Halfway across the bridge, Cole starts hearing splashing in the water below and scuffling steps on the railings somewhere further in the darkness on the right-hand side of the bridge.

I peak over the bridge to see if I can make out what made the noise.
38, success I think.

Through the swirling fog below, a dim outline of some tentacular shape swirls and splashs deeply below somewhere upon a matt of pale blonde hair. As Cole stares down at the dark lake waters he hears the sing song wail of a siren blaring from non-existent speakers all around him. There's a sudden surge of adrenaline. A sudden knowledge that soon everything will change. The bridge itself groans, shudders, and a chunk of it falls free and loose to splash heavily into the water below. The bridge may not last. He will need to hurry.

"FUCK!" I scream as I take off in a dead sprint down the bridge.

The bridge shudders as it warps. Concrete shatters, raining shrapnel down, leaving pockmarked holes across the bridge. There's a whine of strained wire and steel as the supportive girders begin to come loose, landing with an almighty crash in the river below and setting the bridge on a terrifying tilt. A set of charred prints run along the bridge, seemingly undamaged in a single path, but as he approaches it the concrete buckles before him. He'll need to Jump to get across that hole.

I desperately try to make the leap across, praying that I won't die here after coming so far.
