Death Toll

As day gives way to night, time may be running out for the human race. Warren Air Force Base is still in human hands, but there is a crisis within and what's left of the world risks plunging into nuclear chaos. A small group of captive women hopes desperately to escape from their cruel captors, while another woman is undercover amongst them. Two park rangers at a station near Chimney Rock prepare to weather the night. In a convenience store south of Ogallala, tensions are high as employees, survivors, and criminals try to survive the night. In Omaha, scientists may have won humanity a reprieve, but at a high cost. The zombie outbreak appears to have ended there, but there are still dangers. Will Omaha be a bastion for survivors, or will it descend into anarchy?

Death Toll

Post by Mr. Handy »

This is a running list of all the characters who have died in Chapter 5 and a short statement for each about how they met their doom. There may be spoilers for threads in which you do not have characters, so read with caution. In situations where I don't want players to realize that certain characters are dead yet, I will delay adding them to the Death Toll thread until such time as I feel it can be revealed. I'll update this thread as the death toll escalates, so check back if you see a character snuff it.

Current through August 17, 2010:
Chuck Lubachek- Murdered Jacob Marley two nights ago and thought he had gotten rid of the body, but the zombie outbreak brought it back to the surface. Jacob's nephew Doug tried to take revenge, but was stopped the first time by Rachel. Officer Kate Wheeler arrested Chuck and locked him up. Darnell and his friends gave Doug another chance, and he snatched the keys to Chuck's cell from Jerry Law. Roy McCrumb then killed Chuck with a single powerful swing of his baseball bat.

Helen Stafford- Trapped in the storeroom when the zombies overran the store, she was stuck down there because Ho and Victor didn't believe in "ladies first" when push came to shove, and they went up the ladder to the roof ahead of her to save themselves. Marcus pulled up the ladder, leaving her stuck, and she was unable to get the vent open before the zombies took her down and ate her - but not before Victor took a shot at her instead of the zombie that had grabbed her.

Marcus Williams- Lost his mind when a zombie approached the store and fled in a panic. Unfortunately, he drove towards the oncoming zombies instead of away from them. He avoided one, but he didn't see the other and zigged when he should have zagged. The resulting accident was fatal.

Senior Airman Sam Wright- Died valiantly defending the entrance to the quarantine clinic from a small swarm of mosquitos from hell. He managed to take a couple of them with him before one of them fatally stung him.

Airman Frank Hodges- Doomed after having been bitten by a zombie just a few miles from the relative safety of Warren AFB, he gave his life to stall for time enough for his comrades to flee when the quarantine clinic was breached.

David- The horny truck driver survived almost everything that the day had thrown at him - zombies, skinheads, zombie skinheads, and even a gigantic worm-like thing. He made it to Warren Air Force Base where he thought he'd be safe. Being locked in a padded cell for his own protection with Zorie Spooner had seemed like a dream come true to him, until his crazed erstwhile friend Colin Lewis, who had been locked in there with them, woke up. Inexplicably, Colin attacked his fellow survivor and killed him with a single kick to the head.

Airman Sebastian Harper- The explosives expert was unprepared for the horrors of close combat with the undead. A former comrade nearly chewed his leg off, and he was finished by a stray bullet fired by Keith Deeds.

Victor Gonzalez- Escaped from prison and thought he had it made, but he was dead wrong. It wasn't the mob boss whose brother he had put down that he needed to be afraid of the most, and his fear ultimately got him killed almost at the doorstep of Warren Air Force Base. When his group had the misfortune to arrive during a zombie attack, the zombies turned and went after them. Kyle flipped the pickup truck, and Victor, who had insisted on riding in the bed of the truck rather than in the Escalade with Joey Milano and company, was thrown right in the zombies' path and left half-dead and helpless. They quickly finished the job. Now nobody would ever find the stolen loot he had buried, which had also not been far away.

Colin Lewis- Seeing some terrible things, including the death of his best friend, pushed him to the very brink of madness. He leapt off when he murdered his former friend David for no apparent reason, then beat the orderly who came to stop him to a pulp and took his gun. He tried to escape by pretending to take Zorie hostage, as he thought she was on his side, though it was all too real for her. A sniper took his life during the hostage situation.
