IC-Ep 1-Pluto Rocks(Edward/George)

Geology Lab - Styx Base, Pluto
0600 GMT - Tuesday, August 9, 2112

2nd Lieutenant Edward Barrett was in the geology lab with Private George Bond assisting him. While most people didn't think this work was as important as the experiments Major Natalia Orlova and Lt. Hu Xiang were carrying out in the astrophysics lab next door, one never knew what one would find. They were looking at an unusual rock sample that Captain Juliette Desjardins had brought back from one of her scouting expeditions, analyzing it to try to determine its composition and properties.

Edward analyzed the rock sample thoroughly. It contained traces of an unusual metal, one completely unknown on Earth. Both he and George looked at the results with interest. Perhaps the other scientists would be able to determine something of the metal's properties.

Before they could do anything further, an alarm began to ring. "Attention!" shouted a voice from an unseen speaker. "Security breach in Tertiary Storage!"

Security breach? Someone must be desperate. There's nothing interesting in tertiary. *mutters Must be more interesting than rocks though*. You going Ed?

OOC,What are we equipped with anyway? Should I be rolling for my character stats or is George rolled up? can I get a character sheet for safekeeping/print? :)

"Whatever's going on," said Lt. Edward Barrett, "I'd bet security is already on its way. I'd sure hate to be the source of the problem when they get there. I'd hate to get caught in the crossfire too. Besides, these rocks are very interesting, George. This sample contains a metal that is unlike any found on Earth. I wonder what uses we might find for it. We'll have to analyze it further. Hold on, I'm getting something on my terminal." He pulled up an image of a rock formation which had slopes that appeared oddly symmetrical. "Captain Desjardins found this while out on patrol. Looks a bit odd, don't you think?"

You are armed with a .357 Magnum revolver and a wrench, and you also carry a tool kit.

"I might be going out on a limb here, but it's not supposed to be symmetrical is it?" George stares at the terminal a bit dumbfounded.

[Mr. Handy]

"No, it most certainly shouldn't be," said Edward. "The symmetry, the smoothness - this may have once been a natural rock formation, but it's been shaped by something intelligent." He opens up a channel to Lt. Colleen Rose in Ground Control. "Lt. Rose, this is Lt. Barrett in the Geology Lab. I had a look at the image you sent me, and that formation has clearly been altered by an intelligent life form of some sort. You should advise Captain Desjardins to exercise caution." He suppressed a laugh. That's like trying to get a cat to come when it's called, he thought. I doubt she knows the meaning of the word.

[Mr. Handy]

"This is Lt. Colonel Bruce," said the security chief's voice from the public address system. "The intruders are in custody, and nobody is injured. You may stand down from alert and resume your normal duties."

[Mr. Handy]

"Lt. Barrett, this is Major Orlova," came the chief scientist's voice from the communicator. "Please send Private Bond to join us in Tertiary Storage to examine the intruders' craft."

"Well, you heard her, George," said Edward Barrett. "Better get moving. I'll analyze this metal while you're doing that."

[Mr. Handy]

"Bond, you there, this is Torres," came the computer specialist's voice from the comm. "I could use some help in Tertiary Storage if you have some time. I'm on my way down there now."

"This is Lt. Barrett," replied the geologist. "Private Bond is already on his way. He's just leaving now."

[Mr. Handy]

"Glad to hear we're all on the same page," answered Private Torres. "On my way."

George Bond left the lab, following his orders.
