Alternative Beginning Character Concepts.

Re: Alternative Beginning Character Concepts.
All,
I don't know if the rules section emphasisis this, but I feel it is important to know;
Attempts to use a skill or secondary attribute naked or raw (without it having points allocated) is at d4-2, and wild dice d6-2. Of course this is before difficulty modifiers are deployed.
So I cannot over stress the importance of Fighting, from which your parry is derived, and Guts, heavilly used throughout the War of the Dead.

Re: Alternative Beginning Character Concepts.
Ah, my bad. I edited my post. I removed an edge to gain an extra attribute point, but redistributed them a little.
Re: Alternative Beginning Character Concepts.
Mr. Pear
Close. Almost right but not quite,althou gh I see what's happened. In you effort to edit the character and gain the extra attribute point through dropping an edge, you have missed the fact that to raise an Attribute by 1 point costs 2 points.
Attribute Rating
Agility D10 = 4 points d4-d10
Smarts D6 = 1 point d4-d6
Spirit D6 = 1 point
Strength D4 = 0 points
Vigour D6 = 1 point
Total Spent 6 points, should have been 7. To use extra points from edges to raise Attributes cost 2 points per dice level.
You have overspent on skills, but I think I may have found part of the problem. I calculate that you have spent 18 points instead of 15.
I see that you have Repair at d10, but you only have a d6 in smarts so in actuality that skill alone has cost 6 points (1 for d4 + 1 for d6 +2 for d8 + 2 for d10) this was probably a mistake from shifting things around
Dropping the second Edge has regained you 2 points which you have spent to raise an Attribute. Taking your Repair down to d6 sorts the problem.

Re: Alternative Beginning Character Concepts.
Well, yeah, but an edge costs 2 points as well. I have 1 major hindrance and 2 minor ones, giving me 4 points to spend. With those I took 1 edge and 1 attribute point.In you effort to edit the character and gain the extra attribute point through dropping an edge, you have missed the fact that to raise an Attribute by 1 point costs 2 points.
why?Attribute Rating
Agility D10 = 4 points d4-d10
D4->D6 = 1
D6->D8 = 1
D8 ->D10 = 1
1+1+1=3, no?
That's where I was mistaken, apparently. I thought that skills automatically started at D4I see that you have Repair at d10, but you only have a d6 in smarts so in actuality that skill alone has cost 6 points (1 for d4 + 1 for d6 +2 for d8 + 2 for d10) this was probably a mistake from shifting things around

Re: Alternative Beginning Character Concepts.
No sweat. The first time I rolled a character for SW i did the same thing.Mr. Pear wrote:That's where I was mistaken, apparently. I thought that skills automatically started at D4

Re: Alternative Beginning Character Concepts.
So what about the attributes.. How come it costs 4 points to go 3 steps?
Re: Alternative Beginning Character Concepts.
To buy Attributes with the initial 5 points costs 1 point per dice type.Mr. Pear wrote:So what about the attributes.. How come it costs 4 points to go 3 steps?
To buy extra Attribute dice types through spending points from skills or hidrances cost 2 points per dice type.
Example: To buy strength at d6 in initialy costs 1 point (d4 to d6)
To raise Strength through spending skill or hindrance points costs 2 points (Raise from d6 - d8 costs 2 points from d8 - d10 another two points so thats 4 points overall)

Re: Alternative Beginning Character Concepts.
Agility D10 (D4->D10 = 3 points)
Smarts D6 (D4->D6 = 1 point)
Spirit D6 (D4->D6 = 1 point)
Strength D4
Vigour D6 (D4->D6 = 2 points, which I got from hindrances)
I'm sorry but I still can't follow your logic...
