IC-Ep 3-The Patel Mutiny(Karin Bauer/Heinrich Kohl)

[Mr. Handy]

"Very well," said General Pryce. He went with Karin and Heinrich out into the corridor, where they met Colonel Indira Patel as she was coming out of the airlock from the tunnel to the central module.

"We have a problem," she said. "Lt. Colonel Bruce has returned, escorted by the Mi-Go. He and the other security officers are coming for me."

"Well, I suggest you surrender to them," said the general.

Karin, hoping to stall the Colonel until the back-up arrives says, "Maam, can I have a word please; I have the results of the General's medical scan."

[Mr. Handy]

"All right, Doctor," said Colonel Patel. "Do you require privacy? We can go in your office if you prefer." She glanced over at the general.

"No, there's no need; here is fine. I'm glad to say that the General is in excellent fitness. He seems calm and collected and I can find nothing wrong physiologically. I think he was badly shocked by the sight of the Mi-Go, as we all were, but he has adjusted." Karin looks over to the General and Sergeant before continuing. "I have the details of the scans here if you would like to take a look at them, Maam." She takes her lap-top from her bag and begins to boot up.

[Mr. Handy]

"There is no time for that," said Colonel Patel. "We have Mi-Go in the base and a security team on its way to probably kill us. Sergeant Kohl, do you think you can get Privates Silver and MacCrimmon to side with you instead of Lt. Colonel Bruce?"

"Begging your pardon Maam, the security team are not coming here to kill us. I'm sure the sergeant will deal with any misunderstandings." Karin looks meaningfully at Heinrich, wishing she had her own mind-reading capabilities. She casts an inconspicuous glance to see what weapons the Colonel is carrying and hopes the security team will hurry up. "Ahh, here we are, these results are very interesting, Maam. See how this graph peaks at the vitamin C levels."

[Mr. Handy]

Colonel Patel was armed only with her sidearm, a standard 9mm automatic pistol. "I don't care to bet my life on that," she said, sighing with exasperation, "and that doesn't take into account the Mi-Go. We need to get to the docking bay. I'll take your word for it that the general's scans came back normal. But remember that we're dealing with aliens here. Whatever's wrong with him might not be detected by our scans."

"Yes Maam." Karin puts the computer away. "We were all going to the docking bay when we met you so we will go with you there now. Maybe if you would like to lead the way, Maam, the Sergeant and I will bring up the rear and to ensure the General comes too."

"Let's go," said Colonel Patel, nodding. "We need to avoid the central module. That's probably the first place Bruce will look for me, and the second place is here. We'll go around the base perimeter." She led the way around the curving hall to the airlock that led to the reactor module, opened the outer door, and entered. She waited for the others to join her.

As soon as the Colonel sets off Karin whispers to Heinrich, "The medical results show the General is completely normal! Of course, I could have read the physiological results incorrectly as they are always subjective but he seems alright; it's the Colonel who is acting a bit strange now. If I was going by the book I would announce the General fit to resume duties as there is no evidence to suggest otherwise; but I don't want to tell the Colonel that until we have some backup in case she disagrees too strongly. What do you think we should do?"

[Dr. Bloodworth]

"I can contact one of the other security staff on a closed channel and get them to make contact with Lt.-Col. Bruce. It's probable at least one of them is in the party receiving him, but anyway. Hopefully, we can determine both what state he might be in and possibly try to determine why exactly it is the colonel is so keen on avoiding him. It's likely just because he was in contact with the aliens, but still... Perhaps we can try to get him to back us up if we're to reinstall the general?" Heinrich raises his eyebrows, seeing if the plan meets with the captain's approval before putting it into action.

"Excellent idea, call them straight away. I'll go up front and keep the Colonel busy. Let me know soon as you've heard." Karin pushes courteously pass the General and catches up with Colonel Patel. "What are your plans once we get to the docking bay Maam? Are we going to evacuate? Only everyone is scattered around the base and it might be a good idea to send a general call out. I don't know what happened to Lt. Barrett once he left the medical bay. And what are you going to say to the visitors?"

[Mr. Handy]

Colonel Patel glanced back at the general, lowering her voice so that there was no chance he could overhear. "I expect Lt. Barrett has brought the fungicide to the docking bay. There will be no evacuation. General Pryce is not in charge any more. I'm going to renegotiate the terms with the Mi-Go, only now we'll be negotiating from a position of strength. I hope I can get the visitors to back me up on this. They seem to have access to advanced technology too, and that might be used to counter whatever the Mi-Go might bring to bear. That transmat capsule of theirs could be extremely useful." She raised her voice and called out. "Sergeant Kohl, get a move on! We need to hurry, or they'll be on us. They can track us through our implants, remember!"

[aine]

"Yes Maam, I'm quite keen to examine Lt. Colonel Bruce too, he may need medical treatment." (Assuming they are still walking) Karin drops back to the Sergeant to see what he's heard on the radio.

[Mr. Handy]

"Sarge?" said Private Robert MacCrimmon into Heinrich's earpiece. "Hang on, the chief wants to talk to you."

"Sergeant Kohl," came the flat voice of Lt. Colonel Bruce from the same channel, "why are you with Colonel Patel?"

Karin walks back up to the Colonel, "Maam, if we are not evacuating why are we going to the docking bay? Surely, if you are considering negotiating with the Mi-Go, we humans should meet up and consider a strategy. I think the visitors have experience with aliens so they may be able to help. And I can check Lt. Colonel Bruce over; see if he has been tampered with. I think we should go and meet them."

[Mr. Handy]

"I believe the visitors are in the docking bay," said Colonel Patel, "along with most of the base crew. And we definitely need to avoid Bruce and his security team, or we're toast. Get a move on, everyone! That's an order!"

"I can't talk freely right now, sir," Sergeant Heinrich Kohl whispered into his communicator. "Just trust me." He hustled the general along.

Colonel Patel led everyone through the airlock, along the tunnel, and through the airlock at the other end.
