"I don't fancy trying to carry these stretchers while walking in the stream... If we follow it closely we could move into the water if those flames come too close?" he asks the others.

"Right," says Liz, nodding. "We should also cross the stream so we're on the far side of it from the fire thingy in our path. That way we can at least avoid that one. They never cross streams, unlike the Ghostbusters."

Greg slumps to the ground setting down the stretcher. "Maybe it was all the smoke. I'm exhausted. After a quick rest I vote we move down to the river, we are in no condition to fight another one of these things."

"Remember that rabbit we saw the flame thingy chase on the way up?" asks Liz. "If we could catch one, we could send it off in another direction to distract it and get it out of our way. It's a shame to fry the poor little thing, but better a bunny than us." She looks around to see if there are any rabbits nearby.

OOC:   Rabbits - How would you catch the rabbit in the dark (remember its very early in the morning and still dark) without attracting the flame thingey which is only a short dicstance away.

To the river - You could certainly head off the path and move directly towards the stream, the mountain side is fairly open, there is cover (large boulders, occasional clumps of bushes etc) - whether you were visible to the flame (or any other flames) is open to question, but the same could be said for staying on the path.

How would you catch the rabbit in the dark, hide behind a rock and make a noise like a carrot?

"You're right, we saw it chase the rabbit, so we know it can 'see' somehow.. it reacts to movement.. maybe it's like those burglar-alarm sensors, if we move slowly we may not get spotted? Or maybe we could distract it with noise?" Andy says, not for the first time realising how surreal things are, discussing how to avoid a column of flame.

Crouching in the meagre cover provided by the path, everything is quite except for the Clay's shallow breathing and the occasional groan and jerk from Albert as some melted nerve ending tries to fire off. To your front the column of fire visibly starts moving backwards and forwards across the mountain side, if it wasn't a burning column of gas one might compare its movements to a dog sniffing out its prey,

"How could we make noise that won't be traced back to us?" whispers Liz. "Does anyone have a flare? We could fire it off into the distance. Otherwise, yes, let's try moving slowly and quietly. Maybe we should stay low to the ground too."

OOC:   Can I have a LUCK roll from Andy please
Keeping low to the ground and part carrying, part dragging the stretchers you start to make your way downhill towards the stream. Upslope, the column of fire continues to track back and forth; eventually it starts to move along the path away from you and towards the campsite.

The flame disappears into the wood line above and behind you as you drag the stretchers down to the the stream. By the edge of the stream you can just make out a path (a rather grand term for what is really simply an animal track) Using the path and one one occassion when another flame approaches climbing into the stream you are able to make your way down the mountain side. The sun is up by the time you hit the beech wood with all the carvings. You are all cold, wet and tired from the effort and Greg, Jacob and to some extent Alex are coughing and wheezing from the exertion.
OOC:   From the woods its about a hours walk back to the car.

"I can't go anymore, I have to rest." Greg says. "I think the best plan is to have one or two go get the car and come back for us. They can move faster and we can all get out of this accursed place a lot faster."

"I might be able to make it back to the car before I collapse," says Liz, "but can it make it here? I thought the reason we left it where we did was because it couldn't get any further in this terrain."

OOC:   I'll add that I believe Andy is the best driver followed by Alex assuming they continue at the same pace down the hill and then drive back up, it will probably be past dawn by the time they arrive. However both Greg and Jacob need CON rolls if they are to continue without rest.
