IC-JUNO-A Dark and Stormy Night(Everyone)

As day gives way to night, time may be running out for the human race. Warren Air Force Base is still in human hands, but there is a crisis within and what's left of the world risks plunging into nuclear chaos. A small group of captive women hopes desperately to escape from their cruel captors, while another woman is undercover amongst them. Two park rangers at a station near Chimney Rock prepare to weather the night. In a convenience store south of Ogallala, tensions are high as employees, survivors, and criminals try to survive the night. In Omaha, scientists may have won humanity a reprieve, but at a high cost. The zombie outbreak appears to have ended there, but there are still dangers. Will Omaha be a bastion for survivors, or will it descend into anarchy?

Marcus shrugged to Hector, not knowing the answer. He hadn't seen any of them get up after being dead... all he knew is there were a bunch of seriously ill people infected with some sort of insanity. "Bad mojo, I tell you." He aimed his rifle and the flashlight down at Bruno, watching the man carefully. "You sure he's dead?"

In the store-
When Kathryn tried to lift one bag in each hand, she felt a sudden pain in her wounded left arm and was forced to drop both bags. She had to stop and rest for a minute before she could try again. Victor, Cynthia, and Ho entered from the hall and went over to where the bags of dog food were kept. Emily could only manage one bag, and she lugged it into the short hall.
OOC,Kathryn, due to the critical failure, you were unable to get anywhere last turn. Further, you've strained your left arm and cannot use it to help you lift. You can no longer carry multiple bags, and you will have to roll STR x 5 (which is 35, not 40) just to carry one bag. If you fail, you get nowhere. It will also be difficult to carry out any activities that require both hands. This will last until your arm is successfully treated with Medicine. It's too soon for Emily to try that again, but she can roll to move bags again. Victor and Ho, you may each carry one bag of dog food automatically, either to the back door or the office window. If you want to attempt to carry a second bag at the same time, each of you must roll STR x 5 separately. Lauren is in the storeroom trying to move a box as Emily told her, but she'll be along when she can. I didn't get a roll for Emily, so I rolled for her. Moving bags is an activity that each person does separately. It's only when moving boxes that you can get someone else to help.
In the storeroom-
"Coming, Mom!" called Lauren. She saw that Helen was having problems lifting a box by herself. "Here, let me help you with that." Between the two of them, they managed to carry the box out the door.

In the short hall-
Helen and Lauren placed the box on top of the filing cabinet, reinforcing the barricade, while Emily supported it with her bag of dog food, which was the third in all to be placed there, before going back for another.

On the roof-
"I'm sure," said Duncan as he continued stitching himself up. "He's been crushed to death, and his leg's been bitten clean through. Bruno was a tough guy, but no man could survive that. His femoral artery was breached and he bled out."

Marcus could tell from up on the roof that the man was definitely dead, and he didn't need any specialized medical knowledge to see that. Then his attention was drawn to the north by shadowy shapes moving through the dimness. They entered the brightly lit area beyond the store and resolved themselves into a familiar and terrifying form. Seven more ghouls were now within thirty yards of the north side of the store. Most of them were heading for the front, but a couple were making for the rear. They were advancing slowly, but still relentlessly.

Kyle whimpered in terror when he saw them, frightened beyond reason. Luckily, he was too lunkheaded to panic. "They're coming!" he shouted into the microphone of his helmet as he raised his rifle.
OOC,Marcus, roll Sanity. Sanity loss is 0/1d10. If you remain sane, you have four combat rounds to fire before the zombies reach the store. Please indicate whether you're shooting at zombies heading for the front or the back first. It's normal range, with no penalty other than -5 for aiming at the head, since the zombies are now in the light.

"I´m sorry, I´m no good with this bum arm!" Makes me even fail using my head... trying to lift with a bad shoulder...
To Lauren and Emily she chats as the others carry the bags, "We seem to get in more trouble when we meet other people than when we stay away from civilization. I had a plan earlier on to get a boat and sail out on a lake - to get away from the infected. If we can get a hold of a map to see if there are any larger lakes we could try that?"

Marcus held it together despite seeing these walking ghouls once more. He knew after moving the shelves that the front of the store might be able to handle a bit of damage without threatening those within, but the back door had taken quite a beating. He called out to the others, "I'll go after the ones circling around." He called down in the hole of the roof, "Three out front, two going back."

Marcus took aim at the lead crazy, but his shot went wide, chipping a piece of blacktop out of the parking lot.

OOC,Marcus, go ahead and take your next three shots. I'll roll for Kyle and the other NPCs in my next update, but don't worry, there are more zombies coming behind these, so you won't run out of targets at the back. The initial group has five heading for the front of the store, not three, by the way.

Kat remains on post in the small hallway opening facing into the store proper. "Better hope I can aim better than I count..." She reflects on her ammunition count and says a prayor that she´ll be able to use the rounds before being overrun by the zombies.
With the ladder being occupied, she takes decides to use the bathroom as a possible refuge if things get too hot.

OOC,This is not a full update yet, as Marcus still has three more shots to take. Once he does, then I'll post a major update. This is just to roll Sanity for the NPCs on the roof and have each of them who remains sane take the first of their four combat rounds. PCs in the store who have already taken their actions won't be able to take another action, though Cynthia and Helen may still act. If you haven't rolled STR x 5 to try to carry two bags, you may do so. A normal failure means you only carry one bag. The only risk is if you get a critical failure, in which case you don't get anywhere. Kathryn is the exception, as her arm is injured and she rolled a 100 last time. The ladder is not going to be occupied after this turn, so it is a viable option for Kathryn (she can get into the storeroom this turn). It will become a bottleneck if too many people want to climb up at once, though. The bathroom is not a good place to hole up. There's only one way in or out, so it's easy to get trapped there, and the interior door is very flimsy.
On the roof-
Hector, who had climbed down the ladder a minute ago, began to scurry back up when he heard the shooting start. His head popped over the lip of the hole. Again the sight disturbed him, but he held onto his fragile grip on himself. Alfredo's steady demeanor finally cracked, and he was overwhelmed by panic. The thought of the dead rising - the thought of becoming one of them - broke him completely, and he passed out. Duncan dropped his sutures in terror, nearly losing both his marbles and his lunch. He fumbled for his revolver and fired a wild shot. An empty chamber came up next, indicating that his gun was empty. Harvey screamed like a girl, left completely senseless. Certain of his doom, he shouted hysterically: "We're all gonna die! We're all gonna die!" Joey Milano had seen just a little too much horror today, and he could take no more. In one instant, he knew it all. He was certain that the dead had followed the Escalade here doggedly, and that they would not give up the chase until they had eaten each and every one of the people here. Gritting his teeth, he was overcome with rage. He opened up on one of the ghouls heading for the back with his Glock, scoring two solid hits, one of them excellent. The zombie took two bullets to the midsection, one striking it directly in the heart, but it kept on coming. Kyle shot the other one in the head with his M-4, dropping it. "Wow, this gun is really good!" he said.

As the six remaining ghouls shambled towards the store, six more figures shambled out of the surrounding darkness to the north. Most of them were heading for the front behind the other five zombies ahead of them, but two were nearing the back instead.
OOC,After the first round, one zombie in the back is dead. The other has taken 27 damage to the chest and needs a total of 13 more to stop it (or 10 to the head), but two more are visible some distance behind it. Five zombies are leading the way to the front, with four more visible a ways behind them. Marcus, go ahead and take your next three shots.

Counting Note,In stressful situations and poor illumination, it's not unfathomable that Marcus only saw three out front, so I won't go back and edit my post.
Note about the front of the store,Just as a reminder, the windows have been painted black except for some 3x5" index cards that are taped to the window allowing several places for you to pick up the card and peer out.
Shooting,3 shots to the head (50%) (1d100=5, 1d100=26, 1d100=100) - so one impale, one hit, and then a jam (or a dud)... not sure which. Damage for impale and damage for other shot (2d8+2d8=6, 2d8=10) - figures, the impale did less than the other shot.
Marcus cocked his rifle and took aim, practicing steady breathing and gentle squeezing of the trigger this time, and this time hit pay dirt with a shot square between the eyes, but the damage was minimized as the bullet ricocheted off the forehead at an angle. The big black man grunted with frustration, cocked his weapon again, took aim, and shot again. His second bullet was more cooperative. He cocked his weapon again and pulled the trigger a fourth time, and was rewarded in his efforts with an unimpressive 'click' as the weapon misfired.

On the roof-
Marcus obliterated the head of the zombie closest to the back door, and its headless body collapsed. Kyle started shooting at the next one, but only one bullet struck home. The ghoul fell to the ground, but it continued crawling and was only ten yards from the back. Duncan reloaded his revolver fully, while Hector emerged from the hole and scampered onto the roof, unslinging his shotgun. Joey kept shooting widly, seven rounds finding their marks. The zombie in the back that Kyle had not shot at had its brains blown out and was destroyed. Then he peppered the crawling ghoul with lead, finally putting one in its head through sheer chance.

More zombies had come out of the night during the shooting. The third wave consisted of ten more, four of them heading for the rear. Three more followed, all moving to the rear. Then a flash of light turned night into day for a split second, and ten more walking corpses could be seen bringing up the rear. Only three of those were heading for the back; the others were going for the front. A mighty roar of thunder followed a few seconds later.

"They're here!" screamed Harvey at the top of his lungs.
OOC,We're now in individual combat rounds, so you only get one round. Marcus, you can go ahead and shoot once. Five zombies have already reached the front of the store and are no longer visible. It would take two full rounds of moving (without shooting) to reach the front and be able to target them. The four behind them are less than ten yards from the store and are visible for this round only. No zombies are close to the back door at this point. Six are 15 yards from the front of the store, and four are 15 yards from the back, 3 are 22 yards from the back, 3 are 30 yards from the back, and 7 are 30 yards from the front. While the front windows have been painted black and no light is visible inside, they could not be soundproofed. The zombies may have heard the activity within the store as they approached. So far they haven't broken the windows or attacked the barricades.
In the store-
Cynthia could only manage a single bag with her meager strength. She dragged it down the hall and followed the others into the short hall at the back. "I'm coming!" she called.

In the short hall-
The four people carrying bags placed them to support the barricade at the back door, making a total of seven bags in addition to the filing cabinet and the box. "We've got some maps from the RV out in the pickup truck," said Lauren. When the shooting started and Emily warned her, she hurried with her, Cynthia, and Helen into the storeroom, leaving Kathryn, Victor, and Ho in the hall.

In the storeroom-
The three women entered just in time to see Hector Salazar climb through the hole and onto the roof. There was a tremendous roll of thunder.
OOC,Only one person can climb the ladder per round. If more than one of you wants to climb, the one with the highest DEX gets to the ladder first. Due to the arrival of the zombies and the ensuing panic, you'll need to roll DEX x 5 to get up the ladder. Otherwise, you'll only be partway up and will have to try again next round. Kathryn will need to roll DEX x 4 when her turn comes due to her injured arm, but she cannot climb this round - she would need to enter the storeroom first.

Marcus had a jam in his weapon. With the skill of a master armsman or one with military training, he clears the chamber in record time and has the weapon back down and aiming once again. "All this water isn't any good for my gun," he says to the others.

He calls down the hole, "WE GOTS LOTS OF THEM OUT HERE!"
