Z-Day - 5:05 PM Central Time - Brooks High School, Omaha, Nebraska
On the roof-
Dr. Helene Saunders kept an eye on the electromagnetic pulse generator that Adam Donnelly had assembled. It hummed smoothly, emitting a fresh pulse at regular intervals. Though she couldn't feel a thing, she knew that its effects ranged for some distance and made sure that any walking corpses that strayed into its area of effect went down. This device had saved their lives, and the lives of countless other survivors elsewhere in Omaha, and it had to be maintained in working order.
Dr. Saunders also looked outward at the surrounding city blocks. From the rooftop, thirty feet up, she could see reasonably far, though there were plenty of taller buildings that blocked her view. Still, there had been no activity for the last fifteen minutes. She didn't expect that there would be. The EMP had first gone off about twenty minutes ago, and people were probably still adjusting. Most wouldn't be wandering around looking for other people just yet, and those that were wouldn't necessarily head to the school.
