!? Just spit-balling ideas here.

Last week? Marcus has somewhat retreated from 'normal' society, preferring to live off the grid. He occasionally surfaces to help someone (I'm watching person of interest series at the moment and like how Reece just pops up and then disappears, 'A-team' style. He spends time in his log cabin with his dogs, hunting and fishing. Last week he helped his neighbours raise a barn and then went about his normal day to day life off the grid. He turns his hidden cellphone on every saturday for an hour between 5am and 6am. Perhaps this is how Kat and Mel managed to reach him.

Receiving the message and pulling over at the busy truck stop in the middle of nowhere made no real sense. Marcus had been planning this all the way. Attend the convention and scatter the ashes of Tony Davis. Now it comes to a grinding stop at Lee Vining.

He maneuvers the vehicle to the curb and almost, just almost bumps into one of the dozen motorbikes standing lined up along the side of the place.

Melinda and Kathryn had visited him back up the lodge. Bodie had been a perfect place to retreat to. The small air strip at Lee Vining helped with his deliveries as well. Small but it has everything you'd need. Christie Reese was performing tonight. Marcus had bumped in to her for other reasons. If you have something you need off your hands, she's your girl to go to. Buying and selling was her game.

The band came second. But she seemed to enjoy herself.

He waits for the girls to comment on him stopping. It's ten to eleven at night. Might be a good idea to stay the night. There's a motel across the street, he notices.

Personal vehicle is Jeep Wrangler, Yellow - 2010 model (Yeah nonedescript, right...they've met Marcus yes? Even a little grimmer he still is an extrovert!):

Marcus felt like he could finally lay his friend to rest, the department had finally agreed to release Tony Davies' remains into his custody. He and Tony had often thought about retiring to the desert and Vegas attracted them because of their fun-loving attitudes...that was then. Marcus laughed less these days, the things he had seen had taken their toll and without his good buddy, life seemed to be lacking its old vigour.

He was glad to hear from his old friends Mel and Kat again, it was good to let the past go all at once. He intended to pay his respects to his dead partner and close the door on that chapter in his life by finally saying goodbye to Mel and Kat. It was time he moved on, perhaps south of the border. He had heard good things about the mountain air in Peru and trekking in the jungle appealed to his yearning for travel. He had not been into the jungle since the Marine Corp...

Lee Vining, just another little backwater to lose himself in...God he needed a beer around now and there was a band. Hopefully they would be loud and he wouldn't have to say much. He didn't really know what to say...

In the Jeep Rubicon, Mel is taking a call as Marcus pulls over.
-Yes, I understand, he he was the guy of your life, nevermind you just met him last week- no, of course, I'm not teasing you, I undestand, true love is like this and...(pause) you give him how much????
Ok Mary, relax yourself. Don't worry, I'm sure he will come back in a couple of day, he probably had some trouble and couln't tell you. Yes, of course I'm sure. How are Cheng and Latoya? They are still sleeping? And you think that they... Ok, I have to go now, I'l call you latter.

"I can't leave those girls for a single day"- thinks Melinda- "I'm getting too old to this".

Marcus frowns at the cellphone, it's been a while since he had used one for anything but checking messages. To see Mel use it like it was an extension of her arm unsettled him a little. Kat was quieter, he appreciated that much and she seemed to sense it. He pulls the Jeep into a empty bay and grabs his kitbag from the open rear compartment.

"I'm goin' check into the motel and grab a shower to freshen up mi amigos." He gestures at the biker bar, "A little rough around the edges maybe, but if they have something cold on tap then I'm all over that place later. Do you want to grab a bite and a beer say in around an hour?" The voice is still the same, charming grin still in place but Marcus seems to have withdrawn into himself and there is no real passion or conviction with his words. It's almost as if he is going through the motions...

When he checks in, under an assumed identity using cash (a little bit extra to avoid any awkward questions), he will hit the shower. First though he will check his room throughly and unroll his sleeping bag on the floor on the far side of the bed from the door. He doesn't trust motel beds... Not anymore...
OOC:   He'll use his old alias from the Skinner days, I can't actually remember what that was though :) If you've seen the first few True Detective, I'm going for a Matthew Mcconaughey, but not quite as jaded and intense - just someone whose ready to move on. I've only seen the first 3 true detective but I really must get back to it!

OOC:   This feels great! I have to stop here to make sure the others have their characters ready. But then I'm moving this to the Drop-thread.
Have not seen True Detective, but considering giving it a try.

OOC:   Surely the references to the king in yellow must suck you into the short series if not the awesome performances from Woody Harrelson and Mcconaughey. Like I say its very dark but the first three feel like they've filmed a 'twin peaky', small town Modern Call of Cthulhu investigation - I believe it veers away from the supernatural elements later on but it is rife with possibilities. There is one scene that I won't spoil in episode three where they go to investigate an abandoned cult church....goose-bumps!!!

Okay I'm good to hold off on this till whenever you need me!

Handing over the sixty bucks for the neatest room night manager Adam has to offer, Karl Muller leaves his contact information as Adam enters them in the computer behind the counter. "Sweet ride there, mr Muller." He hands over a key attached to a chain and a small leather patch. "It's number one. At the end towards the bar. Have a nice stay, mr Muller."
OOC:   And we're back! Moving to The Drop.
