CH2-09 Malta - everyone together.

A phone call, a ferry crossing and a car journey later, sees the group all together in the otherwise empty communal kitchen of the "Corner Hostel" in Valetta. Greg has secured a twin room for Liz and two four bed rooms for everyone else.

Greg looks tired after a day spent traipsing around Valetta. "I hope you guys have had a more productive day than I did. I reckon if I hadn't been standing at the desk when the cancellation came in, we'd be sleeping on the beach"
OOC:   Greg has created a personal first aid kit which you can wear over your shoulder or clip onto a belt. It allows you to use first aid properly on an injury ie success = D3 hits back, rather than 1pt to stop bleeding.

"Yeah, we found out some interesting things, and Albert got a lot of great pictures," says Liz. She fills Greg in on their day. "It might be worth checking out Gunderson's villa. I'll see if I can find its address online given what I was told about it."

Albert opens up his laptop and starts transferring images from his memory cards to it.

Ok, we can just quickly browse through these as a slideshow and I can mark the ones that are of interest and we can study them in more detail after.

That's a good idea Liz, see what you can dig up on that villa.

Clay sits down and gets some lunch. He keeps one eye on the slide show, but the other on the people around to make sure no one was watching us.

Liz powers up her laptop and goes online to search for the location of Gunderson's villa. "Let me know when the slideshow's ready," she says. "I don't want to miss that."

Greg looks at the the photos and points out the similarity between the old man's tattoo and the carved horse, but is unable to draw any other conclusions from the images. The only other people using the kitchen/dining room are the occasional back packer none of whom arouse Clay's suspicion.
Liz,Computer and Library use please
OOC:   Looking at the photos without some kind of Archaeological knowledge is no better than looking at the ruins its not going to tell you anything.

Liz gains access to the sites where the information she needs is stored and tracks it down with her usual expertise.
OOC,I mixed my Library Use score up with my Listen one, but I still succeeded.

Hacking into the Malta Land registry, Liz is able to pull up the address for the Professor Westerlund. Its a villa on the coast on the other side of Valetta.

"Tada!" says Liz, showing the others the address. "Just call me Lisbeth Salander."

"Great job Liz," Clay says. "We should hit it right after lunch. But lets be prepared. I'd like at least a couple fire extinguishers before we go in."

"Cheers!" says Liz, grinning. "Yeah, we definitely need those extinguishers. We should also case the joint during the day before actually trying to go in, make sure nobody's living there. And if there is someone there, we can just knock on the front door and talk. Prolly the prof is back in the UK, though, in which case we could still talk to him after we return when we're done on Malta."

"I agree, we ought to keep a lookout on the place before we move in. A couple of us ought to drive past a couple of times to find a good vantage point. We better add a pair of binoculars to the shopping list too." Andy adds before taking the last bite of his sandwich.

A camping store quickly provides a couple of hand held CO2 fire extinguishers as well as a compact pair of binoculars.

The profs house is in the village of Zebug just a few minutes drive outside of Valetta (actually almost a the outskirt of Valetta.) Its not really a villa more an old looking town house (old but well cared for) which estate agents would probably describe as having 'bags of Character'.

A drive by, conducted by whoever goes to buy the extinguishers indicates little as the shuttered windows might indicate the professor has returned to the UK, or like everyone else they are closed to keep out the heat.

"Fireproof clothing would be nice too," suggests Liz. "I'd rather not be engulfed in flames again without it. I'd rather not be engulfed in flames again at all, in fact," she adds with a shudder. "While we're staking out the house, I can scan to see if the prof has a wireless network and try to connect to it. And I think I should carry one of those extinguishers. I'm pretty good with them. Killed two of those fire things. One more and I'll be an ace, right?"

OOC:   What's the location like? Is the villa isolated or not? vantage points? Ideally we'd need 'eyes' on the front and back... maybe a 'close pass' on foot to get an idea of possible entry points and an idea of any secuurity.. plus signs of habitation etc.

OOC:   Its not really a villa, its a town house, probably a converted business a mill or bakery perhaps. The house is located on the corner of two back streets which are active, but not overly busy. These narrow Maltese back streets have no pavements (side walks), no obvious place to discreetly park a car, or stand around surreptitiously. The property is surrounded and abutting to other residential properties. There doesn't seem to be access via the back, except through another property. Security wise there doesn't seem to be anything above and beyond what you'd expect of a normal Maltese home (wooden door solid Yale type lock, shuttered windows)

I should add that the house isn't unusually secure, there are hundreds of houses like it, about the only thing which sets it apart from the others near by is it has been recently decorated.

Clay speaks up, "I'm going up to knock on the door. Give me one of the those fire extenguishers. and drop me off. Lets see if anyone is home."

"Sounds good," says Liz. "With those recent decorations, maybe someone is home, even if it's not Westerlund. I'll go along for the ride and scan for wifi."

After they drop Clay off, he straightens up his hair and clothes and walks up to the front door with the fire extinguisher and knocks on the door.

Clay raps smartly on the door and then after waiting a reasonable time does so again there is no answer. To Clay's ear the knock sounds hollow, an empty house perhaps? Looking and calling through the letter box, the house certainly sounds empty and feels empty. Trying the door he realises it is unlocked.
