.
After hearing the strange tale, Dr. Chambers closes his eyes. It seems like a long time, and you aren't sure if he fell asleep or not. "Ah yes, I thought something about this case seemed familiar. The Chapel, now I remember. We discovered they were using children from ophanages for sacrifices for some rituals, but we never discovered what for?" The doctor knocked the ashes off his cigar and took another puff. "Never heard of this Corbitt fellow before. As for how could this be him, I've seen stranger. Men who want to prolong their life, make themselves invincible. The best case I've ever seen of that was The Book of Ivon, when the wizard made himself invincible. Harrison, didn't you say you found a copy of that?"
.
He takes a small sip. "Usually a man like Corbitt will have a journal, did you ever find one?".
"As for why this Phil would want the Reverands' body who knows. If what he said about his sister was true, their are ways to trap a mans soul and torture it, even beyond death. I suspect that maybe what is going on. If he was lying, then he could be trying to resurect him or preserve the body, who knows," answering Richard.
.
"But you said he used a drowning spell and his arms became tentacles, that sounds more like a worshiper of Cthulhu. That's what we believed back when we blew up the chapel. But this Corbitt fellow, Book of Ivon, the poem of the King in Yellow, the One who cannot be names, this all points to Hastur." The doctor finishes and looks around at the group. "This is a most interesting strange case."

Harrison nods.

"I am still translating it, but I already worked through a fair bit of it. There was a book down there too, I'm pretty sure our fair damsel secured it. At least, I hope she did."

Jordie is sitting there, a dusty book in her hands, but everytime she moves, more of the crumpled pages fall out. She hasn't said much since leaving the house.

"A shame you didn't remember the Chapel before," says Charles, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. "And who is Hastur?"

"Calm down young man, I did not leave out anything. I know of a great many things, of which none have to deal with this Mr. Corbitt. For me to list them all would be nigh impossible in the time frame we had. Yes I knew of the Chapel, but I had no idea the Chapel and the house on Norman street were even vaguely connected. Just being in the general neighborhood does not a connection make, or should be shake down every business in that block as well?" Dr. Chambers takes a big puff on his cigar, "I want this mystery solved as much as you."
.
"As for Hastur, he is the one they call 'He Who is not to be Named'. Folklore says just saying his name can bring evil and doom to you. He supposedly lives on a planet called Carcosa, and his herald is the King in Yellow. So from what you told me, it looks like Corbitt is trying to summon the King in Yellow, who can then summon the big guy. Which could be a very, very bad thing." The doctor finishes his whiskey and sets down the glass.
.
"I would imagine this dagger is key somehow. What more can you tell me of that?"

Harrison takes his drink to one of the seats, lights a smoke and exhales happily.

"Carcosa? Where is it? And more specifically, how do we stop Corbitt from getting to this King in Yellow? Little we did seemed to slow him down."

The doctor smirkes, "Hell if I know. From what I've read, its another planet or dimension, who knows. I would think by the description of this dagger you've given, he will need it. As long as we have it, I think we are safe from him performing any ritual to summon the King in Yellow. But it also means, if he didn't die in the fire, and if what you are saying about the gun shots is true, we will see Mr. Corbitt again. He will be coming after the dagger. Probably sooner rather than later. The Book of Ivon, you mentioned the wizard there was unkillable in it, right?"

Harrison nods.

"Yes, it details the slow erosion of his mind resulting from it. I tried one of the incantations in the book, one that Eibon used to battle a dread beast, but it didn't work on Corbitt."

Harrison pauses to think for a moment that had he heard someone say what he just said in earnest not a few days ago, he'd have doubted his faculties.

"Well you said the Pognus was used along with the virgin sacrifices, I am thinking he used the children he was kidnapping for this." Dr. Chambers shutters for a minute. "So the dagger is linked to him. Yes, I do believe he will come to claim it and if we cannot figure out how to stop him very soon, I do not want to imagine the terror he will bring to Boston."
.

Harrison frowns deeply, stands from his seat and paces about for a few moments.

"Is there a place I can work in quiet here? Your office perhaps? I seem to recall that Eibon was working on a way to stop his immortality, but I didn't pay any specific attention to it at the time."

The doctor says, "Of course." He leads to a panel on the lounge and presses on a panel. A small panel slides to the side and you see a room, about 8x8. It has a table and small chair. "You can work in here. Let me know if you need anything."

As you open the old book, you can see it has not aged well. Many of the pages appear to be cracking and crumbling.
As you turn the 1st page it appears to be an astrology chart.

Scott detached himself from a wall against which he has been leaning as he listened to the conversation.
"Excuse me Sir. But if this knife, the pognus or whatever you called it, is so vital to this Hastur character, isn't there some way we can hide it somewhere safe where he wont find it?"

Scott wasn't sure he was comfortable with all this talk of child sacrifice , let alone the idea that people could come back from the dead.

He had seen things tonight that went far beyond a simple desire to experience a haunted house, and wasn't too keen to experience any more.

"I understand the thought. But if the 2 are connected like I think they are, I doubt there is a place we can hide it, that he will not eventually find it. My experience has taught me, that evil things do not like to stay buried forever." He put out his cigar and got out a pipe to start packing it with tobacco.
"And even if we can hide the dagger, who will stop Corbitt when he gets out of the inferno basement and starts rampaging though town to find the dagger. From my recollection of this shield spell written about in the book, the man lived forever. So hundreds of years after we have turned to dust, Corbitt would still be walking the Earth in search for the dagger and another alignment of the stars in which to summon the King in Yellow. No, we must stop him now."
Dr. Chambers cups his hand over his pipe and lights it. The sweet fragrance from the pipe masking the harsher smell of the cigar smoke in the room.

Scott peers over Jordie's shoulder at the mouldering page from the book, he shrugs, "Looks like some kind of chart" he says stating the obvious, "But looking at the state of the paper, very old".

"Anyone understand this astrology stuff?"

To Richard he says, "You can sleep? With that thing from the basement probably out there looking for us I aint sure I'll ever sleep again". Nervousness makes him want to check his pistol again as if seeking comfort from its feel, even though he saw his bullets hit the thing and do no damage at all.

He shudders as a vision of the guy called Mike being inviscerated by the things claws springs unbidden to his mind.

Dr. Chambers sets up a camera and begins to photograph each of the crumbling pages to preserve what is on them. Each page has a date on it, going back several decades. "He appears to be charting stars through these astrology charts." As you reach the end of the book the final date you notice the date 'March 25, 1921'. "Well it appears our friend would have awoken whether you were there or not. But now we have the Pognus of Hastur and he does not."
.
Ms. Patton pokes her head into the room again, "I just heard they found some bodies down in the basement and are requesting an ambulance over the police radio."
.
And finally the door to the anti-chamber opens, Harrison is standing there, the smoke and whiskey stain him, a grin from ear to ear, and for just a second he almost looks like a younger version of Dr. Chambers. "I've got it," he says.
.
And as the excitement in his voice fades away the large clock in the lounge begins its long solemn chimes. As each one rings out you can't help but be drawn to the intricate craftsmanship you can see through the class enclosure. On the 12th tone, you realize it is midnight and the next day.

"Tonight is March 25th Richard," her voice deeply concerned, the large clock in the room held Jordie's attention as she watched the slow ominous oscillating countdown to midnight. "I don't think we'll be catching any sleep tonight boys, not with the police hunting us and that monster running loose. Looks like our work is cut out for us."

"I have a way to stop him."

Harrison moves with an alacrity unusual for the hour and the effort he just made to the smoke drawer.

"I will need the pognus, though. And a gallon or so of paint."

He takes another cigarette from the tray and just as he is about to light it, he puts it down on the table again, looking at it with disdain.

"A lot of salt, rosemary and thyme."

He grins as he looks around.

"Oh yeah, I'll need you guys to protect me from our friend Corbitt for about a minute."

"I'm pretty sure we have those here at the museum." Dr. Chambers said, "Ms. Patton, come in here." She pops her head in the door with a radio at her ear, and a medical kit in her hand. "Yes Sir," she replies.
.
"Get the team what they need. Any news?" he replies.
.
"Seems there is some trouble, the police are calling for reinforcements. I'll help Harrison get what he needs. If the rest of you are going back, get yourselves patched up first." Ms. Patton says.

OOC:   For healing, each player may attempt to heal each wound a person has taken until someone is successful on that wound. You will get back 1d3 hit points back per wound. (up to how much that wound took.)
Example, I took 1 wound for 5 points and another for 2. I try 1st aid on myself and am successful on the 1st wound and roll a 2. So I'm now down 5 points. (3 from the first and 2 from the second). I fail my 2nd try. So my buddy tries 1st aid on my 2nd wound and is successful. He rolls a 3 on the d3, but I can only heal back 2. So I'm now down only 3 points from the 1st wound. The 2nd wound is completely healed. It will take a week to get back anymore on the 1st wound.
Let me know if you have any questions.

While everyone is getting ready, Harrison opens the paint can. He starts muttering a tuneless verse under his breath as he mixes the ingredients together. After about five minutes, he replaces the lid and looks up at Charles.

"That pognus is the only thing that can stop him, I need it for the ritual, otherwise it won't work. So yes, it's a plan. It'll be good if you guys manage to occupy Corbitt long enough for me to finish the incantations. If you don't, I don't think we'll need to worry much about whether it was good or bad plan."

At Harrison's words Scott snorts and says quietly, half to himself, "Well lets hope we can occupy him longer than Michael did and with less drastic results"

Part of him, the sensible part, considers that this might be a good time to leave and return to his normal life, but a strange facsination held him, wanted to be there at the end.

"Patching up I can do, resurecting is a medical skill I haven't developed yet" Scott laughs, nervously.
