On the road-
"Hey, yeah, that's right!" said Jack. "Good place to spend the night too. We can stay at that school. That way we don't have to travel at night, and tomorrow we can get the rest of the way to Chicago."

Ryuu knew that Omaha was about 200 miles east of here, and he could easily plan a route there. They would probably arrive in late afternoon or early evening, barring delays. If he went north, to the left, he could reach Route 80 and take that east to Omaha. However, that would mean passing through the center of Holdrege to get there. Or he could head south to get out of town and stick to the back roads.

"Hey you were on the bus when it went through Haldrege right? Do you think the bus made a big enough dent that we could drive through the city? If not we'd have to stick to back roads, which of course means we might have to deal with zombies.

On the road-
"The bus didn't go through Holdrege," said Jack. "We're a few miles north of where the bus went. Maybe we'd better go back to the south and stick to the back roads. It's out of our way, but it'll be safer."

"Yeah alright, back roads it is." Ryuu says, stepping on the gas.

On the road-
Ryuu drove south out of Holdrege and across the overpass underneath which the bus had run across the spike strip. It didn't take him long to find an eastbound off-ramp, and he drove through the back roads. About an hour later, he was passing some distance south of Grand Island, where the bridge across the Platte had been blockaded. At that point he got onto I-80, which had been clear during the bus's westbound journey. It was just as deserted heading east, and the trip was peaceful. It was almost 5:00 PM as he passed through the western suburbs of Omaha, some four hours after he'd left Holdrege.

"Okay, I recognize this place," said Jack. "The wrecked National Guard checkpoint is up ahead. The police station is about a mile past that, and the school is another mile further east."

"You said we should head to the school right? That they wouldn't give us any trouble and would put us up for the night?" Ryuu double checks as he begins driving towards the school.

On the road-
"Yeah, but most of the people left the school in that bus," said Jack. "A few stayed behind, and I'm sure they'll take us in if they're still there. And if they're not, we'll have the place to ourselves."

The car approached the wrecked checkpoint, where corpses of National Guard soldiers lay mingled with those of civilians. There were no weapons or other useful items visible; apparently, they had all been scavenged. But Ryuu could feel relief that he had made it across Nebraska and reached a place of safety. If he could refuel and then set out in the morning, he should be able to make it to Chicago during the day. If he could find his family, he could bring everyone back to Omaha where it would be safe.
OOC,What happens in Omaha depends on the actions of other characters who are in Omaha earlier in the day, so I'll have to wait for them to discover what the situation will be when you arrive. This is a good point to end Chapter 7 for you anyway, though it will probably be months before Chapter 8 starts. In the meantime, you can make skill improvement rolls against your checked skills. You can find a list of them underneath your character's name in the Locations and Weapons thread, near the bottom. When you're ready, you can post your rolls in the OOC thread. You'll need to roll 1d100 against each skill, but you want to fail. If you do fail, then roll 1d10. This is the amount by which that skill increases. Congratulations on surviving Chapter 7, and for keeping Jack alive too!
