IC Ch10: Back to Maps

[Mr. Handy]

"The monster must be loose now that Phil's dead," says Eddie. "Everyone's fleeing from it, and they looted the sheriff's office, no doubt looking for weapons. It shouldn't be too hard to find if we follow the trail of destruction it would have left. We'd better deal with it now, before it gets dark."

"Right," said Alyssa. She looked for tell-tale signs of the monsters passing.

As you drive down main street you see cars wrecked and abandoned, clothes, trash and other debris strewn along the street, dropped and forgotten. As you pull up to the first major intersection, it is the 5 way stop with Railroad Ave to the left that leads to the rail station, Parker street to the right. Broadway leads off at a 2 o'clock heading while Main continues off at an 11 o'clock direction. You haven't seen any real damage that would have been caused by more than people.

To your left is the Smith Hardware and Lumber store you stopped in, what seems like months ago, the door is wide open.

Alyssa,you think you see movement in the store.

[Mr. Handy]

"I guess we could take a look inside," says Eddie. "Probably already been looted, though. We might check the Colonel's house. He's probably split with the rest of them, but we can always access the tunnels through there. If we can't find any trace of the creature on the surface, we can find that pit and pick up its trail from there. We know it started there. If we stick around here long enough, it'll probably find us, but I'd rather we get the drop on it, and before it gets dark."

"There's movement in there," said Alyssa. "It can't be anything but the monster, can it?"

[Silver Priest]

"Or maybe a looter." Norman whispers.

"If you think its the monster Alyssa, we should burn down the building. I'd rather get it before it gets us. And anyone left in this town probably ain't innocent anyway." says Richard.

"We can't just kill someone sight unseen," says Eddie. "We've got to at least take a look inside. I doubt it's the monster. Whatever that thing was, it had to be too big to fit through that door."

Now that everyone is looking it looks like the size of a person, throwing things around inside the store.

[Mr. Handy]

"I think that's a person in there,' says Eddie. "We should talk to whoever it is, maybe find out some information about the monster and where it's been seen."

[Silver Priest]

Norman nods and heads closer to the store.

"Hello? Is anyone in there? We're uh, friendly."

Richard seems frustrated and lets out a sigh. "Fool's going to get himself killed!"

"He probably will do, Mr. Rahl, but he's doing his best. Anyway, we look a pretty fearsome crew so hopefully the looters won't bite at us?" Her shotgun held at high port, signalling their peaceful intent and a visible display of firepower, she stalked after Norman.

As the 5 of you walk up to the open door you can hear talking coming from inside. You can't make out any words per say a lot of yammering and words you've never heard before.
As one of you looks into the doorway a lantern smashes against the door frame. You're not sure if it was thrown at you, or just happen to be in your direction.

You see Cristina, the smallish young woman with curly black hair, walking around gibbering. She has a large handgun in one hand waving it around like she has forgotten she is holding it. Her hands are gesturing in wild patterns and the gun is just going wherever her hand is going. She is yelling at something but you can't see anything and occasionally she picks up something off a shelf and throw it in some random direction. The place is trashed and she doesn't seem to realize you are there.

[Mr. Handy]

"We'd better avoid her," whispers Eddie. "She's not in her right mind, and she's armed. Not a good combination. There's no telling how she'll react. Back to the car."

[Silver Priest]

Norman tries to return to the car. Though part of him wants to talk the girl down, he's not willing to risk agitating her further.

Alyssa nodded. "Somebody 'll get hurt."

You make it back to the car safely.

OOC: Which way do you want to go?

[Mr. Handy]

"Let's check the colonel's house," suggests Eddie, getting back behind the wheel. "At least we know he's an ally if he's still there."

Alyssa placed the shotgun next to her across the rear seat.

"Maybe he'll join us in our hunt for the monster?"

You continue on Main street, still everything seems normal until you get up to Beach street. Here you can see the ocean a couple hundred freet in front of you. But blood is everywhere. You can see some half eaten bodies scattered around the street and guns scattered around. The Sheriffs car is there blocking the road and the roof is smashed in. Several buildings stretching to your left are damaged on both sides of the road. The appear to have been smashed by something large, like a telephone pole or tree.
It looks like the towns people tried to make a stand here and possibly succeded. The buldings to your right going down towards the square and the Memorial Hall appeared undamaged. There is no sign of any people alive here or of any monster.

You cannot drive any further this direction.

Eddie slumps back as he takes in the horrific scene. He has only seen anything like it once, on that terrible day in Boston, and the knowledge of it rips apart his mind...
