"I need to be able to repair my ambulance if it breaks down," explains Irene, "and to do it in the blackout." She focuses on the door so that she doesn't have to look at the naked people in the cage. "Yes, perhaps they have been drugged. We'll have to examine them once we get them to safety. I didn't see any blankets either, but there are those four aprons back in the other room. We could put those on some of the ladies, and our coats. If you gentlemen would part with your shirts, those would do for the shorter girls. The fellows in here would only need something the size of a loincloth."

William steps back from the man he is addressing and leans his cane against the wall. He shoves his handgun into his trouser's waist and begins to remove his coat. Addressing Florence, he asks, "How long do you think they've been down here?"

"Difficult to tell at a glance," says Florence to William, "though I suspect they can't have been here for too long in that state, or I think we'd be looking at them starting to worsen badly from exposure. Although having said that they are all in a terribly confused state, so who knows. The important thing is to get them out of here and back to safety as quickly as possible."

Drawing on her first aid training she looks as closely as she can, without distressing the dazed people, to try to figure out what has happened to them.

It does appear that they may have been drugged. There are markings on the forearm by the elbow that are indicative of needle marks. Other than the possibly unnecessary surgical amputations, they appear healthy and without disease. They aren't frostbitten and don't look like they've begun to starve, yet.

"Actually there seem to be signs that they may have been drugged," says Florence. "Looking more closely I can see possible needle marks on some of their forearms by the elbow. Otherwise they seem pretty healthy though, apart from what's been done to them."

"Let's get them out of here, then," says Irene. "We'll have to bring them up those stairs. I can't imagine trying to herd the lot of them back along the route we took to get here. We'll have to be careful, though. Whoever put them here still hasn't shown their faces, but they could easily be up there."

"Come on then, let's get it over with." John grimaces but walks into the room, he takes the elbow of the nearest man. He pulls gently, hoping to guide the man out of the gate.

"Yes, as quickly, but as calmly as we can," says Florence. She turns to the nearest woman to her. "Come on my dear," she says, as she gently tries to steer her out.

William demurs on the herding activity, stating, "We need someone to hold a weapon in case we need to protect our rear." He prepares to follow the entire party.

Irene also helps one of the women, guiding her gently by the arm out of the cage.

Doug is not helping anyone, he is disgust with the people they found but keep his opinion to himself. He still holds the butcher knife he took from the previous room in case the one responsible for this menace will appear.

The people are placid, docile, and move where guided with no fuss or confusion. They have to be carefully guided, however, as an accidental bump into the cage's doorway demonstrates.

"What's wrong with these people?" mutters Julia. "I've never see any drug like it."

"I'm not so sure it's an earthly drug," mutters the American.

john frowns at Doug's comments. "Why don't you take the lead, lad? Light the way for us; it's damn hard steering these fellows." As he only just stops his man from walking into the wall.

Irene continues assisting the captives out of the cage, then gathers the aprons from the other room and begins to dress the women.

William averts his eyes while the women are dressed, instead draping his coat over a naked man. His eyes keep shifting to the exits, ready at any point to defend the prisoners.

Doug replies to John and takes the lead back, to the door that leads outside.
One hand shines with the lamp as the other holds the knife.

[Mr. Handy]

Irene notices what William is doing. "The women should have priority for coats and shirts," she says. "The men only need a small amount of cloth or something about the waist."

There are three white aprons, well-starched, and a leather apron.

William nods at Irene. "You're right, of course. My apologies." He strips the naked man of the coat and hands it to Irene.
