Snug like a bug in a rug - (Houngan only)

Post by Dave Syrinx »

Dunn has left the climate room and passed the small restroom on his way up the small set of stairs leading to the roof. Earlier he had tried to get out that way, but the electronic locks as well as the mechanical levers had made it impossible for him to get out. Now, he clearly hears the helicopter. It´s hovering not far from the climate room.

From the readings and alarms the main frame had flagged four ours ago, the ventilation went awry and the halon in the fire system displaced the air - making people unconscious. Then another gas of unknown origin was introduced to the system via an override. That´s when Barry sealed the climate control room.

Spoiler:
If you want Dunn to attempt passing the electronic lock, roll for electronics at half. Should that succeed, roll mechanical repair at half to fix the mechanical levers. That should get him out of the room.

The whirr of the chopper blades was unmistakable overhead. 'Air ambulance' Barry thought, 'Someone must be hurt'. At least someone was coming to sort this mess out. Half jogging up the stairs Barry gave the door in front of him a contemptuous look, he'd been trying the get the dam thing open for the last couple of hours but security at this place was just too dammed good. 'The mall is like bloody Fort Knox' ran through the maintenance guys mind, not for the first time today.

Taking some pliers and a small electrical screwdriver from his tool belt Barry had one last go with the electronic lock... after a few minutes the little red light turned from red to green with a satisfying little beep. 'About time!' The locks control panel now looked more like a tangled ball of string, but at least it was open.

With the noise of the chopper blades now closer than before Barry worked on the final barrier to his freedom, trying to loosen the mechanical part of the door locking mechanism. The limited tool he carried in his belt just weren't enough. In desperation he put all his weight into trying to force the door open but old age was setting in and he just wasn't as strong as he used to be. Realising the door wasn't going to budge Barry played his final card and took to banging on the door with all the effort he could muster, hoping someone on the other side would hear the commotion and investigate

Hearing footsteps outside, Barry stops banging on the door to hear the guys outside get to work on getting the door open. Soon it opens and one man passes him down the stairs, muttering about a line in to the central computer. Barry briefly gets a glimpse of his name tag: Larsen.

Barry is perplexed by his treatment. These guys evidently worked for Umbrella. They have the tags and names on their hazmat suits. Bravo team. So, these guys are the second team? If Barry knew his emergency procedures and chain of command from his service days, Alpha team would have been first on site, with Bravo and Delta covering the rear. These guys are the first he´s heard since the breakdown of the climate system and the false fire alarm.

Good thing these goons haven´t searched his pockets, yet... Those cuffs would be no match for him to pick. Should that fail, the bow saw blade would do the trick. Preparing for the worst as always, he keeps some spare parts in his overalls. As time will tell anyone used to fixing things: Batteries always fail on you when you need them the most, your tools always ware out too soon and nothing goes according to plan!

Still, being cuffed to a pipe like a criminal doesn´t sit fine with Barry.

Up above the helo makes a turn, circling the mall before leaving. Barry sees the pilot gazing down at him.

Barry sees the UBCS crew head down the stairs and close the metal door behind them. While watching the helicopter make a final lap over the store he sees something from across the street to the east, he catches a glimpse of someone moving in an apartment window on one of the upper floors.
Above the rotors noise, a car engine roars from the street below, tires screeching. Some sort of sports car accelerating and taking a turn too fast.

Starting to get loose from the cuffs, Barry twists his wrists as he has learnt by training. He stands up and waves at the helicopter.

His good fortune stands him by as the helicopter pilot comes back, circling the mall and descends to collect one passenger. Breach of protocol, but those snipers would take him out if not obstructed by the Umbrella Halo.

Sniper line of sight and readiness to fire at target #2: Clear visibility. Wind drift accounted for. No problems - it´s a clean shot. Wait, no - I can´t take this shot, Sir. Corporation vehicle is now obstructing the target, Sir!

Barry keeps his head down as the rotors whip up dust from the huge roof. The doors slide open and a friendly voice greets the janitor. "Get in, sir - this is a very bad place to be staying at!"

Spoiler:
Houngan, if you get back and want to continue playing, I´ll consider it. I guess the abrupt greeting with the other players was not quite what you expected. Anyways, Barry Dunn did survive the first stage of this scenario. I will make him available for other players as long as you are AWOL. Cheers and thank you for playing!
