IC-Ep 4-Last Dance(Everyone else)

Docking Bay - Styx Base, Pluto
0850 GMT - Tuesday, August 9, 2112

The four remaining Mi-Go watched the humans in the docking bay carefully.

"Let's get the last of these supplies and the colonel's body aboard Charon's Ferry and make our final preparations for takeoff," said Major Natalia Orlova. "We need to be ready to leave as soon as Sergeant Kohl gets back."

Captain Juliette Desjardins started up the Demeter as everyone backed away from it. Charon's Ferry's dock that would hold the small craft during the long voyage back to Earth was already open and waiting for her.

Lt. Hu Xiang, Lt. Edward Barrett, Private Sofia Torres, Private George Bond, Lt. Colleen Rose, Private Alison Silver, and Private Robert MacCrimmon were also present in the docking bay.
OOC,Juliette, please roll Pilot Space Fighter at double your skill to dock with Charon's Ferry. This means you will only fail on a 100.

Not as smooth as normally, but steady and secure nonetheless Juliette docked the Demeter aboard the Charon. Making sure she would be easy to take out in an emergency. All part of protocol, but it felt much more important this time.

Juliette docked the Demeter securely in the fighter bay while the others loaded the rest of the supplies, including the fire extinguishers, aboard Charon's Ferry. Natalia made her way to the bridge and began performing systems checks. While they were doing that, the Persephone lifted off and flew out through the open dome, vanishing into the sky.

Alison watched the Mi-Go suspiciously and watched the Persephone fly off. "This is ridiculous. Why should we get kicked off the planet? It's not like we are even doing anything harmful here." She mumbles to herself.

After Captain Desjardins docks the Persephone, Lt. Edward Barrett deliberately begins to load the remaining cargo into Charon's Ferry, taking care to leave the grav-cart full of fungicide conveniently near the loading ramp for last. He keeps an wary eye on the Mi-Go, sure that at any moment that damned buzzing will begin again. He is also casting furtive glances at the rest of the crew; if anyone does anything sudden, Edward is ready.

Private George Bond assisted Edward with loading the cargo. It went uneventfully enough, and before too long they had loaded everything but the cart with the fungicides. Sergeant Kohl had still not returned, but it seemed like he should have by this time.

Lt. Edward Barrett pauses at the gravcart containing the fungicide and rests one hand on a small tank. He wrinkles his forehead slightly in concern and looks at Private Bond, "Sergeant Kohl is running a bit late, don't you think?"

"Zzztop!" commanded one of the Mi-Go, as all four pointed their weapons in unison at the humans gathered outside the airlock to Charon's Ferry. "Treachery! Our leader izzz attacked!"
Edward Barrett,Sergeant Kohl answered on Edward's private channel. "Story killed the Mi-Go when it insisted on boarding his vessel, sir. The fungicides work! Watch out for the ones in the docking bay. I'm on my way back."

OOC,Where is Alison in relation to the other humans, the Mi-Go and the fungicides?
"Put the gun down! We don't know anything about your leader getting attacked and if we planned it, don't you think we would have gone to a safer place than right in front of you?" Alison draws her own gun and levels it at the Mi-Go and nods to Robert. She didn't want to fight them, but as the only security forces present she had an obligation to protect the crew.

OOC,Alison and the other humans are all next to the cart with the fungicide, right outside the airlock. The exceptions are Major Natalia Orlova and Captain Juliette Desjardins, who are both aboard the ship and do not yet know what is happening. The Mi-Go are some distance away across the docking bay, approximately ten yards. To use the fungicide on them, someone would need to get closer. There are two fire extinguishers and one smaller aerosol spray.

Hu draws his own blaster (assumed to be accessible whilst donning the suit) and back toward the pallet. His eyes scan for better places to duck behind should the bugs start firing.

Upon hearing Sgt. Kohl's report, Lt. Barrett's eyes widen slightly. Under his breath, he mutters to Pvt. Bond, "Our human guests have apparently killed their alien escort. Be ready to move onto the Ferry. I'll try to buy the rest of you a little time." Moving to put Pvt. Bond between the aliens line of sight and himself, he attempts to surreptitiously secret the small aerosol can of fungicide on his person.

Hu's head hung a moment. Still looking for a place to duck to cover, Hu keeps his blaster ready. "What the tian xiao'de is going on? We had nothing to do with that!" he shouts to the bugs.

When people started drawing their weapons, the Mi-Go immediately opened fire! One of them had lightning reflexes and pointed its little knob-like weapon at Alison. A sparkling blue beam shot out of it and streaked off into the sky, missing her by a wide margin. Another one shot a similar beam at Robert an instant later, but it merely scored the floor near his feet.

One of the Mi-Go with a cluster of tubes pointed the bizarre device at the gathered humans. causing a cone of thick white fog to spew out of the longest tube towards them, but it passed well to one side of them. The fourth Mi-Go with its own similar weapon fired it, and the fog rolled right towards them!
OOC,Each of you may attempt a Dodge roll to try to get out of the way of the fog. If you do this, you will not be able to attack this round whether you succeed at the Dodge roll or not. You may take a different action, but you may not attack. Or you may choose to let the fog hit you and suffer the consequences, whatever they are. If you choose not to Dodge, you may make one attack with the weapon you were grabbing. Even though some weapons allow multiple attacks per round, you did not have them ready when the round started, so you only get a single attack this round. Next round (if you survive) you'll be able to get all of your attacks. For firearms, the range is normal, so just use your unmodified skill. If you want to attack with the fungicide spray, you'll need to make both a Luck and a DEX x 5 roll. It will only work from a handful of feet away, so you'll need to rush at the Mi-Go (through the fog) to do this. If the fog incapacitates you, your attack will be negated. Please indicate which Mi-Go you are attacking (the first or second one with the energy weapons, or the first or second one with the fog weapons). I'll post actions for the NPCs.
Juliette Desjardins,Juliette heard Major Orlova's panicked voice on her communicator: "Captain, I need you on the bridge at once! I'm detecting energy weapons fire from the docking bay, and we need to be ready to take off at a moment's notice!"

Alison grabs one of the fungicide containers, grits her teeth and charges through the oncoming fog - hoping that the suit she was wearing would offset some of the effects. She aims to spray the second fog generating Mi-Go, the one that might spell the end for her.
Rolls,Bad luck here, depending on what the fog does this might be the end for Alison. Luck roll: Fail at 95 Dex times 5 roll: Fail at 89 Mistakes were made.

George scrambled to one side, out of reach of the cloud of mist, and drew his revolver as he dropped to one knee and took aim.

Alison was indeed protected by her spacesuit, though she still felt an uncomfortable chill in spite of it. She rushed close enough to spray the Mi-Go with her fire extinguisher, or so she thought. Unfortunately, the spray came up short.

Robert snatched up the other fire extinguisher and followed Alison through the fog, bearing the brunt of it even through his vacuum suit. The chill penetrated his very bones, but it did not stop him. He charged forward and sprayed at the Mi-Go that was unleashing the freezing mist, and his aim was true. However, the thin atmosphere caused it to dissipate before it reached its target.

Colleen moved out of the expanding cloud of mist with almost superhuman speed, drawing her pistol in one fluid motion.

Xiang ducked behind the gravcart, but the mist still rolled over him. However, his suit still insulated him, leaving him merely chilly.
OOC,I still need an action and any necessary rolls for Lt. Edward Barrett. Once his player posts, I'll finish processing the first round and start the second. Alison's DEX x 5 is actually 75, not 65, but it still missed.

Lt. Barrett shouts in alarm when the firing begins. He decides that the odds need to be on the humans' side and that means taking at least one of the armed Mi-Go out. He rushes through the fog, intent on the first Mi-Go with an electricity gun.
OOC,If he makes it, here are the rolls for the small fungicide canister attack: Luck Roll Dexterity x 5 Bah! I am, apparently, clumsy in a spacesuit.

The freezing mist penetrated Edward's suit and chilled his bones, but he continued through it and spritzed at his target when he got close. However, his aim was off and the spray went past the Mi-Go on one side.

Sofia moved too slowly, and the cloud overtook her. The freezing fog pained her a little as she stumbled and drew her pistol.
Juliette Desjardins,"I was talking to him when this started," replied Natalia. "He knows." Juliette had already been on her way to the bridge, and she reached it very quickly. Natalia Orlova was feverishly operating the scanner. "Good, you're here," she said. "Start up the engines!" She activated the ship's external loudspeaker.
Major Natalia Orlova's voice carried through the docking bay: "All personnel, board immediately!"

The first Mi-Go with the knob-like device turned it on Edward, who was very close to it. However, the creature lost its grip on the weapon and it dropped to the floor. The other one shot directly at Robert. Already wounded, he decided to drop flat first and the blast soared over his head.

The Mi-Go with the cluster of tubes that hadn't hit anyone yet fired at George and Colleen, who had escaped from the other one, but it fared no better this time. The other one continued to bathe the attacking humans in freezing fog.
OOC,Xiang, Edward, Sofia, Alison, and Robert are still caught in the mist. You may attempt to Dodge this round if you wish. Now that you've seen the weapon working, you may avoid the relatively slow-moving mist by rolling DEX x 3 or INT x 3, whichever is higher (unless your Dodge skill is higher still, in which case continue to use that). If you do, whether or not you succeed, you will be unable to attack this round, though you will be able to retreat to Charon's Ferry and enter the airlock if you so choose. If you still wish to attack, or if you fail the Dodge roll, you will take another 1d10-3 damage (minimum 0) before your attacks take effect. The rules for attacking with fungicide sprays are the same as before. Xiang, your blaster gets three attacks per round.

Juliette pushed the correct buttons. "Is Heinrich back? " she asks. Then without waiting for a reply she opens a private comchannel to him.
Sergeant Heinrich Kohl,"Heinrich, get your pretty butt back home, mamabird is leaving the nest. We are overrun by critters and need to go fast." She drops the formality, not wanting her possibly last message to him to be a boring soldiermessage, still making sure it is not overheard by anyone else.
She then opens an open com. "All personell in the docking bay, please report status. I will be taking up the Ferry. No heroics. Get your sorry asses into the ship and pardon my french!" She then punches in the liftoff trajectory and prays to all gods listening that all will get on board safely.

Hu tries to get out of the mist, but takes too long to work his way through as he tries to get to the ship. He calls out on open channel, "Those damn things work on FIRES, not these things! Get on board!"
because...,he still has no idea what those canisters are actually filled with.

Upon hearing the call to board, Lt. Barrett quickly assesses the situation. Seeing that Pvt. Silver and he seem to be the only close resistance to the malevolent aliens and now aware of the others trying to escape the mist, he calls out, "Everyone that can, should board now! Go, go go! We'll try to keep them back with the fungicide!" He shoots a grim look at Pvt. Silver, "Looks like it's you and me. Fall back when you can." Lifting his canister to point it at the Mi-Go he had previously attacked, he sprays the fungicide at its misshapen head.

Alison rushed through the mist, impervious to its effects. Robert tried to roll out of the billowing cloud, but his frozen limbs would not respond. He sank to the deck and his eyes slid shut. Edward felt incredibly numb, but he managed to keep going. Sofia staggered out of the thick cloud and made it into the airlock right behind George and Colleen. Xiang could feel the cold biting through his suit, but he made it inside and joined them. Colleen slapped the hand panel that caused it to seal and begin to repressurize. "Four of us are in the airlock, ma'am, but the security officers and Lt. Barrett are still out there fighting," she said into an open channel. "MacCrimmon just went down."

Alison's second spray was directly on target, and so was Edward's. The effect was immediate and deadly. Both Mi-Go let out a horrible buzzing screech as they collapsed to the floor, briefly writhing. Then they stopped moving and their bodies started to decay, slowly liquefying. The fog dissipated, and not a moment too soon.

The two remaining Mi-Go turned on them. The one with the electric gun fired at Edward, but the beam passed harmlessly over his shoulder. "Poizzzon!" called the other Mi-Go, the one with the fog weapon, as it sprayed wildly.
OOC,You may now act again.
Juliette Desjardins,"I'm on my way back, darling," Heinrich replied into Juliette's communicator. "The visitors are with me. Look, if we don't get there in time, you have to take off and save yourselves. I can always escape with our friends in their craft. I love you, Juliette." "He isn't back yet," said Natalia. Juliette began her launch preparations. As she did so, she noticed the scanner showing seven blips moving slowly from the rock formation under which she had found the cavern with the Persephone towards Styx Base. At their current speed, they would arrive in about ten minutes.

"Robert!! NO!!" Alison cried out into the comm channel, "Get up! You have to get up and get out of here! Someone help him!" Seeing the airlock close Alison barked over the mic, "Cowards the lot of you, no one in this god-forsaken empire gives a damn about each other."

Alison pushed herself to remember her training - she could help Robert after the danger was passed - and charged the final mist shooting Mi-Go and sprayed at him with the aerosol poison.

Juliette blushed violently. But she kept her cool about her. She opened her com for all to hear, even the Persephone.

"We have seven more incoming, estimated time of arrival 10 minutes. Lt. Rose, how many enemies are still standing? Lt. Barret and Private Silver, as the remaining funtional personel outside the ship, it is up to you two to get private Mac Crimmon into the airlock, or secure the area so others can carry him in. Protocol demands that I leave with as many as possible, even though it means leaving some behind. So private Silver, snap out of it and do your job quickly. I must take off within 4 minutes to be sure to make it out before we are overtaken. Can you secure the area?"

She then looked at the skies above and made a little prayer. To whom she did not care. As far as they made it out with as many personell as possible.

Once the airlock cycles, Hu lets everyone else out. "Go get strapped in. I'll see if I can't cover them a little." He hoists his blaster and waits for the others to enter the ship proper.

The Mi-Go that Alison sprayed shrieked and buzzed as it went down and perished like the others. That only left the one that Edward faced.
OOC,It will take a good deal more than one combat round for the airlock to finish cycling. If Edward finishes off the last Mi-Go this round with his action it will be no problem. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a bit longer. Once he acts I'll wrap up this round and, if necessary, start the next one. The Persephone left some time ago and is well out of range of your personal communicators. Charon's Ferry does, however, have the means of hailing her.

When the Mi-Gos begin to melt, Lt. Barrett whoops. Hearing Pvt. Silver's wail, he briefly peers into the mist, trying to locate the fallen Scotsman. When he's sure he has Pvt. MacCrimmon's position, he whips his head around to glare maliciously at the last remaining Mi-Go. "Have another hit", he cackles, "It's good stuff!" Edward leans forward and depresses the trigger point-blank, sending a deadly cloud toward the blasphemous thing's weirdly flashing head.
OOC,Combat Rolls: Luck Roll = 68 Dexterity x 5 = 11

"I think I saw one go down as the outer door was closing," Colleen replied to Juliette over the communicator as the airlock continued to cycle. "Now that it's shut, we can't tell what's going on out there."

Edward's spray went in the right direction, but it petered out before it reached the Mi-Go. Seeing that its companions were dead, it flapped its wings and flew straight up, stopping and hovering almost thirty feet overhead - out of range of the fungicide sprays.
OOC,The mist is gone. It is your turn to act now. You cannot use the fungicide at this range, as it'll never reach the Mi-Go.

As his prey leaps out of range, Lt. Barrett utters a frustrated growl and, keeping a wary eye on the now airborne alien, says, "Private Silver, assist me in carrying Private MacCrimmon. We'll retreat to the airlock. Be ready to drop him and fire should brainy up there," he glowers at the hovering alien, "...decide to grow some balls." He begins to back up slowly toward Pvt. MacCrimmon's prone form. Edward keys his comm and tries one more time, "Sergeant Kohl, this is Lieutenant Barrett. The staff has almost completed the boarding procedure for departure. Please relay your situation." Cursing under his breath, he prays that Kohl is still alive.

"You'll have to carry him yourself sir, I'll cover us. Remember he has some sort of lightning gun - he doesn't need to come down and if he hits the ship I don't think that will be good either." Alison pocketed the fungicide and drew her 9mm and fired. All while backing up with Robert and Barret.
Rolls,I believe Alison should get 1 shot this round with drawing her weapon. but Handgun roll: 45% (1d100=46) It doesn't matter by so close.
Edit,I realized I was using a full fire extinguisher for the fungicide not a small aerosol so I will be carrying the extinguisher as I fire (if I can) or dropping it if I can't or it affects my shooting.

Alison's shot streaked within an inch of the Mi-Go as it rose high above her. It stopped in midair and pointed its strange weapon at her. The blue sparkly beam streaked straight for her!

Edward reached Robert's prone form, and he could see by the indicators on his suit displaying his vitals that the young man was still alive, just unconscious and suffering from hypothermia. Robert was heavy, and it would be difficult to lift him unaided.

"We're in the airlock leading out of the lab module, sir," replied Heinrich to Edward, "heading towards the reactor module. We should be at your position within ten minutes."
OOC,Yes, you can hold the fire extinguisher in your off hand and your pistol in the other. It just takes two hands to actually use the extinguisher. And you did get one shot in the previous round when you drew your weapon. This round, you would get three shots if the Mi-Go doesn't disable you, but you may want to roll Dodge instead. Edward, please make a Resistance Table roll pitting your STR of 11 against Robert's SIZ of 13. This gives you a 40% chance. This takes place in the previous round. You may act again in the current round, either to try again in the event that your first roll fails, or to taks some other action (such as drawing and firing your pistol).

The beam struck Alison full in the chest, slamming her to the floor and leaving her twitching spasmodically.
OOC,Alison, please roll on the Resistance Table, pitting your remaining HP (7) against the damage from the weapon (5). This gives you a 60% chance. If you fail, it will cause your heart to fail, which means you will die without swift medical attention from Edward, who is the only one who can reach you in time. He will have one chance at a First Aid roll. If you succeed at the Resistance Table roll, you will still be stunned for this round and four more.

As the beamed hit slammed into Alison and knocked her to the floor she screamed. Her piercing cry was quickly cut off as she lay spasming on the floor a look of pain spread across her face, but little else.
Roll,Resistance table roll to not die. 60% (1d100=94) A second major failure. Well, she had a good run. Also, I don't doubt you counted correctly, but where did Alison lose the other 5 HP? She didn't take any damage from the fog and I dont remember her getting shot during the coup.

"Are you still fighting the Mi-Go?" Heinrich added.
OOC,Alison didn't lose another 5 HP, only the 5 from the electric gun. However, looking at the rules for the weapon, even though the Resistance Table roll takes place after the damage is deducted from your HP by a literal reading, it makes more sense if you make the roll against your full HP before applying the damage. Pitting your full HP of 12 against the damage of 5 means you have an 85% chance, but unfortunately that 94 still fails. Alison isn't dead yet, though. After Edward makes his Resistance Table roll for the previous round to see if he can carry Robert, he will have a 30% chance to apply First Aid and save her life.

Mr. Handy,Ahh okay. I misread it. I looked at the character sheet and saw -5 (7) and thought that I was at 7HP and I was taking the resistance roll because I was dropping to 2HP. I didn't realize you already updated everything. Alright, we'll see what happens here then. Maybe I'll luck out, but with only a 30% chance if he tries to save me, its unlikely. :D

Lt. Barrett is attempting to lift Pvt. MacCrimmon when he hears the electric crackle of the alien weapon and the thump following Pvt. Silver's collapse.
Mr. Handy,Okay, will First Aid work as a skill for triaging wounded? Basically, with that bug hanging around with a killer ranged weapon, I can only choose one to drag to the airlock. What are the two wounded peoples' conditions in relation to each other? Which is more likely to live if I drag him/her?

OOC,True it's unlikely for Alison to survive, but it was even more unlikely that you'd be in this situation in the first place. It only happened due to lucky rolling by the Mi-Go and unlucky rolling by you. You don't need to roll anything to know what condition Alison and Robert are in thanks to the helpful displays on the spacesuits. Alison's heart has stopped, and she has just flatlined. She will die without swift medical treatment (a successful First AId roll). This must be done either in the current round or the following round, or it will be too late to save her. Robert is unconscious, but he will live if he is left alone and can be moved safely. Before you do anything else, make that Resistance Table roll of your STR against Robert's SIZ to see if you were able to pick him up last round. The action already took effect before this happened; the roll is just to see whether or not you succeeded. If you fail, then there really isn't a choice as to who to drag, as Robert won't be going anywhere. To see if you can carry Alison, you can make another Resistance Table roll pitting your STR of 11 against her much lower SIZ of 10, which gives you a 55% chance. This will be your action for the entire round if you choose to try it, whether you succeed or fail. Likewise, if you try First Aid, that is your action for the round. In either case, you may still roll Dodge to avoid being shot, and you might as well do so in advance just in case, so long as you do not attack. Note that if you succeed at a First Aid roll, the person you are treating will regain 1d3 HP (you can go ahead and roll this if you succeed) and will awaken enough to move under his or her own power starting in the following round. Also note that the ship's airlock is still repressurizing, and the four people who entered it are still waiting inside to board the ship. It will take several rounds before that can happen, and then several more before the airlock is depressurized so that you can board. The only other exits from the docking bay are the airlock leading back into the base and the one leading out to Pluto's surface.

Edward had no difficulty carrying the unconscious Robert. When Alison went down, he raced to her side. There was a limit to what he could do, as she was wearing her spacesuit and removing or breaching it would surely seal her doom. The only way he could restart her heart was hands-only CPR, so he tried it, pressing on her chest repeatedly. At first nothing happened, but finally her heartbeat resumed weakly. Her eyes fluttered open.

Another blue bolt sizzled past as the Mi-Go fired again.
OOC,Alison and Edward, you may both act now. Edward can carry Robert by himself.

Alison's eyes open and she jerked up with a gasp. It took her only a second to realize the danger was still hovering just overhead after her short black out. Even though her heart felt like it had been hit with a sack of hammers she drew her gun and fired again at the Mi-Go.
Rolls,I'd like to take the maximum number of shots at the Mi-go, but if I remember correctly I have to wait until half my initiative to keep shooting? First shot: Handgun (45%) (1d100=63) Miss.

Lt. Barrett quickly makes sure that Pvt. Silver is cognisant saying, "Are you good to go?" Without waiting for her answer, he slings Pvt. MacCrimmon his left shoulder and begins to make his way to the Ferry's airlock. At the airlock, he dumps Edward roughly under the nearest cover and waits for the airlock to finish cycling. Activating his commlink again, he sends a terse message to Sergeant Kohl, "Kohl, Barrett. We have less than ten minutes until we have seven more incoming. Run your ass off, if you please. Airlock is cycling." He pulls his own .45 and takes aim for the fluttering Mi-Go, intent on keeping the Mi-Go's attention from Pvt. Silver.
OOC,Edward wanted to get MacCrimmon under cover and near to the ship's airlock so that when it opens there will be less space to cover. I will roll for my .45 when it is my turn in the initiative.

OOC,Whoops, I forgot that Alison is still stunned as part of the weapon's effect when I posted last night. I realized it in the morning, but I didn't have a chance to get online and post until tonight. Alison, you are stunned for this round and the following three. This means your shot does not go off, so you save a bullet and don't make yourself a target. Edward, you may still act, and you will need to edit your post. You may want to change your action in light of the fact that Alison cannot move under her own power yet. Also, which airlock are you trying to reach? Remember, the ship's airlock is busy and will remain so for a few minutes, so you cannot enter it. The only other airlocks are the one leading into the base and the one leading out to the surface. You could reach one this round carrying Robert, but you will not be able to start cycling it until next round (after the Mi-Go acts), and Alison will not be able to come with you if you do. When you don't have a weapon ready, you get one shot in the second DEX cycle in the combat round, and it isn't at half your initiative. That's for the third shot for firearms that get three shots per round, and that comes at 1/2 of your DEX in the second cycle. However, the Mi-Go has higher DEX than either of you, so it goes first in every round whether your weapon is ready or not. After that, you may take all of our shots at once.

OOC,If I'm stunned does that mean I'm incomprehensible, can't talk, or I'm fine just unable to move? If Alison can respond she tells the LT to get Robert to the ship and that she can't move.

Natalia and Juliette waited tensely on the bridge, watching the scanners and continuing preparations for launch. "Sir, most of the crew is aboard," Natalia reported to Persephone on the communicator. "A few of them are still out in the docking bay fighting the Mi-Go, and Sergeant Kohl is with the visitors inside the base somewhere. We have seven more Mi-Go enroute with an ETA of nine minutes, but we hope to be airborne by then."

"Thank you, Major," replied General Pryce. "Keep us informed."

Xiang, Colleen, Sofia, and George continued to wait as the airlock repressurized. It was about halfway done now. They could hear the shooting out in the docking bay, but there seemed nothing they could do about it.

Edward raced for the airlock to Charon's Ferry, drawing his .45 as he ran with Robert slung over his shoulder, but he could tell by the indicators that it was still occupied and only halfway done repressurizing to let the rest of the crew into the ship. It would be about three more minutes before he could get inside. Alison lay still where he had left her. He had just set Robert down when the Mi-Go fluttered around up above, taking aim yet again with its strange weapon and sending another deadly bolt whizzing past. It struck the floor several feet away.
Edward Barrett,"We're on our way," replied Heinrich. "ETA nine minutes."
OOC,Edward, it is now your turn to act. You may fire one shot this round if you wish. Alison is stunned for this round and two more. It will take another five rounds before the people in the airlock can enter the ship proper, and another ten rounds after that before it depressurizes again to let anyone on board.

Lt. Barrett takes careful aim at the hovering monstrosity and fires!
Mr. Handy,Can I see any cover that I can use nearby? I know that I said I dumped Pvt. MacCrimmon under the nearest cover, but wasn't really sure what is left hanging about near the ship's airlock.

"What is your current situation, sir?" Heinrich asked on Edward's communicator. "Are there any hostiles still present? How long before the ship takes off?"

The high caliber bullet struck the flying creature, which reeled with the impact. It returned fire, sending the deadly beam at Edward!
OOC,Edward, you should now roll Dodge. If you fail, you will be hit by the beam. You will not be able to attack this round if you roll Dodge, whether you succeed or fail. I don't think the gravcart was actually taken into the airlock, so it should still be right outside the ship and could be used as cover. However, the Mi-Go's mobility makes that cover of limited use. It can save you from the blast this round if you succeed at the Dodge roll and dive behind it. Alison is stunned for this round and one more.

The blue beam winged Edward as he dived behind the gravcart, striking both it and him with a powerful blow. The cart was blown to bits. Edward's vision went black, and then all he saw was a white light seemingly at the end of a long tunnel.

Alison could only watch in shock as Edward was slain. He had given his life trying to save her and Robert. The victorious Mi-Go descended, landing on the floor of the docking bay just outside the ship's airlock. It used a few of its pincers to remove Edward's helmet. Its back was to Alison. Her extremities tingled, and she found that she was able to move again.
OOC,Alison, please roll Sanity for seeing Edward killed. Sanity loss is 0/1d6. If you lose 5 or more Sanity, you must also roll Idea. If you succeed at that roll, you go temporarily insane. Otherwise, you may act freely this round. I've covered two rounds in the last update. For those of you in the airlock, it will open after two more rounds, including this one.
Edward Barrett,Alison's stun will not wear off in time to have a chance to save you, unfortunately. Death might not be the end for you depending on what happens, so please keep following this thread. Normally, you would not have had a chance to say anything, but I'll allow your last words to go out since you only failed the Dodge roll by 1. I'm sorry it was so painfully close there.

Alison gasps as Lt. Barrett goes down and it shakes her to her core even though she had help kill a CO not more than a few minutes ago. The terror and disgust she feels doesn't seem to register though - only the fact that she can move again.

Alison grabs the fungicide spray, gets as close as possible and unleashes a torrent of poison at the Mi-Go.
Rolls,Sanity failed, followed by a loss of 5 sanity, and a failed idea roll. Temporary insanity is avoided for the time being - but Alison isnt getting any more stable. Alison got as close as she could without risking drawing the Mi-Go's attention and cut loose with the fire extinguisher, but the spray dissipated in the thin atmosphere and didn't reach her target. It heard the noise of the extinguisher working and took to the air, effortlessly carrying Edward's corpse with it. It was quickly out of reach of the spray once more.
OOC,Alison, you may act now. If you choose to fire your pistol, it is not currently ready (the extinguisher takes both hands to operate), so you only get one shot this round. Yes, the Luck rolls are needed because the docking bay is depressurized and open to what little atmosphere there is. It will be one more round before the airlock finishes cycling.
Alison Silver,You avoided temporary insanity, but you've now lost enough Sanity within the last game hour to go indefinitely insane. The insanity won't kick in until after this encounter ends. I think fear of the Mi-Go is an appropriate one.

The airlock finished cycling, and the inner door opened. Colleen, Sofia, and George hurried aboard, leaving Lt. Hu in the airlock by himself.

The Mi-Go tried to throw off Alison's aim, but it was too slow. The bullet struck the creature right in the center of its bulbous brain. A shot like that would have killed any human being, which just drove home the point that this was anything but. Though it did not fall, the Mi-Go still appeared badly injured. It continued flying, heading out of the dome and across the barren landscape.
OOC,Nice shooting! Alison, you may fire three more shots this round if you wish. However, the Mi-Go will be at long range for the second and third shots, which will put you at half skill.

Alison stood in shock as her bullet tore through Mi-Go's head and the creature did not fall. "These things are monsters." She fired off another round, but her gun malfunctioned.
Rolls,Damn! This thing has a lot of health. All three of the next shots would have missed, but I believe the first roll, 98, is a weapon malfunction. Alison pointed her gun at the fleeing Mi-Go and squeezed the trigger, but nothing happened. Of all the times for her weapon to jam...

The Mi-Go flew off into the distance and was swiftly no longer visible. Alison was left in the docking bay, alone except for Robert, who still lay unconscious in front of the airlock.

On the bridge of Charon's Ferry, Natalia and Juliette could see one blip leaving the docking bay and heading back in the direction from which the other seven were approaching. At this rate, those seven would arrive in about eight minutes.
OOC,The gun is jammed. Clearing the jam will require a successful Handgun or Mechanical Repair roll, whichever is higher. It will take 1d6 rounds if successful. This is not as much of an issue now that combat is over, but it may make a difference. It's not that the Mi-Go has a lot of health. It looked fairly frail, and that shot should have killed it outright. It did seem to be resistant to bullets, however. It's a good thing you had the fungicide to even the odds. Otherwise that fight would have been not just tough, but nearly impossible. I often have luck like that. It's pretty common for me to roll a 2 followed by a 99.
Edward Barrett,You're definitely still in the game in spite of your death. I'll link you to a new thread from this one when the time comes.

Alison curses as her gun jams and the Mi-go gets away with Lt. Barrett's corpse....he was dead wasn't he? At least he looked dead to Alison... what would the Mi-go want with him?

Alison comes to her senses and runs to Robert's side, "Rob, are you okay? Can you hear me?" She opens a channel to the rest of the base, "We killed three of the Mi-go, but one got away... he took Lt. Barrett with him...but the L.T. was dead." Her voice cracked as she spoke. "Robert needs first aid, we have to get out of here. We can't let those...things take us."
Alison's next move,I'm not 100% on the airlock situation. If Alison can move Robert into the airlock to Charon's Ferry right away - she will. If it will take longer than 6 rounds before she can move him into the airlock - she will attempt to unjam her gun.

Juliette stared at the blip on the screen. She listened to what Alison said, and got visible upset. " We can not let them take his body away. They said something earlier that the crew of the persephone were rescued, when they were damaged, an preserved?. What happens to his soul if he is captured here on Pluto?" Juliette got up. "Mam, I have to take the fighter out. Stop the Things from "preserving" him...!"

"They said 'damaged' when talking about the Persephone's crew. I am telling you he is dead. It doesn't matter what they do to him now, even if they preserve him It won't be the L.T." Alison retorted, "If you leave, what are the rest of us going to do? You're the pilot, do you think we can pick up the controls to the ship on the fly? We need to get out of here and you need to pilot us to do it."

Alison waited by the ship's airlock with Robert. "And besides, if there is a god, the L.T.'s soul will be out of his body by now."

"This is Sergeant Kohl," Heinrich said on everyone's communicator. "Our ETA is now eight minutes. Good job, Private Silver. Do what you can for MacCrimmon. You've had first aid training. We're on our way."

On the bridge, Natalia turned to Juliette. "Private Silver is right, Captain. Lt. Barrett is dead and beyond our help. We need to do what we can for the living, and we will need you to fly Charon's Ferry."

Lt. Hu Xiang sealed the inner door and began depressurizing the airlock. Colleen, Sofia, and George hurried towards their stations.
OOC,It will take another nine rounds before the airlock is depressurized once more, which gives you enough time both to try to unjam your pistol and to try to treat Robert with First Aid. If you succeed at that, roll 1d3 to see how many HP he recovers. You can go ahead and roll for both actions if you like.

Alison crouches over Robert and begins treating his wounds and despite her pounding chest and constant looking over her should to make sure the Mi-go hadn't returned, she had great success with her first aid.

With Robert taken care of she turned her attention to her gun to fix the jam, reload the weapon, and hopefully not need to use it. Unfortunately her hands seem to be a little too shakytoo shaky to properly fix the gun.

After the airlock closes again, Hu paces back and forth in the small airlock. He thinks of times and reports and is worried that... "More will be here by the time the airlock finishes."

He opens a com to the ship. "We're not going to have enough time. I'm going to try to override the safety and open the door before it's done depressurization." And with that he goes to the control panel and tries to override the safety protocol to no immediate result.

"Sir, this is Charon's Ferry," Natalia reported to General Pryce on the comm. "All but one of the Mi-Go in the base were destroyed, and the other one escaped. Lt. Barrett is dead, and the Mi-Go took his body. MacCrimmon is wounded. It looks like we'll be able to get everyone aboard before any additional Mi-Go arrive, with the possible exception of Sergeant Kohl. If he doesn't get here in time, we may have to take off without him. Fortunately, the visitors haven't left yet. If he has to, he can catch a ride with them."

"Understood, Major," replied General Pryce. "We've cut off our acceleration. After you take off, you can catch up with us and dock. Then Captain Bauer can see to anyone who is wounded."

Since she couldn't undo the seals on Robert's spacesuit in the depressurized docking bay, Alison's options were limited, but she used the suit's built-in controls to adjust the internal temperature enough to warm him up. That did the trick, and he soon came to his senses. "Ach..." he moaned. "Alison? What happened?" He adjusted the controls further while Alison worked on her gun until they were perfect. He felt much better and was able to stand once again. "Jammed? I can help you with that if you like."

Xiang could not hack into the airlock's system to override the safety protocols. It seemed to him that even Sofia probably wouldn't have been able to do it. Whoever designed the system apparently took safety really seriously.
OOC,The failed Computer Use roll means that you will be unable to override the protocols before the airlock finishes cycling.

"Yeah, the damn thing just jammed up on me and doesn't seem to want to help me at all." Alison laughed nervously, "If you could clear it for me that would be great." Alison handed her gun over to Robert. She leaned against the wall waiting for the airlock to open and slowly slid to the floor into a seated position to wait. The entire time, her eyes kept darting towards where the Mi-Go had taken the L.T.

"You're trying to force it," said Robert, taking the pistol. "You've got to be gentle with it, just like..." He blushed. "Well, you know." He skillfully and patiently worked at it until he finally managed to eject the offending slug. "There you go." He returned the gun to Alison.

A short time afterwards, the airlock finished repressurizing and the outer door slid open to reveal Lt. Hu Xiang, who had his blaster ready.

George split off and ran to the engine room, while Colleen and Sofia reached the bridge where Natalia and Juliette were. They took up their positions.

Juliette, beeing on foot greeted Sofia as she entered. "Private Torres. Good to see you. Can you remotely override the airlocks so that Heinrich... Sergeant Kohl... can get here in time? Is there anyway of speeding the process up? As they are all wearing suits it should not be such a great risk. If not I have to ask Sergeant Kohl to double back and take his chances with the strange visitors. If I understand things correctly we have control over the docking bay and can get in the last of our people in a short time?" Juliette was pale and her cheeks flushed. She was showing of more emotions than normal. "I do under no circumstance want to risk more of our people beeing caught by those monsters."

Sofia smiled at Juliette and saluted. "I'm glad to see you too, ma'am!" she said, sliding into her station. "That's a great idea! Let me see what I can do." She worked feverishly at her console.

"Lt. Rose," said Natalia, "now that you're here, you can take over communications with the Persephone."

"Yes, ma'am," said Colleen as she sat down at the communications station.

Sofia quickly tapped into the base's airlock controls and overrode the protocols. "There, I did it!"

"Excellent," said Natalia. "We won't have to leave Sergeant Kohl behind after all. Let him know what you've done and get a revised ETA."

"Yes, ma'am," said Sofia. She spoke into her communicator. "Sergeant Kohl, this is Private Torres. I've just overridden the safety protocls on the airlocks between you and the docking bay, so you don't need to wait for them to cycle. The base will now depressurize since the docking bay is open to the atmosphere, so you'll need to make sure your suits remain sealed. How long will it take you to reach us now?"

"I estimate about another four minutes under the circumstances."

Natalia nodded. "We have seven minutes before any incoming arrive. Let him know we'll wait for him."

Sofia checked the scanners. "We'll wait for you before we lift off, Sergeant. The Mi-Go won't arrive for another seven minutes."

"General Pryce, this is Lt. Rose," said Colleen on the ship-to-ship communicator. "I'm on the bridge of Charon's Ferry now. We should be lifting off in about four minutes, and we will be able to bring Sergeant Kohl with us. We're just waiting for him to get back. The next group of Mi-Go is seven minutes away."

"Roger that, Lieutenant," replied the general.
OOC,Alison, Robert, and Lt. Hu can all board the ship now. It looks like you'll be able to lift off too.

Once aboard she collapses into a seat and calls to Juliette, "Tell the Sarge to hurry his ass up and say his goodbyes, I don't want to be on this rock a second longer with those creatures... It's too bad we can't make sure these monsters don't follow us or leave the planet."

Juliette walked the few steps to give Sofia a pat on the shoulder. "Good work, Sofia . Really good work. " She smiled her brilliant smile at her. She then got back into her seat and plotted in the trajectory for a quick takeoff. Her mood better now that she needn't leave anyone behind. But it would not be completely good before she got off this dratted rock.

Hu makes room for the others to join him in the airlock, blaster at the ready and eyes scanning everywhere in case there are some uninvited guests. Once everyone's aboard, he closes the latch and lets the airlock cycle, connecting to the pilot, "We're on!"

Sofia positively beamed at Juliette's compliment. "Thank you, Captain!" she said.

The airlock finished cycling after two more minutes, filling with breathable air. The inner door then opened to allow Xiang, Alison, and Robert into the ship.

"The engines are in good condition," George reported on the communicator. "They're warming up now. We'll be ready to take off by the time the sarge gets here."

OOC,Can Alison attempt First aid on herself or did Lt. Barrett's First Aid check cover everything that could be fixed up without rest or medicine?

OOC,Yes, Lt. Barrett's roll already gave you back everything you're going to get until you've had time to heal.

Robert sealed the airlock once everyone had boarded the ship and started its cycle, so that it would be depressurized by the time Sergeant Kohl arrived. He headed off to the bridge.

A couple of minutes later, everyone heard the sergeant's voice on the communicators: "I am approaching Charon's Ferry as we speak. Are we ready for departure?"

"Yes, Sergeant, come aboard and secure yourself for liftoff," replied Major Orlova. "Everyone else, strap yourselves in as well. Once Sergeant Kohl is aboard, we take off."

Alison checked everyone's straps and harnesses as they readied themselves for launch and paced near the back while waiting for the Sarge. When he finally arrives she greets him with a salute and helps him prep for launch before strapping herself in. If anyone looked at her through her helmet they would see that she looked pale and the visor was fogging up lightly from her heavy breathing.
