"Okay, thanks," said Mary. "I'll go on in and wait for him there." She walked into the bar. As she did, the short young man left the bar and crossed the street, where he got on his bicycle and pedaled away.

Jerome follows the cyclist with his eyes. He waits until 8:05 for signs of Brian. If he doesn't show up by then, he will go in and join the others.

The young man on the bike pedaled away to the west and was soon out of sight.

Jerome does not hear anything.

Jerome could see Mary walk up to the bar and speak to the bartender through the window, but he couldn't hear a word they were saying from here.

At 8:05, if there has been no sign of Brian, Jerome goes inside.

As Mary spoke to the bartender, she began to look more and more concerned. Finally she shouted "What?!" loud enough for even him to hear. She shook her head, distraught.

Jerome continues to wait patiently until 8:05. Mary's problems may be interesting if they have a connection to Brian's, but unless he finds evidence of this, they are not his.

It was still a few minutes before 8:00 when Anthony waved at Jerome, beckoning for him to come inside.

Jerome wheels inside to see what Anthony is excited about.
