IC-OMAHA-One Angry Man(Brian Stevenson only)

As day gives way to night, time may be running out for the human race. Warren Air Force Base is still in human hands, but there is a crisis within and what's left of the world risks plunging into nuclear chaos. A small group of captive women hopes desperately to escape from their cruel captors, while another woman is undercover amongst them. Two park rangers at a station near Chimney Rock prepare to weather the night. In a convenience store south of Ogallala, tensions are high as employees, survivors, and criminals try to survive the night. In Omaha, scientists may have won humanity a reprieve, but at a high cost. The zombie outbreak appears to have ended there, but there are still dangers. Will Omaha be a bastion for survivors, or will it descend into anarchy?

IC-OMAHA-One Angry Man(Brian Stevenson only)

Post by Mr. Handy »

Z-Day - 5:48 PM Central Time - Downtown Omaha, Nebraska
On the street-
Brian Stevenson had been running all day. It hadn't been as much fun as he'd thought it would be at first, but it certainly had been exhilirating. He'd been hard pressed to stay alive and one step ahead of the growing hordes of the infected. Their numbers had been small in the morning and he'd easily been able to keep them at bay with his .38 revolver, having quickly learned to aim for the head if he wanted to bring them down. He had also learned that the sound of gunfire drew more of them, and it had been all he could do just to survive. His gun - and his crowbar when they got too close - had served him in good stead, but there were far too many for him to kill all of them, especially since he had gotten low on ammo. The crowbar had also helped him force his way into buildings and pry open anything locked or nailed shut when his lockpicks weren't enough. He took whatever he wanted and didn't care whether its owners were dead or alive.

About an hour ago, everything had suddenly changed. The sweet sports car he had stolen had suddenly died on him. At the same time, all of the infected people he could see had collapsed where they stood. He had also noticed that the power seemed to have gone out, as there were no longer any lights in nearby buildings. While he was glad that the infected no longer seemed to be a threat, and that he no longer needed to worry about alarms going off and drawing a mob when he tried to break into buildings, the loss of his new Porsche was a grievous blow. He had spent the better part of the last hour trying to make it run again, but with no joy. The mechnical parts all worked fine. The problem seemed to be with the electronic ignition, and he knew enough about cars to know that it was beyond repair. It would need to be replaced entirely before the vehicle would go anywhere. And so he had begun to prowl through the nearby deserted streets on foot.

His wanderings had brought him to a commercial district with plenty of warehouses. One in particular looked promising and was in good shape. There were two closed garage bay doors in front, with a normal door just beside them. It was still light out, but the sun was getting low in the sky. Perhaps a little over an hour of daylight remained.

Brian didn't know and didn't care what had happened earlier, instead he just sauntered up to one of the big doors and banged on it with his crowbar "just checking" he said to himself, stowing the crowbar in his belt and fliping out his revolver, checking it's chambers were loaded before pointing it at the personel access door to his right. He waited some time to see if anyone would come out, hoping that there was no reply so he could open the door and check out the contents unhindered.

In front of the warehouse-
There was no response to Brian's knocking on the garage door with the crowbar. After a minute of waiting, he approached the man-sized door and tried it. It was locked.
OOC,Brian, roll Locksmith if you want to attempt to pick the lock. If you'd rather try to force it open with the crowbar, roll STR x 5 instead. Also, roll Listen. The base skill is 25%.

Brian grinned to himself then glanced around, checking that no-one was nearby, before stowing his revolver in his pocket. He heard nothing as he approached the door, frowning as he turned the handle then crouching to inspect the lock. He smiled as he saw what make it was, being a simple key lock as found on most old doors. He reached into his pocket and pulled out two small flathead screwdrivers, originally designed to work on the fiddley little electronics inside a car's dashboard and ignition system. He pushed them into the lock and put pressure on the internal pins grinning as he heard the lock click. Brian removed the screwdrivers and put them back in his pocket, before drawing his revolver and pushing down on the doorhandle, pushing the door inwards. "What's in here the boys!?" he said loadly, partly to himself and partly to sound out the warehouse, hours of dodging zombies leaving him with a lingering caution that while being mostly overridden by their apparent downfall, still held enough sway to make him check each building as he entered.

OOC,EDIT: hey Handy, would Brian have seen any other survivours around or were they all munched before he encountered them?

In the entry hall-
Brian stepped into a long hallway which stretched away to the left. It was lined with doors on either side and another at the far end, but what caught his eye was the pair of tall, dark-skinned men with dreadlocks standing only a couple of dozen feet down the hall in front of the first door on the left wall, which was open. One was tough-looking and carried a rifle, and the other was positively enormous and toted a shotgun. Both weapons were pointed at him. "That's far enough, mon," said the man with the rifle. Brian had enough presence of mind to realize that these guys were probably part of the Marley gang, which did operate in this area.
OOC,Brian had seen a few other normal people this morning, but they were busy getting eaten at the time. He hasn't seen anyone (other than the zombies, who he doesn't know are already dead yet) for several hours. Until now, that is...

In the entry hall-
Brian did the sensible thing and raised his hands. "Easy there, gents," he said with a smile. "Just looking for other survivors."

The two men looked at him, almost but not quite convinced by his smooth tongue. He wasn't normally so good at getting people to like him, but having guns pointed at him had a way of inspiring him. "How did you get in the door?" asked the man with the rifle. "It was locked."

"Drop your gun," said the guy with the shotgun.

Brian complied. "Look, when nobody answered my knock, I let myself in. You're with the Marley posse, right? A guy like me could be useful to you."

"Maybe we could use him, Malcolm."

"You could be right, Lou," said Malcolm. He advanced while Lou kept Brian covered with the shotgun, picked up the revovler, stuck it in his belt, and locked the entrance door. "Okay, mon, through there." He gestured briefly to the open door through which he had entered with the rifle's barrel. "The boss will talk to you when he gets back. Don't try no funny business, or we'll give you a new asshole."

"Okay," said Brian. "I get the idea." He walked through the open door, followed by Malcolm and Lou.

On the main floor-
Brian, Malcolm, and Lou entered a vast warehouse floor. In the center of it were a rusty green Volkswagen minibus and a battered red 1965 Ford Mustang. Another man with dreadlocks, this one with a handgun on his belt, was looking over the vehicles. At the front were the two garage bay doors Brian had seen from outside, still closed. At the back, near a row of closed storage compartments, was another man with dreads. He was just finishing up bandaging the head of a teenage boy with a similar hairstyle who was armed with a pistol. "Thanks, Wesley," said the youth. "You did a good job, mon."

"Any time, Doug," said the man who had patched him up. "You're next, Roy."

Another boy in his late teens stood near them, but this one didn't look at all like he belonged. Unlike the others, he was white and most definitely not Jamaican. He was incredibly big and strong - even his muscles had muscles - and carried an aluminum baseball bat. He also appeared to have been injured, only his injuries were a good deal worse. He winced with every step as he approached Wesley.

Everyone looked in Brian's direction when he entered the room.

On the main floor-
"Hey, fellas," said Brian. "My name's Brian. What happened to you guys?"

"Roy McCrumb," said the big white guy as he sat down next to Wesley, who got to work. He wasn't able to do much considering the severity of the injury, but he was doing well enough. "Got squeezed near to death by a zombie."

"And I'm Doug Marley," said the other youth. "I got beat up by a couple of rent-a-cops."

Brian examined the Mustang. "Nice wheels," he said. "Too bad about the damage. I could restore her for you, if you like. I'm good with cars."

On the main floor-
"I dunno, mon," said Wesley as he worked on Roy. "Damon has to approve it before you go messing with it."

"Don't worry," said Brian. "Give me enough time and I can make her good as new. Better than new, even."

"Look, I don't know you yet. Best to wait to see what the boss mon says."

Brian huffed and crouched, looking over the mustang once more, hoping get a scope of the damage so he could impress this Damon when he arrived.

On the main floor-
Brian gave the Mustang a cursory inspection without touching it. To his experienced eye, it appeared that the vehicle had rolled over. There were dents on the sides and the roof, and there was even damage to the underbelly in the front of the car. The car still seemed usable, but it wouldn't take much more to reduce its capabilities. If he worked alone, it would probably take him about twelve hours to restore it to pristine condition. Hopefully one or more of Damon's guys could help him out. Malcolm and Lou watched Brian closely the whole time.
