CH1-2 - Heathrow - Interviews - Liz only

Post by ghill »

The police constable ticks Liz's name off his list and leads her over to a trio of meeting rooms which have been turned into makeshift interview suites, opening the door to the first room he seats her at a small table, behind the table sit two detectives along with audio and video equipment.

The detectives switch the recording equipment on, and then introduce themselves as Detectives White and Allen, stating the date and time. They then ask Liz to identify herself for the interview tape

Without looking up from a sheaf of papers on the table infront of him the man who introduced himself as Detective White starts talking "Miss Penhaligon, you understand you have have been arrested on suspicion of activities preparatory to a terrorist act; namely the smuggling a young girl onto an airplane. He goes onto explain Liz her rights, emphasising that if she remain silent, then a jury will be informed of this fact if the matter goes to court.

Finally, he looks up talk us through your day, up to the point where you met the girl at the airport please.
OOC: Liz,I have perhaps rushed through this a bit so feel free to have Liz interject if you wish.

"I'm Elizabeth Penhaligon," says Liz when the detectives ask her to identify herself. When they tell her she has been arrested, she speaks up again. "Nobody placed me under arrest. The constables who brought me here said they wanted me to help with their enquiries, so here I am. I haven't done a bloody thing. It was the Border Control Officer that they arrested."

"I was on hols in Paris," says Liz when asked to describe her day. "My return flight took off very early in the morning. I got back to Heathrow and claimed my luggage, and I was going to take the Tube into London to see my mum and pop. I was really exhausted and got a bit lost, and I ended up in the Departures section by accident. I sat down at Costa Coffee and bought a cup of tea, and at the same time I used my laptop to go online and update my status. Then I felt this tug on my sleeve. It was around a quarter to nine. I looked over, and that's when I saw the girl."

Detective White looks somewhat surprised when Liz says she hasn't been arrested, he leans over and formally switches off the tape and asks Liz if she'd just wait one moment. He then leaves the room returning a few minutes later, with the constable she spoke with originally. The constable looks at Liz with a sort of resigned expression on his face "Miss Penhaligon, I'm arresting you on suspicion of activities preparatory to a terrorist act; namely the smuggling of the young girl onto the airplane" he then goes on to read Liz her rights.

Detective White sits down again with a rather smug smile on his face. "Formalities really Miss Penhaligon, normally I wouldn't bother but the fact the girl has this" Detective white Takes out Liz's passport from where its been hidden under some of his papers "as well as CCTV footage seems to imply you were rather more involved with the girl. Would you care to see the CCTV footage. Detective White doesn't wait for Liz to answer but switches on the video.

The video shows Liz sat at the table in the Costa's laptop open in front of her. The girl walks up and tugs at Liz's sleeve, when she turns to look at the girl the screen momentarily goes black. It then shows the girl talking to Liz, Liz nodding her head and bending down to her bags, the girl kneeling beside her. Both Liz and the girl then stand up and walk out of camera (leaving Liz's laptop and bags at the table. The CCTV then changes showing Liz and the girl walking up to the passport desk where the girl talks to the man at the desk the screen goes black momentarily again and then the girl looks around for a moment before turns on her heel and walking through towards the security checking. Liz appears to stand still for a couple of minutes before rubbing her eyes just as the police arrive on the scene walking off screen.

Liz is too startled by what she sees to notice many details. "Why are bits missing from the video?" she asks, finding it hard to think, though she does realize that the parts where it went black were at the same time that the girl used her hypnotic ability, first on her and later on the Border Security officer. In spite of the weirdness, she remains very calm. "Look, I've cooperated fully with you. I've done everything I was told and answered your questions. Arresting me might be a formality to you, but it isn't to me. Since you have done, I now have the right to have a solicitor present during questioning. While we're being formal, I am formally requesting one now."

Both Detectives clearly look upset at Liz's response. Detective White again halts the interview. "I'll go and get a constable to escort her back" he then stomps out of the room.

Detective Allen smiles regretfully and then shuffles the papers in front of him. "Its a pity really, arresting you is entirely a formality to stop us getting our arses sued off. Welcome to 21st Century policing. Allen gives another weak smile. Now personally, I tend to think people who ask for solicitors have something to hide and I don't think you do, do you Liz, not really. As far as I can see, the worst thing people could say of you, was that you were a bit gullible and let some gypsy girl nick your passport. Now if you get a solicitor in here, he's not going to let you tell us anything and we need as much information as possible about this case. Because the people who did this, they'll need solicitors, f*ck me will they need solicitors. Allen pulls a set of large size photos and fans them over the table.

The photos show the young girl stood against a height chart holding a white paper smock to her chest, she is covered head to toe in scars, tattoos and burns. Other photos show the scars in detail, with rules held up for scale. The burn scars meld into one, forming a complex spiralling pattern; tattoos pick out highlights and fill the spirals with complex glyphs and runes. Examining the photo's closely show that they were created over an extended period of time; some are older and faded, some are still fresh and still oozing, layered over older scars.
OOC:,Can I have: SAN LOSS: [0/1d3] for viewing the extent of the girls scarring ART IDEA OCCULT Alternatively Liz can look straight ahead and ignore the detective until her escort arrives.

Liz takes a deep breath when she sees the photos, but she maintains a level head. The tattoos and patterns mean little to her, but something about the glyphs and runes looks familiar. She looks up at the detective. "No, Detective Allen," she says, "I don't have anything to hide. I came here to help, of my own free will. Nobody needed to threaten or arrest me to do it. I would have helped anyway. Now that you've shown me this, I want to help more than ever. It seems absurd to me that arresting someone without cause would make them less likely to sue. I'd think it would be far more likely. In any event, it's a bit like closing the barn door after the horse has already gone. I appreciate that you don't want to get sued. It's a pity that some of your colleagues aren't as concerned about it as you are. If I were of a mind to sue your arses off, I'd already have plenty of cause from the improper search and the denial of medical treatment for our symptoms. This may be old hat for you, but this is a first for me. I want you to think about how it feels to be in my shoes. Think how you would feel if you were arrested for something you didn't do and treated like a terrorist, formality or no."

"Its procedure Miss, if we don't follow procedure its a lot easier for someone to make a case against us. As for your suggestion you'll sue well I can pretty much guarrantee it will get thrown out of court, but its entirely your perogative. Now if you have some information you believe can help in our investigation please tell me, otherwise I think we should wait for your solicitor."

OOC:,The tattoos look hauntingly familiar, but despite some resemblance, none of the symbols on the girl’s body resemble any traditional alchemical or occult symbols.

"I didn't say that I would sue," says Liz, "only that I would have plenty of reasons. I'm not the one you have to watch out for. The others are a lot more put out than I am, and one of them happens to be a solicitor. If you really want to avoid a lawsuit, you should tell your colleagues to treat us properly." She looks carefully at the photos. "Those tattoos...I think I've seen something like them before, but I can't place them. I watch a lot of programmes about the paranormal on the telly. It might have been on one of them. I might also be able to help you with what appears to be trouble with your CCTV cameras. I know a bit about them, and even more about computers. There were a couple of spots where the image went black, and you didn't respond when I asked about them. Why are there bits missing? Is it a fault, or was the footage edited?"

"I'm sorry, I'm afraid I can't discuss the CCTV evidence Miss Penhaligon, nor will we be seeking your aid in looking at it, although I appreciate the offer. I'm also sorry your friends feathers have been ruffled, but the fact of the matter is we're investigating a possible terrorist incident; it would be remiss of us not to use the full extent of our powers under the circumstances. Now all things considered I think any further conversation should wait until after you've seen your solicitor. Now do you have anyone specific you wish to call or are you happy to have the duty solicitor?

Detective Allen then leads Liz outside and directs her back to the seats. She can see Greg in conversation with a doctor while being given an examination of some kind. She also see's Jacob Greenberg apparently being released.

"There's Mr. Greenberg, the solicitor I told you about," says Liz. "He's familiar with the case, he knows some of what I've gone through, and he's already here. I'll see if he wants to represent me. Thank you, Detective." She waves to Jacob and approaches him.
