Return to the Goat

The pub is only about a third populated this time, with little scatterings of people sitting here and there enjoying some early drinking and eating in some cases. "Ah, welcome back," says the man behind the bar. He was the same man who was working the night prior. "Please, help yourself to a table and a waitress will be right with you." Up on a chalk board the specials of the day were written down for your convenience:
  • Bangers and mash.
  • Spiced beef sandwich and chips.
  • Dublin Bay Prawn Brisque.
  • Happy hour: 3 - 5 PM.

Samantha looks around for a table big enough for the group, and heads over to a suitable spot and sits down.

Paul sits down besides Samantha 'im starving' 'all this walking and frustration building up'.
Once the waitress gets there he will order a Spiced beef sandwich and chips and a big soda. Done the meal he will speak to the others 'So this place is haunted ' 'a day ago i would say THAT IS SOME BS!' 'but after today and the fairies i saw im prepared to believe in the strangest things' 'we should all sneak around and take a look you ask me...

Laurence orders bangers and mash. Pub fare might not be the best nor the healthiest, but he's hungry enough not to care. "Sneaking around may be completely unnecessary," he says. "If we ask nicely, they may give us a guided tour."

Samantha orders a beef sandwich and chips, with a coke to drink. "The people all seem willing to talk anyway," she says. "I must say I'm finding it all hard to believe myself, but so many strange things seem to have happened to us already."

Nicholas orders bangers and mash as well with a beer to chase it down. He was going to say something about the townsfolk but shut his mouth thinking better of it.

Pet orders the prawn bisque, and a cider. She rests her leg on a chair, looking around at the other customers, then turns to the group when the talk turns to ghost. "Let's ask the elders of the village, they should know some of the old ghost stories."

Laurence also orders tea to go with his meal. "Yes, an excellent idea," he says.

And so the meal comes, as do the drinks, and the conversations. Though there aren't many people in The Goat at the moment, there are plenty of tales to share.

They are told of one man's sighting of what appeared to be a Roman centurion sharpening his spear only to disappear when one's back was turned.

Another story involves a woman who claims to refuse to sleep in her own home anymore, ever since she was attacked by what she calls 'goblins'. There were at least a dozen, no higher than your knees, thick and ugly, noisy buggers that were just set to cause malice and havoc. (there were no other witnesses to this, nor any injuries as proof... just a wrecked house).

And then, the barkeep who had come out from behind the bar to listen to the stories cleared his throat, "If it's a ghost you be lookin' for... look no further."

When everyone looks up at the barkeep, he points to behind the bar where a ghostly white figure seems content to pour himself a mug of ale.

Nicholas whips out his camera and starts shooting as fast as the shutter can go. He makes sure the flash is off but in a well lit area he opened the aperture instead.

Laurence approaches the bar, making sure to stay out of Nicholas's shot. Wanting to try something out, he faces the ghost and raises a finger to attract its attention. "Good day, Mr. Tarney," he says. "I'd like an ale too when you're done pouring yourself one. I think I could use it."

Paul stands up and carefully watching the ghost tries to get on the oposite side of it and the group.

"Why it's ole Bill Tarmey hisself, it is," Ted, the barkeep responded. "Hey you old coot... why don't ye tell me what the recipe for Black Goat is?"

The ghostly figured turns about, mug in hand, and starts to mouth words ... but no sound comes out. He soon fades from sight - the mug crashes to the ground spilling ale behind the bar.

"I like it better when he's cleaning tables," the barkeep says as he heads back to the back room to fetch a mop.

"I don't suppose anyone can read lips?" says Laurence. "I am curious as to what he said, and whether he was able to see and hear us." He turns to Ted when the barkeep returns. "What manner of drink is a Black Goat? I suppose old Bill Tarney must have taken the secret recipe to his grave."

Nicholas,The pictures do show some strange effects... but nothing like what you saw with your own eyes. Instead of a full-body manisfestation, there is a strange cloud and unexplained streaks of light. You did get a picture of the mug seeming to hover without anyone touching it.
"Aye, Black Goat was his favorite drink, and when he died, it died as well. Shame, it was quite a popular ale," the barkeep said.

Others in the pub seem unimpressed, or simply conditioned to seeing strange things because they've already gone on to eating, drinking, and talking about other things.

Linda Brown rushes in through the door. She looks around frantically and she spots the party at the table. Making her way to the table, she calls out, "Lawrence... Lawrence, you must come quick." She got to the table and held her hands before her, saying, "It's Martin. I'm afraid he's dying!"

"Interesting. I wonder if he'll become a ghost." Nicholas said and quickly downed his drink.
