OOC,What did I learn from my critical success on the Library Use roll trying to trace the shell company?

Jacob will try to find a laboratory for Greg analysis using his connections in work.

Greg will try to look up folklore regarding magical tattoos - and anything that connects that with Albanians. If time permits, he will also look up zombie lore regarding Albanian culture. He'd like to figure out if there is some sort of method they use to animate their dead, and more specifically, if there's a way to counter it.

In the morning, Liz tries to find out whatever she can online about Daniel Gaiman and Jane Smith.

OOC: Liz,Yeah thats pretty much it. At this point in time Liz has found at a great deal in a very short period of time, the financial dealings Liz has uncovered are clearly structured to obfuscate and decieve although Liz can't actually find anything illegal in what has been done - the avoidance of a couple of thousand pounds on the sale of the house perhaps. In addition at this point in time there is no online registry of company information for the Isle of Man, All office of the Companies Registry in Douglas (IoM) These documents will tell you a great deal about who owns what in those two companies. However, understanding these documents would require a [b]Law[/b] and or [b]Accounting[/b] success. I will add the registered address for both companies seems to be the same and looks to be an address shared by a number of other companies.

Liz has no problem obtaining addresses and subsequently phone numbers for both Daniel Gaiman and Jane Smith. They have a office address in Reading which is about 40 minutes drive from London.

Jacob will share with Greg the information about the laboratory. Greg can send the relevant tissues for inspection and he will have the results later.

In addition, Jacob will search for the name Idriz Patrella for any criminal records. He will asks Liz to provide him information she found so he will be able to consult the relevant records.

OK, a persons criminal record isn't typically available to a solicitor except when its part of a case and even then not always. Jacob's going to have to talk to his friendly Private Eye and see if he can drag anything up. However, note Liz has already trawled for references to the name and found nothing which would likely mean he's not been to court for anything serious if at all.

Maybe contacting the directors of Centrepoint Limited by phone asking for the deal records, if they are open to public or for more information about the two companies in the Isle of Man.
What for these two companies and the buildings in London. Maybe these companies are some kind of fraud to money laundering.
Jacob ponder about the possibility.

In addition, Jacob will try to find out who are Redrupp and Vosper.

Jacob knows very well who Reddrup and Vosper are - they are a well respected solicitors office based in the City (London's financial centre) dealing in company and commercial law, as well as advising high net worth individuals on their personal and financial affairs. They are several leagues above the successful legal practice Jacob works for.

OOC: Gents an ommission on my behalf which Jacob would have noticed when he picked them up but wrapped up in the same piece of leather as the golden tools which Jacob found, was a thin hand crafted leather bound tome.

Greg does what he can to expedite the tissue to the laboratory for testing and eagerly awaits the results.

Jacob sends SMS to his colleagues that Reddrup and Vosper are well respected solicitors above his league. He suggests calling Centrepoint Limited to ask about the ‘isle of the man’ companies. He will do this in the morning.

For now, he takes twenty minutes break for a prayer and then sits at his desk, opening the leather bound tome.
What is the title, the written language? He flips the pages quickly - maybe there are notes inside, a bookmark or hand written scribbles on the edges.

Jacob gave the jewelry to Clay.

Liz emails the information she's found out to the others and suggests that Jacob take a look at the documents she has found about Centrepoint Limited; as a lawyer, he'd know more about these things. She also asks whether they should go to Reading and pay a visit in person at some point during the day, though telephone contact initially might be preferable.

Liz rings Centrepoint which is apparently an Estate Agents/Property management Company and arranges a meeting later that day under the pretext of looking for a property.

Jacob's Private eye rings back to confirm that there is no record for Idriz Patrella, he adds that if Jacob wants to do any further work off the books then it will have to be cash up front.

Jacob says to the private eye, hangs down the call, takes a sip from his coffee and returns to the tome.

Jacob puts the tome aside saying another prayer, hoping the disturbing images he have seen in it will fade with a strong prayer.
He then puts his thought to rest as he goes to bed. Before going back to sleep he send SMS to the others indicating that he found something very disturbing. They are all welcome to his place for a quick kosher breakfast, then he will reveal the book to them.

Liz arrives at Jacob's place for breakfast. "Good morning," she says. "I've set up an appointment with Centrepoint Limited for later today. It might look funny if you came with, considering your face, but maybe Greg can go with me. I'm curious as to what you can make of this tangle of shell companies. Since you're a lawyer, you'll prolly have more insights than I do."

Greg, the book over there contains many images, look like a catalog of tattoos but not ordinary ones, they are very disturbing and I must say that there is something freakish in there ... magical tattoos ?

Greg looked at Jacob and did a silent check-up on the man's state of mind. Seemed he was shaken up about something. Well, considering what they went through yesterday, it was no big wonder.

He took some bites of his toast and drank it down with some orange juice, and said, "The skin tissue we found yesterday was from an Albanian most likely... but the person from whom it came was a man."

"Cheers," says Liz, sitting down to look through the book as she eats breakfast. While the images are disturbing, they are less so than the photos she saw of the tattoos on Elira. What she sees really speaks to her mind.

OOC: Jacob,LIz's documents don't actually tell you anything more than you've already guessed for yourself, what you need to see to start unravelling this would be the company papers held on the Isle of Man, where the two companies are registered. Centrepoint has no connection to Kinglee Limited or Treeview Properties appart from doing business with them.

Like I thought. These are shell companies, who know if they exist at all. My best guess is that they are for money laundering.

Liz sets the book aside. "Well, this doesn't look like it'll be of aid," she says. "Were you able to make any headway with that ledger, Jacob? Do you work with anyone who might be able to make sense of it?"

If we want to reveal things further I’ll have to work on the company documents. Any one for a trip to the Isle of the Man ... I’ve never been there.

"That's a thought," says Liz. "When we're in Reading, maybe we can inquire about properties in the Isle of Man. That might give us some leads should we go there later. I've never been either, but it should be interesting, as long as we have time to go there. Remember those plane tickets. There were six of them. One was prolly for Elira, which leaves five others. What was the date and time of the flight to Malta, and what were the names on the tickets? They can just buy new tickets and split if we take too long. They may even decide to leave sooner if we've spooked them."

Plane Tickets,My mistake there are only five tickets. The flight is in about six weeks time. They are tickets for - Idriz Patrella, Veton Patrella, Indrit Patrella, Afrodita Patrella and Sindi Pula

Reading is a forty minute drive from North London, the offices of Centrepoint Limited is near the center of town, the offices are busy with six estate agents present - the desks of Daniel Gaiman and Jane Smith are slightly larger and more prominent than their staff. Smith is a woman in her 50's of average looks, the yellow tinge to her fingers clearly indicate she is a heavy smoker. Gaiman is younger in his thirties extremely well dressed and well presented.

Reading,As this seemed the concencus for next stop I thought I'd move matters along a bit - feel free to back track slightly if you have anything to add before you headed off to Reading.

Liz smiles at Daniel Gaiman. "Hello," she says. "You wouldn't happen to be related to Neil Gaiman by any chance, would you?"

Daniel looks up from his computer "If we are then I'm afraid its very murky and distant second cousins twice removed I'm afraid. Sorry, I didn't catch your name Miss..."

Seating arrangements,NB Gaiman and Smith's desks occupy the same part of the office, so a conversation at one desk will almost certainly be heard by those at the other.

Jacob sits with a smile.
I'm here for a past deal you had in London were you sold several properties to Kinglee Limited and Treeview Properties. These companies are registered in the Isle of the Man but my colleagues at the firm are failing to find information about these places. Since you did business with them I will be happy for your cooperation.

Jacob give Mrs. Smith the information about the properties that were sold in London and tries to see her reaction about his requests.

Paperwork,The only papers Jacob has are bits and pieces Liz printed off the internet its hardly very official looking.

Jane looks at the papers Jacob hands her. "Not to put to fine a point on it Mr Greenberg, but I'm afraid you haven't told me who you work for, or why I should give you information about our clients. All I am prepared to say at this point is any business dealing we have are entirely legitimate and above board. I'd also suggest that if a company is registered in the Isle of Man its because they don't want people like yourselves snooping into their business."

Jacob is not that surprised by the calm attack Mrs. Smith made on him. As a solicitor he is used to such things.

Daniel shakes Liz's (Chloe's) hand while keeping one eye on the developing argument between Jane and Jacob. "She deals with solicitors all day every day, your boss isnt going to get very far trying to bully her, especially when he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

OOC: Reactions,Daniel seems bemused, Jane seems pissed off. Jacob hasn't mentioned any details yet though.

Liz gives Daniel a conspiratorial smile. "I have to deal with him all the time," she says. "He's not really as bad as all that, though. He's a decent chap, underneath. He just thinks he can always get his own way. Excuse me a moment." She goes up to Jacob. "Pardon me, sir, but perhaps a different tack is in order. Remember, these people are not the subjects of the case, and I doubt they're aware of everything their clients do. They might be more willing to help if you politely explain the import."

Jacob rpelies as he can see he failed to intimidate her. So he tries the direct way.
I suspect the companies your sold the properties to are involved with buyers that are related to the world of crime. we cannot find any records of these compnaies and suspect they are involved with moeny laundering and Albanian gangs.

Jacob's efforts to intimidate Smith fall on death ears infact as he goes on she clearly gets angrier and angrier.

"OK Mrs. Smith, we shall have it your way..." [Jacob doesn't actually manage to get another word in/]

"My way? My way Mr Greenberg, is to protect my client's privacy. You can't threaten my business reputation and try and bully me into giving you private information, simply on some suspicion. Now get out, or do I have to call the police?" Mrs Smith picks up the phone her hand hovering over the button.

Failed Persuade,I did warn you that this would be the result of a failed attempt at trying to intimidate her.

Daniel leans over towards Chloe/Liz "I told you didn't I. Look whatever your boss might think, we are a legitimate business, we manage rentals and sell properties for our clients. Just like any other estate agent" (estate agent - realtor)

"I know," says Liz. "He just gets like this sometimes, especially when he's passionate about something. If only he'd just explained that an abused child's life was at stake..."

Daniel shrugs "In all honesty I doubt it would make much difference, we sell houses for people, occassionally we act as peoples agents at auction. But I can tell you this, Jane has two girls of her own and if she thought there was anything dodgy going on with a client she wouldn't hesitate to call the police. But the fact is whatever your boss might think we don't get involved everything is legal and above board, we're profitable we don't need to get involved with anything dodgy."

Jacob stands with pride and goes out without saying a word. He will leave Liz there to see if she can play the good cop for now.

*Well I tried.

"I'm sure you wouldn't be aware if your clients were up to something," says Liz. "but you might have information that could be of help without realising it. We have reason to believe that some of your clients are members of an Albanian organised crime outfit engaged in human trafficking, among other things. There's a girl named Elira Nesimi that they've kidnapped, tattooed, and done God knows what else to. She managed to get away from them at Heathrow and was placed with a foster family, the Tolkas. However, the house was burned down - it looks like arson. The parents were killed, and Elira is missing. We think they've managed to get their hands on her again. Can we exchange contact information? That way, if you think of anything you'd like to tell us, or if we learn anything new, we can pass it on."

Daniel makes a face at Liz as though he's thinking really hard. "Well none of those names ring a bell." He reaches across to the paperwork Jacob dropped on smith's desk and flicks through it. "Look, I can tell you that we bought these properties as an agent for the landlord at auction and charged our normal commission and they were or are rented or leased, I not sure which as we don't manage them. I suspect the companies are tax avoidance vehicles, but there isn't anything illegal about that, although it really muddies the waters as to who actually owns them. Could be the guy is leasing the houses to himself to live in maybe?"

At the desk Jane Smith coughts and makes a pointed raised eyebrows as if to say what do you think you're doing. Daniel just smiles "She asked nicer...got anything to add." he hands the papers back over

Smith takes the papers back and looks through them herself "Redrupp and Vosper were the client, which means they were acting on behalf of someone else...Oh yeah probably whoever owns these other companies, but I have no idea who they really are...and you absoluetly heard none of that here."

"Thank you very much," says Liz with a smile. "The owner of at least one of the properties is Idriz Patrella, and there are other members of that family that have come up in our investigations: Veton, Indrit, and Afrodita, as well as someone named Sindi Pula. I'm not certain, but that might be a false name they've given to Elira." She gives Daniel her mobile number. "Feel free to call if you think of anything else."

Jacob goes out past Greg cursing words in Hebrew. All Greg understand is the name Mrs. Smith.

Greg decided to do more research in the library on occult matters of the walking dead, in the event that they come across more of them like the old woman the day prior. He also looked in today's newspaper to see if there was any mention of trouble around that tatoo parlor.

Greg finds a front page article in a local newspaper about last nights events - It tells how an old woman died during a bungled burgalry. Reading between the lines it seems the police are treating the death as though the woman died of a heart attack or stroke as a result of the burgalry.

Research: The Walking dead,[b]Library Use[/b] roll and you need to be a bit more specific about what you are looking for.

Greg was a little distraught at the news. He hoped they would autopsy the woman, and they'd be sure to find the woman died hours before the 'botched burglary'. But there was no time to worry about that now.

In the library, he focused on Albanian folklore regarding the reanimation of dead people and sought out anything that might give a clue as to how to put the corpses at rest or at the very least keep them at bay.

Everyone recieves an SMS from Clay on the disposable phones to say he's got everything he can and should they meet back at Jacob's?

"That's fine with me," Liz says to Jacob, "but it's your place, so it's up to you."

Jacob nods yes

Clay turns up that evening with a black sports bag slung over his shoulder. He looks a bit the worse for lack of sleep, but he has a smile on his face.

"I think I got everyone what they wanted" he says. "But its all kind of leased, so if you don't like it tell me, but I can't promise to get you anything better or at all" he then plonks the sports bag onto Jacob's kitchen table and starts rooting around inside.

HClay pulls out a something wrapped in an old towel "For Greg a real American icon a colt .45" He pulls out a rather battered looking automatic pistol along with a magazine and a small tupperware box with bullets (Its a Colt M1911)

"For Liz." Clay then pulls what looks to be a pump action shotgun from the bag. The shotgun looks pretty new but its clearly been modified, someone has taken a saw to both the barrel and the stock shortening them quite drastically. In addition a hole has been drilled through what is left of the stock and a piece of cord has been looped through the hole. The gun is so short Liz could carry it concealed under a long jacket hands free. Clay also pulls out a shopping bag with an assortment of cartridges.

"...and finnally Jacob" Clay pulls out a tightly wrapped plastic and bubble wrap package to reveal a silencer, a pile of ammunition and a small compact pistol "Its a Baikal mate, 9mm, really popular piece for yer up and coming criminal"

"Wicked," says Liz, fondling the little shotgun. "Now I'm a proper gangster."

And I can say goodbye to my license.
Jacob replies as he stars at the silencer

Clay drops into one of the kitchen chairs where he carefully unwraps another tightly wrapped plastic and bubble wrap package to reveal another Baikal. "I guess the next question is what are we going to do next"

"We need to make our final preparations to rescue Elira," says Liz. "Perhaps if we could get ahold of floor plans for that house where they've got her, the place those chaps went from the tattoo shop. I could try my hand at some more hacking. We might also want to follow up on those properties in the Isle of Man, but that's a lengthy trip. None of that stuff would be online."

Liz shows the floor plans she found to the others. "They were available to the public, no hacking required," she says. "It looks like there are a few ways in. I'd avoid the front door, as that's more likely to be guarded and more secure. The door to the dining room might be the best point of entry, as there prolly won't be anyone in there except at mealtimes. If we go in late at night, that's unlikely. Even someone wanting a midnight snack would just go to the kitchen. Elira's most likely kept in one of the bedrooms; my guess is the smallest one."

Greg fools around with the .45 like a little boy playing with his father's hidden pistol. His eyes are wide and he's obviously never handled one before. "What does this button do?" he asks pushing a button on the handle which allowed the clip to fall clattering to the floor. "Oh.... that." He saw a switch on the side and moved it back and forth. "Does red or white mean the safety is on?" he asked jumping to an assumption of the purpose behind the switch. "I've seen this on TV before. You're supposed to pull back here..." he stated putting his hand on the top of the gun and pulling back, but it didn't go anywhere. "Crap... um..." he continued to flip the gun over in his hand to look at both sides while he scratched his head. "Being from America, you'd think I'd know how to use this thing, huh?"

When Liz brought out the plans, Greg was greatful for the change of subject. He picked up the clip from the ground and set it on the table with the .45 as he looked at the plans. "Smallest is in front, looking out to the street. My guess is she'd be in that back room by the bathroom. If I was keeping a hostage, I wouldn't want her to be able to signal passers-by."

As Clay watches Greg fiddle with the .45 a look of concern passes across his face. "If you like there are a couple of places down by the coast where we could go fire a few shots and familiarise ourselves with the kit."

"Sounds like a brilliant idea," says Liz. "I've never fired a gun in my life, much less held one. I could use the practice."

Jacob takes the firearm and the silencer and pocket it without saying nothing.

Everything is quiet in the car as Clay drives back to Jacob's house. Clay coughs "Um, Alright well you're all tooled up like a bunch of East End villains but what next?"

"When it gets dark tonight, we can stake out the house," says Liz. "I can scan for any CCTV cameras that are looking at it and, if there are any, pull the same trick I used at the tattooist's. We can also root through their trash and see what turns up, hopefully evidence that there's a girl being kept in the house. Once we know she's there, then we'll have to sneak in and get her out. We'll need another car that can't be traced, of course."

Clay clears his throat Well, I didn't notice any CCTV cameras while I was there and I was very careful scoping out the area befor I snuck into the garden. But there are neighbourhood watch signs everywhere and people were walking dogs pretty much up until last thing.

I can get us another car but I'll need some more cash from somewhere, at least a couple of hundred quid.

"Jacob and I are sure to be recognized by the old man ... if he's there. So we need to lay low while the sun is up, that's for sure," Greg says looking to the others. "I'd like to get a fire extinguisher as well, while we have some time. They're sure to try to use fire on us sometime. Might as well be prepared. Maybe some aloe too."

His eyes lit up, "Wait a second... that's a good point. We might as well try to be as non-flammable as possible. Maybe some firemen jackets and the like... what do you think?"

"Oh, yes, good idea!" says Liz. "I just don't know how we're going to pay for it all."

Greg says, "I've got a pretty decent credit card limit... I'm just not sure where one would go to shop for firemen jackets."

Clay warming to the subject thinks for a moment, I reckon we can find some of that sort of stuff at a builders merchants. Dad used to work on the roads and he had a really thick jacket for keeping the hot tar and stuff off him. I'm pretty sure dad just went out and bought one, didn't have to go anywhere special for it. Something like that isn't quite going to be upto the standard of a fireman's uniform, but I bet it would do OK. Probably get some decent little hand held fire extinguishers from a place like that as well. If we're going to go in we should probably thing about how we're going to do that as well.

"We should try to remain undetected as long as we can," says Liz. "Wait till the lights are all off and everyone's gone to sleep, then slip in the back and sneak upstairs. Check the smaller bedrooms first and try to find Elira."

"Lights might be a problem" says Clay "I think they have those motion sensor type ones, you know the ones which flick on when the cat walks up the path." Clay thinks for a moment "I reckon if we come at the house from next door we might be out of sight of those, and we could snip them maybe?"

"That's a thought," says Liz. "Or, if they're computerised I may be able to hack into and disable them."

Say, what about the other houses. The two companies from the Isle of Man bought other houses as well, what are the chances that one of the other houses hold the girl.
Jacob says, clearly he is disturbed from going to this place again.
At least we know that the police found a dead woman in there, meaning the zombie hag is not there.

Greg said, "We got that silencer... I don't know how good a shot you are with it, but perhaps you could take the lights out before we move in? Or, on the other hand, we might be able to cut power from the house completely. We'll have flashlights at the ready, they'll be blinded in darkness - at least until they start to set us on fire. What do you think?"

Jacob says
It will be my first time holding such a weapon ... so, I'm not that good. I've seen these pieces only in nylon bags as evidence in court.

"If we cut the power, they'll know something's up," says Liz. "Plus, if we light our torches in the darkness, that'll just tell them where to shoot. I still have the bear spray, too, which won't make as much noise as the shotgun if we're trying to be stealthy."

Clay looks at Liz "I wasn't suggesting cutting the power to the house, just the security lights they typically have a power cable you can snip you just have to approach from an angle is all."

"No, it was Greg who suggested that," says Liz. "Cutting the power cable to the security lights could work."

Clay grins, embarrassed at his gaf. "Ooops sorry Liz I was concentrating on the road. So I guess we need to decide are we going to take a shufty around the house again, go through their bins and the like, see if we can get proof the girl is in there, then go in another night....or are we just going to go in regardless? I mean, I think we can agree that guy is involved in some weird shit somehow."

Greg shrugged, "If she's in there, we need to rescue her as soon as possible. If we go in, manage to take them guys out, and then find out she's not in there... well, then we're fugitives running from the law. I can see the need for being sure that she's in there first before we do anything drastic." He looked to the others and said, "While you are clipping wires, make sure you get their phone line so they can't call for backup."

"I agree," says Liz. "If she's in there, we go in and get her tonight. Otherwise, there's no rush and we can take our time. Cutting the phone line won't stop them calling for help if they have mobiles, but it might be worth trying. Of course, the help they're liable to call prolly won't be the coppers. Oh, and we'll all need gloves. No sense leaving fingerprints around. If we're going to do something wrong, we better do it right."

Greg smiled, "I have some rubber gloves back at the hotel. Plenty to go around."

I watched this program on the history channel about these terrorists in northern ireland, they always used to wear these decorator's overalls and when they'd done a job, they'd just take em off and burn them. We could do that and it'd stop CSI catching us. Says Clay warming to the subject.

Greg chuckled, "A week ago, I'd never dreamed I'd be sitting around with a group of people such as yourselves debating how to be a master criminal and possible mass-murderer." His smile faltered suddenly as he threw the door open and vomitted out to the street.

"We're not going to murder anyone," says Liz. "If we have to kill these chaps, it'll be self defense. Of course, the fuzz might not see things that way, so we shan't be telling them. I really like the idea of those overalls."

Clay pulls over at a DIY store and returns momentarily with gloves and overalls, he then drives everyone back to Jacob's house befor leaving in search of a car. "Don't worry about the cash, I know you guys are pretty tapped what with the guns and everything, so I'll see what I can do."

"Cheers!" Liz says to Clay. She nods when Jacob speaks. "I never imagined I'd be a criminal either. I've always tried to keep my nose clean. But there's what's legal, and there's what's right. I heard a legal term once, 'force majeure,' that seems to apply here, but you'd know better than I would if it's a valid defense if we're nicked."

Clay returns later that night, he says he has aquired a transit van which he has parked well away from Jacob's house in case it attracts any attention.

"OK, so does anyone need to do anything before we do this thing, or can we go drive over and take a look at this house?

Greg shook his head and checked his weapon to make sure it was loaded and ready to go (still in safe though).

"Ready as I'll ever be," says Liz. She is wearing the overalls with a long coat on top of them, beneath which she has the little shotgun concealed on its sling as well as the bag containing the bear spray. She also has on the gloves.
