Character portfolios - creation and upkeep

The fate of the Aquitania (1914-1925).
This ocean liner scenario follows a group of upper class travelers who have some time to kill. Maybe too much time.

Character portfolios - creation and upkeep

Post by Dave Syrinx »

As mentioned in the recruitment thread.

Roll thrice for stats and pick the best set. Swap one stat with one corresponding in either of the two discarded sets.

Addendum:
Use three *professions* to describe your character. Check out the Who´s Who to see what I mean.

Name: Henry Boyd
Age: 42
Sex: M
Occupation:Professor University at Liverpool School of Archaeology and Egyptology
Professor, Archeologist, Photographer
Yearly Income:
College, Degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Master of Studies (MSt) of Archeology Oxford
Birthplace: London, 1872
.
Image
.
Appearance & Personality & Background: Henry is a good size man that is very strong. He can often put people off with his imposing physical stature.
This also has the affect of making people severly underestimate his extreme intellect. Henry grew up in London and shot to the top of his class. He graduated secondary school and went on to study at Oxford where he received his BA and MSt in Archeology. Henry also played on the Oxford Footbal team and swam on the swim team.
.
Between his BA degree and going to graduate classes, Henry went to Cairo, Egypt and met Dr. Reisner who was working in the Giza strip. The doctor taught a lot to Henry over the next few years, including a desire to learn the language where you are working, to respect the land and the ancient sites, record your findings with photography and to protect yourself. Dr. Reisner was the pioneer in archeology photography.
Henry learned to shoot a pistol and now always travels with one.
.
In 1900 he went back to Oxford to get his masters. While in the graduate program he worked with Sir Evans in Crete where he made his most famous discoveries.
.
Instead of going on to get his doctorate he instead got a job with the University of Liverpool School of Archaeology and Egyptology.
He was given a grant and spent the majority of his time in the field working in Pompeii near Naples, Italy, and finally in Jerusalem where Henry planned to make his own great discovery instead of working on older previously discovered sites.
.
But Jerusalem turned out to be his worst disaster ever. He was unable to uncover anything of significance and in 1910 the University of Liverpool recalled his grant
and forced him to spend more time teaching in the classroom until he could make a case for spending more money on a new exploration mission.
.
Henry is very out going and generally cheeful. His below average looks he often makes up for with his size, athletic body and intelligence. If he gets into situations where
people don't want to cooperate, he is not against using his size to intimidate people into doing what he wants.
.
Ever since Jerusalem, Henry is constantly 2nd guessing himself and if he isn't sure on something he will usually back down and concede to someone else.
.
Henry has done archeology work in several countries including:
Assisted Sir Arthur Evans in the escavation of the Palace of Knossos on the Island of Crete
Visted Greece and the ruins in Athens while on the escavation
Worked with Dr. Reisner at Giza, near Cairo Egypt
Naples Italy where he worked in the city of Pompeii. He also spent time visiting a lot of Italy and Roman Empire remains.
Jerusalem of the Ottoman Empire

Daedalus Wickliff
Image
Prodigy, Gambler, Heir Apparent

Appearance -

Age: 19
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 185 lb.
Education: College
Occupation: Self

Personality -

Oftentimes charming and can be a bit of a coniver. Seldom acts for others interest, more interested in his own pursuits. Somewhat of a chameleon, one can never know which Daedalus you would meet. Has a soft spot for the "Damsil in distress" and if given the choice between gambling of any kind and doing something else, Gambling wins.

History of the Wickliff Family -

The Wickliff (or Wycliffe, saxon origin) name has a rich history and this family has been part of England for centuries. A village just six miles from Richmond, in Yorkshire, England, was called "Wycliffe", where the Wickliff family name first gained prominence in history. One of the early ancestors, simply named Wycliffe, supposedly translated the Bible in 1338, and one half of the nation before his death are said to have embraced, in a greater or lesser degree, his opinions, which spread with rapidity over Europe. The Wickliff family even predated William the Conqueror, although the family lineage became intertwined after losing the brief military campaign in 1606, joining the two families and thus furthering the Wickliff name and granting access to titles of nobility through marriage. The next four hundred years are filled with turmoil and strife but the family name survived until this very day.

The Wickliff Family Today -

The Wickliff, although minor nobles, are wealthy, and control many different corporations and other interests around the globe. A far cry from the village of Wycliffe, the family has prospered like so many others with similar backgrounds and opportunities, and have become successful at anything they seek to achieve. Young Daedalus was no exception for he was an academic genius, surpassing his peers, and earning many awards for his mental prowess. He flawed, for he oftentimes grew bored with his studies, and went to mischief, and thus was expelled from college, and now has a tutor follow him around while he travels the world in pursuit of his second love, gambling. America had often been depicted as a wild place, full of cut throats and of course, gamblers! His family was disappointed in him for his lack of commitment and discipline in his studies, but they figured he would outgrow this and return home once it was out of his system. Daedalus was also the heir to a great fortune, well once he was a bit more mature and falls in line with his other brothers and sisters.

The plan was for him to become greatly educated then start his career in one of the various family enterprises. He thought this to be worse than death and preceded to formulate his own plans and ideas about his future. When he was expelled for such lurid behavior, acts his family will not permit to be put to record, they decided it were best he took a vacation away from his troubles. He was brought to Liverpool, for his parents secured passage aboard the Aquitania, a new vessel, bound for New York of all places. The maiden voyage for a young man needing a new experience, leaving his troubles behind, he quickly immersed himself with all pertinent information about the ship, including the captain and crew, the designer and builders, and deck plans. His personal belongings were sent ahead, his chaperon, the tutor of his studies, known as Denton, walked with him on board. He soon abandoned his tutor to his own devices and looked for a game of chance and perhaps a pretty girl to talk with for a short time...

Appearance & Personality: Dr. Susan Walsh is a beautiful young woman with shoulder-length blonde hair and striking blue eyes. She is 5' 4" tall and weighs about 115 pounds. Susan likes to have fun and is often lighthearted when she is not working, but when she is she works hard and takes her profession very seriously. She is extremely bright and doesn't talk down to people, treating them as if they were as intelligent as she is. However, this is seldom the case, and she often ends up talking over their heads instead.

Background: Of Welsh descent (hence her surname), Susan was born and raised in Liverpool to an upper class family. Susan was always very smart, excelling at her schoolwork and progressing with incredible speed. While her parents expected her to get married, she wanted to first continue her studies and become a doctor, which she felt would be a worthy application of her talents. She managed to convince her parents to fund her higher education, and in May 1914 she graduated from medical school at a remarkably early age. To celebrate, she is embarking upon a cruise on the Aquitania, where she intends to enjoy herself and spend a lot of time at the pool, as she is an avid swimmer. Susan does want to get married, and not just to satisfy her parents, but she wants a husband who is her intellectual equal, and a man like that would be difficult to find.

Going with the first stat list. I'm presuming these stats don't have to be pressed in order? If so, this is the line:

STR 10, DEX 12, EDU 15+3 is 18, POW 14, CON (swapping 7 with the 11 from stat line 2) 11, APP 12, SIZ 12, INT 14.

Name: Charlotte "Charlie" Walsh
Player: Laraqua
Age: 32 (appears 25)
Sex: Female
Occupation: 'Dilletante' / Gossip Columnist / Private Investigator
Colleges, Degrees: School of Hard Knocks
Birthplace: Melbourne, Australia

I believe that being 10 years older than my EDU requirement means I get a +1 to EDU? Giving me EDU 19? Dangit for packing away my books! Been so long since I made a character. I can't find my core rulebook (it's been packed), only my Investigator's Companion 2 which doesn't do well with occupational skill lists as it too often gives too many or too few. I'm figuring for the occupation Climb, Conceal, Fast Talk, Hide, Jump, Other Language, Photography and Sneak due to her experiences. If I get it wrong, smack my hand and I'll redo it. I don't mind. Honest!

Appearance & Personality: Charlotte Walsh is a pretty and perky woman who appears younger than her years but is still considered to be a faded beauty just reaching the yawning precipice of spinsterhood (mid-twenties and unmarried!). She is 5' 7" tall and weighs about 145 pounds due to a deceptively athletic build and a rather (ahem) buxom stature.

Background: Of Australian descent, Charlotte always went for a more exciting experience and soon latched onto a private detective agency run by her Uncle where she unofficially assisted as a Girl Friday between the ages of 13 and 17. At the age of 17, they soon discovered her skill in getting to hard to reach places and taking photographs with the rather annoying cameras (one of which she got for her birthday) which she used to gather proof of cheating spouses and insurance frauds. She also soon found some skill in getting photographs for various gossipy newspapers - which paid better - though she was no good at writing the columns. Her innocent good looks and seeming sweetness really got her into all the right places, especially since she understood several languages used by some of the more interesting celebrities about the place. Nowadays she has enough money from inheritance to trot about the globe, sticky beaking in places her nose doesn't belong and generally making a friendly nuisance of herself.
