IC Ch 8: Off to Visit the Church

"Yes, I agree," says Eddie. "Let's go now, there's no more time."

OOC,We wanted to bring the people we rescued with us so we could get them out of town in order to keep them safe.

In all seriousness I don't mind what we do, but I imagine the people we rescued probably want to flee town unless they really trust the colonel's ability to keep them safe.

OOC,Sounds like a bit of confusion on the timeline. You are still in the same day. In the morning, you went to the church. You spent a few hours exploring the tunnels, then got into the fight. Gathered up the prisoners and fled. You made it back to the Colonels that late afternoon. You then rested for a couple hours, shared stories, ate, dried off, cleaned up, etc... We are now closing in on late-evening - night of the same day. Its been busy.

You step into the graveyard and immediately something feels wrong. The tendrals from the fog grasp at your legs, but lets go with the slightest of movements. The sounds of the sirens fade away, the only sound you hear besides yourselves is the feint sound of the ocean. Even when someone speaks its muted and quiet. The sun quickly disappears over the horizson and night falls. The 3 people you rescued are huddled together following you, at least one of them is wimpering.

Ever eager to avoid trouble, Norman spots something.

Those that pass Spot Hidden,you see a shadow moving between the tombstones off to your right.

"There's someone - or something - moving among the tombstones on the right," whispers Eddie. "Let's avoid it, but keep an eye on it." He keeps his revolver in his hand behind his back.

"Oh God!" said Alyssa, and then unnecessarily, "Everyone hurry along."

You move along quickly through the graveyard, but something is wrong. It seems like you have been running a long time and you haven't reached the end. Someone mentions they swore they saw that gravestone just a few minutes ago. The fog is thicker and every step seems more and more difficult to take. Instead of neat rows, the graves seem very half-hazard and run in different strange angled directions, like they are forming a pattern. You no long hear any noises other than your own heavy breathing. You aren't sure which way the road is, or even which way you are supposed to be heading. Everyone is now seeing shadows moving just out of the corner of their eyes.

"Get the compass out," says Eddie. "We want to head west from here, towards where the sun was setting." He points off into the distance, his sense of direction perfect. "It's that way."

Aunt Loosa quickly becomes disoriented by the unnatural fog curling around her. She tries to concentrate on it, calling on Papa Legba to guide the spirits to her, to help find a path through but she becomes more disoriented, losing sight of her companions

Eddie! she calls, her voice sounding unnaturally frail and frightened...

"Yes, this way!" says Norman, attempting to lead the others.

There is some confusion as most of you are lost on direction but Eddie and Norman are both very positive on which way to go and everyone starts to link hands to go.
Allysa reaches out for Aunt Loosa's hand and feels the comfort of the older woman. But after a few feet she turns and sees it is the hand of the woman they rescued from down in temple. The woman smiles at Allysa as a look of panic crosses Allysa's face.

You scan through all the faces in your small crowd and realize Aunt Loosa isn't with you any longer.

Aunt Loosa only,you are quickly disoriented and you close your eyes to find the lay lines. But instead of the conformting straight lines you are use to, these are strange, half hazard and take extremely strange angles. You realize Papa isn't going to be much help, you had already spent too long following his lead, if it was him. You heard the others sounding confident on which way to go, but by the time you "return" they have disappeared. You were standing next to a rather large mausoleum. You think they must be on the other side but when you get there, you don't see anyone around. A shadow passes between the stones to the right, just as you look, you see another out of your left eye. They feel close.

Eddie shines his torch back the way they came, hoping to spot Aunt Loosa and help her spot them.

"Oh!" cried Alyssa with a jump. "Aunt Loosa, Aunt Loosa, where are you?"

[Papa Gateau]

Oh dear! Aunt Loosa thinks to herself. She moves back to the mausoleum, standing with her back to it so that she can face the shadows.

She calls out sternly, her voice not carrying the fear she feels, brandishing her cane in her hand Whoever or whatever is out there, show yourselves! Show yourselves! You think it funny to frighten a poor old black woman! You should be ashamed! she hopes her voice will carry to her friends.

OOC,Can I determine whether these shadows are real/summoned/illusionary? I'll drop an occult[90] in here [dice]0[/dice]

You turn around and call out into the fog. You see some shadows moving, but nothing that looks like Aunt Loosa. You don't hear any calls back. The fog appears to thicken right before your eyes, and what you could see just a minute before is becoming more and more distant.

Aunt Loosa, the shadows are very much real, they move closer flying in front of your face. Skulls appear where their heads should be, the shadowy hands reaching out for you. Screams echo in your ears as they draw closer and closer.
