Geologist and professor at Miskatonic University, one of the leaders of the Starkweather-Moore Antarctic Expedition of 1933. Moore intends to visit the resting place of his one-time friend Professor Percy Lake, who ventured forth on the ill-fated Miskatonic University Antarctic Expedition of 1931.

Douglas is quietly good-natured and very competent, has thin brown hair and small, round glasses that give him a perpetually bookish air.

Nils is the older Sorensen brother, tall with pale Norwegian skin and fin hair that grows down past his shoulders. He is known for his extraordinary economy with words.

Like his older brother Nils, Gunnar is pale with nearly white hair, but the brothers' personalities could not be more opposite. Gunnary is happy and companionable, contrasting with Nils' coldness.
