Now I have the Call of Cthulhu 5th edition rule book. Is that going to be problem?

Characteristics are generated using the following rules.

Roll 4d6 and drop the lowest die for STR, CON, POW, DEX, and APP. You may roll first and then place the results as you wish.

Roll 3d6 and drop the lowest die and add 6 for SIZ and INT. Place the results as you wish.

Roll 4d6 and drop the lowest die and then add 3 for EDU.

You may lower the results of any characteristic if you want but not below 8.

You need to have some sort of connection to Jackson Elias. I posted his bio in the evidence thread.

I would also like it if you knew each other. Possibly you all had worked together on some sort of investigation in the past.
We can talk over that stuff here. I don't want anyone to have any Mythos dealings or knowledge to begin the game. Occult knowledge is ok though.

The game begins in New York City in January of 1925. If your character does not live in NYC or nearby make sure they have a short travel time to there.

Looking good Gomez. Thanks for having me onboard and I'm looking forward to the game.

I have no problem with the 5th ed. method. For a character, I am thinking of an Ethnologist at this point. This could tie me in easily to Elias. Hopefully, I can be tied in with the other investigators. If not, I can adjust.

I will be looking to have my character up by the weekend if all goes well.

5th edition is no problem for me, either. I have the 6th edition book, but they're not all that different.

I think you meant to roll 3d6, not 3d5, for SIZ and INT, and to add 6 to the rolls, so that's what I did.

Doesn't the game begin in January 1925, not 1926?

Appearance & Personality: Amy Lawrence is a pretty young lady with blonde hair, about five and a half feet tall and weighing around 130 pounds. She seems to radiate innocence, and she can be somewhat naive and trusting, not yet familiar with the ways of the world. She has always been fascinated by history and is an avid reader.

Background: Amy comes from an upper middle class New York family. Her father is a professor of history at Columbia University, and she got her love of the past from him. Amy was always a bright student and did well in school, though she did not have much of a social life. She attended Barnard College and graduated last year with a degree in history, but she does not want to end her studies, so she has enrolled as a graduate assistant at Columbia, doing research with her father. She is especially intrigued by ancient Egyptian and Mayan history, and while she has been on a dig at some Mayan ruins in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, she has yet to visit Egypt, though she longs to do so.

While at college, Amy attended a lecture by Jackson Elias about Mayan and other Central American death cults. She enjoyed it so much she spoke to him at great length about the subject matter afterwards. The two of them formed an instant connection, and Jackson invited her out to dinner with him. Amy was smitten, and while Jackson is much older than her, she hopes to one day marry him - if only he'll propose. He seems to regard her more as a daughter than a potential love interest, but she is glad just to be able to spend time with him.

Lately he has spent less and less time with her, having become obsessed with his latest project. When she asked him what he was working on, he refused to tell her. She had pleaded with him to take her along when he was about to leave on an expedition, but he declined, saying it was too dangerous. Amy burst into tears, saying that she was worried about it being too dangerous for him and that she wanted to be with him, blurting out that she loves him. The usually unflappable Jackson was stunned, but he quickly recovered. He held her hands and told her that she was very special to him, and that it was because she meant so much to him that he could not bring her along. He kissed her goodbye and promised that he would see her again when he returned.

Fixed the dice type and the starting year.

Hey, Mr. Handy, slenderman says that he cannot post here for some reason. Can you look into that?

Thanks! I've been vague about Amy's family, so if other players want to play her relatives, that could work easily. Even what little I said about her father is flexible, so I could change his field of study.

The instructions are still missing the +6 for SIZ and INT.

D.L. Williams

Post by Job »

Here is "Rhino", named after a drunken rampage of D.L.'s through a local pub, nearby appliance store, and 2 neighbor's houses before he reached home.

Appearance: "Rhino" Williams is a tall, strapping young man. He exercises religiously, jogging 5 miles every morning at sunrise, then performing calisthetics and weightlifting for an hour or two until he eats breakfast and gets ready for work. If time permits after work, he spends time in batting and fielding practice, or playing in nonleague ballgames with friends. He does not smoke cigarettes, but occasionally can be found drinking with buddies.

He keeps his hair in a tight brushcut and is fastidious about hygiene. If he’s not wearing his exercising outfits or work uniforms, he prefers to wear a collared shirt with rolled-up sleeves, no tie, and loose-fitting slacks. His clothing is well-worn since he cannot afford much on his meager salary as a mechanic, but they are always cleaned and pressed. He just purchased a new pair of workboots that he often wears both on and off duty.

He continues to keep his baseball uniforms, cleats, and ballplaying equipment hung and sorted in a separate closet, well maintained, and ready for use.

Personality: D.L. is determined, but outgoing and happy-go-lucky. Because of his moderate success and frequent travels in his minor league baseball career, he has a large number of friends in cities along the East Coast and in a variety of occupations. Once his exercise routines are out of the way for the day, he loves to spend his free time playing cards and chatting with friends and colleagues. He always has a joke or funny story at hand. Although not particularly well read, he is of better-than-average intelligence and knows whom to contact if he has questions.

When the "Rhino" encounters trouble, he turns to his disciplined side, sizes up the problem, and attacks towards the solution with quiet, ferocious purpose. Once the problem is overcome, he returns to his normal, joking self. Although Rhino is certainly capable of handling himself physically, he usually thinks before he acts, however he does have a temper that occasionally gets the best of him.

D.L. believes himself to be firmly grounded in “reality” and does not believe in ghosts, extraterrestrials, or spiritual phenomena. Lately, however, since he began working part time as a mechanic at the New York City Asylum, D.L. has begun hearing strange, whispered comments and has occasionally noticed disjointed, unusual writings that have caused him concern.

Background: Born July 7, 1910 in Albany, Indiana. D.L. grew up in a strong, loving family environment. His father unfortunately passed away in a car accident when he was 16, and they were very close, but Dayton recovered well from the tragedy. His father schooled him well in baseball fundamentals. Afterwards, D.L.’s mom took a keen interest in his activities and progress, helped him through his trials and tribulations with the army and his baseball career, and he still calls her once a week (despite the cost).

D.L. joined the Army immediately after graduating from high school. He was assigned and trained as a mechanic, but also showed promise in firearms and demolitions. He was well prepared both physically and mentally for combat, but saw no action. He attained the rank of Corporal, but had no interest in a career in the service and was given an honorable discharge after 4 years.

Rhino traveled to the Elmira, New York area after high school to join the Elmira Colonels, a minor league team. He later moved into New York City when his second minor league assignment ended and vows to get in the best shape of his life to make another attempt at breaking into the major leagues. Rhino bats right, and throws right.

Relationship with Jackson Elias: D.L. met Jackson Elias at the City Asylum while Jackson was visiting a colleague who had unfortunately descended into madness. He struck up a conversation with Jackson that day and, although they were of vastly different backgrounds and experience, the two men took an immediate liking to one another. Jackson occasionally made time to see Rhino play in games and tryouts in NYC and Rhino would jog to Jackson's appartment every now and then to fix appliances and vehicles as a favor. Jackson usually paid for lunch or dinner and they discussed everything from astronomy, politics, biology, women, beermaking, odds at poker, and women.

Backgorund: George is 55 years old, weights 70 kg and rise to 1.70 m. He is hideous in appearance. Teenagers tend to stare and laugh at him and children tend to cry, scare or run from him. In addition for being born a little disfigured, the left half of his face and body was slightly burnt when he traveled to South America fifteen years ago in a missionary mission to the pagan tribes of the Amazon basin. There he encountered a wild tribe that killed some of the expedition members and George was slightly burned when the savages attacked them with burning arrows and one caught his garbs in flames when he fled with his companions.
This was his last mission and he retired to the books and tomes of the catholic church to seek answers about the occult and the various strange faiths and customs the barbarians, savages and tribesmen he encountered over his expedition years.
George helped Jackson to write the “Masters of the Black Arts (1912)” book.

Being born a disfigured child, George was abandoned immediately by his mother and was left in the orphanage of the Catholic Church were he was raised and educated and became a special missionary and occultist. He specialized with investigating lost faiths, pagan rituals and the strange beliefs and folklore of barbarians and tribesmen over the world and how to approach these groups and convert them to follow Christianity.

Appearance and Personality: At 6'4" and 155 lbs, Winston Brody is a thin, lanky man. While not physically impressive, he does possess a strong constitution from facing the elements on the numerous digs he has been on. He is clean shaven with dark hair and tends to dress rather well when not in the field. He is a friendly man, despite his upper class upbringing, and has a deep curiousity for his field of study. While respectful of local folklore when in the field, Winston has not encountered any unusual phenomena that could not be explained through rational thought and deduction. However, he has recently chosen to take training in the use and handling of a firearm for protection against animals and potentially unsavoury characters that he may meet in the back waters of rural North America. While not particularly into sports as a youth, Winston enjoys spectating at gaming events, most notably baseball.

Background: Born in New York City to an upper class family, Winston had a particularly easy childhood. His family's wealth and status allowed him to attend Columbia University, though he did not possess the most remarkable grades in high school. It was at university where he gained interest in Anthropology, specifically in the field of Ethnology. His main area of expertise has been the study of ancient Native American tribes and since convocating,he has continued this study while participating in digs in the American Midwest and in the south. He was invited to be a sessional lecturer at Columbia, which he accepted, and hopes to use this opportunity to become a fully tenured professor.

Relationship with Jackson Elias: Winston attended one of Jackson's lectures and, impressed with the subject matter, struck up a professional relationship with the man. They have since corresponded numerous times, especially when Winston's study of ancient Native American tribes overlaps with the knowledge that Jackson possesses of cult groups world-wide. As well, Winston owns all of Jackson's books. It is also through Jackson that Winston met Jonah Kensington. Winston is working on a project concerning his own research that he hopes to get published and possibly fast-track his career goals.
