The Cafe is right next to the Library. As you were walking towards the Cafe you see Richard going into the Library, you aren't sure if he saw you or not.

As you enter the cafe, it is a small place with 4 to 5 tables in it. There is a couple in here sitting at one table.

A woman with silver hair that appears to be around 50, is standing behind a counter. She glances up as you walk in, then goes back to what she was doing behind the counter.

Warren Kaine:

As I enter I take my hat from my head and nod to the couple, politely, before stepping up to the counter,
"Ma'am. Coffee please and maybe a little information? I'm trying to find a friend of mine out of Boston. Name of Phil (brief description) may be with an older guy. He moved up here a few months back and I kinda lost touch"

While I talk I look around.

As you get closer you notice the lady is wearing a name tag with 'Joyce' on it. She pulls out a cup and pours you some coffee. "Don't think I know anyone by that name. Hope you find your friend. That will be 5 cents."

Warren Kaine:

I pass some coins over the counter, pick up the coffee and blow the steam from it, before taking a sip. Its good coffee just strong enough, I smile,
"So...Joyce...this seems like a quiet town. Anything happen around here of interest"

"Nothing much happens around here. We got that art thing going on down at Bearskin." She responds, "They show up, paint a week or 2 and then leave."

Warren Kaine:

I take another slug from my cup, "Yeah? Paint, paint what?"
Warren thinking:   So this art thing is a regular occurence. Interesting
"These arty folks, do they come far, or are they relatively local? And is this regular, same time same place?" I finish my coffee and push the cup towards Joyce for a refill.

Joyce refills your cup, "They come from all over. I only notice them because they come in with paint on them. It started about a year ago. At first it was just 1 or 2, now there are more than a dozen out there. But go out there in 3-4 weeks it will be a completely different bunch. Poor tippers as well."

Warren Kaine:

I look around, "Sorry...Out where?"

I get the hint about tippers and find some more coins.

"Out at Bearskin Neck. They all congregate out there painting up God knows what. Not a one of them goes to church, bunch of heathens if you ask me." Joyce looks back and forth as if to make sure no one is listening. Then in a whisper, "and some of their paintings are just downright evil I tell you, like a bunch of possessed ... well heathens is what they are."

Warren Kaine:

I join in the conspiratorial whispering, leaning close, "Why do you say their paintings are evil?"
I glance at the time. I know I should be going to find the others, but I'm intrigued.
"The old guy that Phil hangs around with is a bit of a painter, maybe I'll find them there. This 'Bearskin Neck' what is it and where is it?"

Joyce looks around again and at the couple at the table, "have you been into that Art Association, that's where they sell their stuff? Some of it is all cheery and such, but some show devils and other weird things, it makes me cringe." She leans back a bit. "Bearskin Neck is the small strip of land that runs out to Bradley Wharf. You have to go through it to get out on the Wharf. It's right past the square up the road."

Warren Kaine:

I finish the coffee and pass some more coins across the counter, and put a few extra in the small bowl marked 'Tipps'.
I stand and put my hat on, "Thanks Joyce...Oh by the way, great coffee"

Retracing my steps I leave the cafe and head back to the car.
Warren thinking:   So where next the art place, this Bearskin Neck place or back to the hotel and find the others?
I climb back into the car, start the motor and drive slowly up the street, pulling up outside the library where I had seen Richard enter ealier.
