The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

"Get me that writing desk", the client said. It seemed like a simple job. Now ghosts are crawling out of your drink, murderers are after your stock, mad Scottish Spaniards (or is that Spanish Scotsmen?) are selling people's legs by the pound, and the Mob reckons you owe them a prize racehorse. If you survive, make sure your commission's intact, 'cos the only thing falling faster than your sanity is your financial prospects...

The Jerusalem is a favourite haunt of racing punters, bookies and touts.

Llewellyn pushed open the door to the tavern, wrinkling his nose to the mixed aroma of tobaco, stale beer and sweat that rushed through the opening. Despite the distatefull odour of the pub, which also contained a hint of the smell of money, the relief from the light drizzle that had appeared since he had left the bookstore was welcome.
As he made his way towards the bar, he glanced around in the hope that he would see 'Minty' his source for all things horsey.

"Minty" is ensconced on his usual stool, wearing his usual loud check jacket with beer-stained cuffs. "Ah, m'lord Llewellyn!" he huffs expansively. "Now here, gents, is a man of breding who appreciates a horse of breeding! I have a hot tip just for you, m'lord, a fellow at the pub knows a fellow in a stable who says that Black Lightning is off his feed, and the steeplechase this weekend too!"

Llewellyn smiles, and makes a mental note of the Black Lightning information. He produces some coinage from his pocket before engaging the barman's attention,

"I'll take a half of mild my good man and whatever this chap is drinking"

He turns to the chequered sports coat wearing Minty,

"I am in search of information, not about horses this time but about punters. One who has recently had a substantial turn of fortune"

Llewellyn waits for the barman to deliver the drinks and move off before taking a stool beside Minty.

"It would appear that some cove named Ricksmansworth won a few grand on the naggs last Sunday due to an exceptional stroke of fortune"

He takes a sip from his beer and carefully, using his imaculate monogramed handkerchief, wipes away any vestige of beer from his upper lip,

"I could have a marvelous business opportunity for such a well favoured chap"

He favours Minty with a conspiratorial wink whilst gently patting his breast pocket,

"Of course there would be suitable recompense for the right information, what"

"Well", breathes Minty, his eyes never shifting from Llewellyn's breast pocket. "I might be able to help you with an address, m'lord. For a small consideration..."

OOC: Not sure how much money I have on me.

With a comradely grin, the sort one bestows on the lower orders, Llewellyn takes his initialed calf-skin wallet from his inside breast pocket. Producing a five spot, but keeping a tight hold on the note.

"Shall we say five now and twenty if the address proves correct"

"He's at the Savoy", Minty states bluntly, his fingers closing on the other end of the fiver. "Enjoying the high life, been staying there with his missus since shortly after the big win. I think they had some house-callers they disapproved of, too."

With a half smile, Llewellyn reases the five pound not into Minty' grasp,

"The Savoy you say, well it would seem Mr Ricksmansworth has some style, if the SP proves right the other twenty spot is yours, old boy"

He carefully places the expensive wallet back securely in his inside pocket, giving it one last pat and making sure Minty was watching,

"I would also appreciate it, old chap, if he wasn't to hear of our little tete a tete"

Taking another mouthfull of his beer, and making a face as he swallowed, Llewellyn makes to leave placing a couple of coins on the bar,

"I say barman, please give this fellow another"

Then turning his coat collar up as protection against the elements, tapping his hat brim in a salute, he moves towards the door and the rain that awaits him beyond.

Where is Llewellyn going now? The Savoy, back to the bookshop, somewhere else?

Once outside, Lewellyn despite the drizzle, spend a few moments considering his options. Mind made up he stepps to the pavement edge and hails a taxi.
Once within he leans forward and gives the driver his destination,

"The Savoy, my good man"
