"Yeah, that's prolly best," says Liz. "From the sound of it there were multiple people down that tunnel. After all the trouble we had with just one of those creepazoids, I wouldn't want to tangle with two or more at once. Who's going to make the climb? I'm not exactly an expert, just a talented amateur. I've never done any rock climbing before today. Maria clearly knew how, and she still fell."

OOC:   Just waiting on the others to chime in. I'll give them another 24 hours then we'll move on - I assume to going back to the vent and someone climbing further down into the pit of death.

Not sure that is wise. I have a feeling the bottom leads nowhere but the dead body of Maria if indeed she fell, But if you vote down, than I will hold the rope firmly.

"Well, we do need to find the rest of Professor Gosshamm's final version of his thesis, which she had on her," says Liz. "I'd better hold off on reading it before someone else determines it's safe, though, or I may forgot how to speak English. I'm nervous about climbing down there too, but I'm also nervous about going down the tunnel and confronting the Verbetoi. There really aren't any good choices."

You trace your way back to the room with the vent. Getting out thorough the roof. Is difficult but certainty not impossible with people helping to push or pull as required. You eventually find yourself standing on the ledge while Alex prepares the ropes for the descent.

"Who's going to make the climb?" asks Liz.

OOC:   As Pappa G, doesn't seem to have posted anything anywhere since February, he's basically an NPC, as such he wont volunteer to go down. Just PM'd him.

Alex checks the ropes and harnesses again. Satisfied that they are still secure and haven't been tampered with he says

Ok, I go down and make ropes good for you to follow.

Andy makes room and keeps an eye out for anything that may have followed them from the tunnel system.

"Be careful," says Liz. "I'll climb down second, once the safety line is set up."

OOC:   Alex needs to make a difficult climb roll 1/2 skill and not fumble. A failure just means he spends a long time getting down for one reason or another. Really all he's doing is abseiling down, just like the other pitches. Everyone who follows is simply being lowered.

In the poor visibility Alex finds the rope getting caught on one particular out crop. Twenty minutes later however he finds himself standing among the tumbled boulders at the bottom.

Greg follows the others, the statue about Alexander and how he was working with the Verbtoi, and follows the rest of the group up to the edge.

"I'll go down after Liz," Greg says.

Liz secures herself in the harness and allows the others to lower her into the abyss, watching out for the outcrop.

Andy checks that Liz is all secured before she starts her descent.

"Sure , no problem." he says in response to Greg "You OK? You seem a bit quiet mate." he asks, "Something to do with that statue you were studying?"

"No, I'm ok. Statue just talked about how Alexander helped these people, whoever they are. I couldn't make it all out. My Latin is a bit limited." Greg continues to lower Liz down. "See anything," he asks?

With Alex controlling her descent, Liz is able to use her hands to push of and keep the rope clear allowing her to descend without incident.

While Alex sorts out the descent of the next party member she is able to get a better sense of their surroundings.

Liz finds herself in a boulder-strewn hall, she reckons its ceiling around 5m high (where it meets the chimney) its outer edges completely hidden in darkness. Liz can hear water flowing somewhere in cavern which she reckons is probably an underground stream. While there are no fire or lamps visible, small sparks of light blow around in the cavern almost as though someone out of sight is fanning a fire.
