Z-Day - 5:05 PM Central Time - Brooks High School, Omaha, Nebraska
In the kitchen-
Amelia Delacroix was busy preparing a veritable feast for the survivors at the school, using all of her expertise and her best Cajun recipes. She stirred the large pot of gumbo, sprinkling in spices. As she did, she turned to look at Keith Stewart, who was in the corner stuffing his face with snacks. "I hope you still have room left for dinner," she said. "It'll be ready at 5:30, and it'll be delicious."

Keith licks his fingers and then belches, "No worrys Amy, I could eat a horse - must be all of today's excitement!" He sniffs, smelling the pot and states, "Yeah - 'tis good."

In the kitchen-
Amelia grinned back. "If you like the smell, just wait until you actually taste it," she said. "Shouldn't you be upstairs at that assembly? Almost everyone else is. I have to be here to cook dinner, but you don't have anything you need to do - unless you'd like some cooking lessons, perhaps?"

Keith replies, "Yeah, I 'spose I should go to the assembly. It's bound to be dull as ditchwater, though. I think I'll smoke a joint in the boys' bathroom." Keith affects a casual voice, obviously trying to impress the cook with his devil-may-care attitude.

In the kitchen-
"I will pretend I did not hear that," said Amelia. "It does explain why you have the munchies, though."

Keith chortles like the ass he is, "You know, Amy, I got some Speed tabs; why not mix it in with your gumbo? C'mon, it'd be a laugh!"

In the kicthen-
Amelia frowned, waving her ladle at Keith. "That better be a joke," she said. "Even so, it's in poor taste - and poor taste doesn't belong in my kitchen. See, now that's a good joke."

"Yeah, I s'pose it is," Keith sulks, and exits defeated.

In the kitchen-
After Keith left, Amelia concentrated on preparing dinner, humming to herself.

In the cafeteria-
Keith walked through the cafeteria. Aside from the destroyed barricade behind the counter, it wasn't in bad shape at all. A closed fire exit led outside, and double doors led south, to the east hall.

Out of curiosity he tries to open the fire exit door.

In the cafeteria-
The fire exit opened easily enough; it was only locked from the outside. Otherwise it wouldn't be much good in the event of a fire. Through the door, Keith could see the deserted construction site to the east where the expansion for the school was to be built. Some distance beyond that were Donald's garden and shed, and then the perimeter fence.

Keith wanders toward the construction site, looking for mischief. He lights a cigarette and hums "Whole lotta love" tunelessly.

In the construction area-
Keith walked outside and looked around. The vaguely man-shaped hole in the concrete from which Jacob Marley had emerged was a short distance to the north. The fire exit from the kitchen was no more, but the barricade was in place. Maybe he could give Amelia a scare, but that could also get him a meat cleaver up his backside if he wasn't careful. Then there was the garden. Donald Woodridge, the groundskeeper, hated when people messed with it. Any damage could always be chalked up to the zombies. He was still holding the door open, as it would close and lock him out automatically unless he propped it open.

He scouts about for a suitable prop to keep the fire door open.
The school garden looks interesting; maybe he could torch Woodie's shed?

In the construction area-
Keith used one of the chairs from the cafeteria to prop the door open so he could get back inside if he needed. He noticed a young Chinese-looking man about his own age emerge from Chuck's Auto Body Shop across the street and look around. The youth clutched a tire iron in his hand. Keith could see holes in the school's perimeter fence near the southeast corner where the zombies had torn their way in, and he could easily get out that way.

Presuming he is safe due to the EMP device, Keith hails the Chinaman, "Oi, over here," he says waving an arm. With his other hand he pats his Beretta for reassurance.
[If the man appears unzombiefied, Keith will exit throug a fence hole.]

In the kitchen-
Amelia was too busy cooking to hear anything that was going on beyond the kitchen.
