Medical Lab - Styx Base, Pluto
0740 GMT - Tuesday, August 9, 2112

Elizabeth Young and Captain Karin Bauer looked over the area of the floor where the Mi-Go had stood and fallen. Karin was unable to find any residue. Brook Davies, Lt. Edward Barrett, Sergeant Heinrich Kohl, and Private Robert MacCrimmon also stood in the lab.

"Attention all Styx Base Personnel," came the voice of General Richard Pryce over the public address system. "This morning we have made contact with creatures called the Mi-Go that live on this planet. They have captured Lieutenant Colonel Bruce, and Captain Desjardins managed to capture one of them and bring it back to the base. The Mi-Go have demanded that we leave their planet and return to Earth, and we shall comply immediately. The Mi-Go is being released to return to its own kind, and they will bring back our security chief. All personnel are to prepare for evacuation. Take whatever essential supplies you can gather and bring them aboard Charon's Ferry. We will depart for home as soon as practicable. That is all."
OOC,Everyone who has not already done so may make a Spot Hidden roll to see if you've found any traces left by the Mi-Go. So far, only Karin has rolled, and she has failed.

Heinrich searches around for some bits of Mi-Go, but to no avail.

Brook couldn't find anything either, but Elizabeth did manage to find a small sample of tissue splattered on the floor near the bed. Karin was able to collect it for analysis.
OOC,Karin, please roll Biology if you wish to analyze the tissue sample. Anyone else may attempt this roll as well, though the base skill is only 1%.

Karin takes the sample and runs it through an analysis, she shows the positive results on the screen and under the microscope. "Hmm, interesting, we have some results. Here take a look everyone, what do you make of it?"

She sighs at the intercom message. "Just when we had some interesting research to do."

Karin's quick action and thorough knowledge enabled her to do a complete analysis of the tissue. The first thing that she discovered was that it biodegraded very quickly, which explained why residue was so difficult to find. Even her small sample would be gone within minutes, but she had enough time to register some very interesting findings. The Mi-Go tissue was like no life on Earth, though it was definitely fungal in nature, at least in part. This meant that fungicides would potentially cause the Mi-Go harm while being harmless to humans. The only such substances on Styx Base were in the hydroponics dome, used to keep the base's food free of contamination. The best way to use a fungicide against them would be to aerosolize it, as a poison gas would act quickly, and it didn't seem probable that they would otherwise consume it. The Mi-Go also bore some superficial resemblance to insects, but insecticide was unlikely to be effective against them, as they did not truly belong to the animal kingdom.

What do you think of this Sergeant? She waits for him to look over the data and her summary of the analysis. "I'm all for a peaceful negotiation but it the mi-go go bad and start turning up the decibels with that mind-trick of theirs we'll want something up our sleeves in return. However, we'd have little control on the effect of the fungicide; it could give them a slight sniffle or wipe the whole lot of them out. An aerosol would only work in a pressurized area so would be useless outside. And um..." She looks at the visitors and draws Heinrich aside:
Heinrich,"I'm afraid I'm not totally confident with the General's stability. I've got no proof or medical back-up for this though. I'm wondering if he might not be so complaisance if he had a secret-weapon against the Mi-Go and decide to attack them. Which wouldn't be good I think."

Heinrich looks over the information about the Mi-Go biology and nods. "I don't know that it would be a bad idea to start coming up with some sort of ace up our sleeves in case things go sour. I suppose we might as well begin stockpiling some fungicide."
Karin,"I was thinking the same thing. Given the alien's abilities, I suppose we can't necessarily rule out that it engineered the attack on itself for some purpose. After all, if they're hive-minded, they likely don't have a good deal of regard for the individual. I thought it was strange that he seemed almost hostile towards our visitors, when he himself was the one who gave permission for them to be released."

"If you do decide you want to make this weapon, Captain," said Lt. Edward Barrett, "I have the chemical engineering skills necessary to turn the fungicide into an aerosol. George Bond could assist. You're right, it wouldn't work in Pluto's thin atmosphere, but it could be just the thing for base defense. The fungicides are kept in the hydroponics module, clear on the opposite end of the base."

Karin nods, "Thankyou Leiutenant, that's a good idea. I'm thinking that small aerosol bottles with hand-pumps would be good for personal defense. Hopefully there are enough to equip everyone. I don't like the idea of a bigger, more aggressive system to use as an attack but you'd better check all this with the sergeant. " She looks at the samples. "I don't think there is enough here for us to test the fungicide on so you might as well distribute the aerosol as soon as you've made it. You'd better hurry; I don't know how long before we're expected to evacuate. I want to pack up essential equipment here and then I'll radio to meet you and give you a hand."
She turns to Elizabeth and Brook, "I'll only be a few minutes and then I can take you to find Mr. Story or back to your blue box if you can wait?"

"I'd prefer to go to rejoin Story," says Elizabeth. "I'm happy to wait while you do other things first. Actually is there any way that we can help?"

Karin smiles at Elizabeth, "Yes indeed, thankyou. We haven't been here very long so a lot of stuff is still packed." Karin points to peli-cases on some shelves. "You can just check that those are full and load them onto this trolley. I'll wrap up the computer and files and we can be off." She starts downloading files onto hard-drives and collects her field equipment into a hard-surface holdall.

"I'll need to bring the fungicide back here, ma'am," said Edward, opening the door. "I'll need to use the lab in order to aerosolise it." He ran across the corridor to the airlock, and the door closed behind him.
OOC,It's only player characters in the lab now, as Robert MacCrimmon now has a new player. Remember that Elizabeth and Brook will need either Heinrich or Robert as a security escort if they go anywhere according to the general's orders.

"Right, will do," says Elizabeth to Karin. She goes to the shelves and starts to check the peli-cases are full, before loading them onto the trolley Karin indicated.

Brook gives Elizabeth a hand, wondering where the others are at the moment, and what is happening.

The packing is soon done. Karin turns to Elizabeth and Brook, "Thankyou for your help. It looks like I'll need to wait here for Edward to get back with the fungicide. If you'd rather find Mr Story before that I'm sure Private MacCrimmon can take you to him."

Upon hearing his name, MacCrimmon snapped back to the present. He had been lost in thought the past few minutes. He'd felt off since Story's crew arrived. "Huh?" he said "Right, let's find Story." MacCrimmon walked over to the door and opened it, waiting for Elizabeth and Brook.

Brook nods at Karen, then moves towards the door. "Where's the TARDIS, by the way? Our blue box. We're gonna need it back at some point."

Karin smiles her thanks. "I think Mr. story went to the main air lock to see the Mi-Go off but you might want to radio to check. Hopefully I'll see you again before you fly off in your blue box." She starts prepping some equipment that might be useful to aerosol the fungicide. It seems a waste to leave all this equipment behind but it'd take too long to pack it all for an emergency evacuation.

"Glad we could help," says Elizabeth to Karin, smiling. "So Brook shall we find Story first? Getting us all back together would be a good step towards getting back to the TARDIS."

With Elizabeth and Brook's help, Robert loaded the medical supplies onto a gravcart, and the three of them left the medical lab heading for the docking bay. That was where Story and Lucius had gone, and it was also where the supplies were to be loaded onto the transport ship. Karin and Heinrich remained behind.
