Netrunning

You enter in the matrix. There isn't much to see in the local connection in Greenland; just some kids who are chatting or seying porno. So you go to nightcity. You know a person who is specialized in strange knowlege; his place is far from the center, and it's a replica from the colonial houses of the XVIII century.

Patrick heads for the old replica house, certain that he'll be able to recognize the different architecture, since it stands out from its surroundings.

You arrive at the adress. Several modern houses are there... and a colonial house also.

Patrick walks up to the front door of the colonial house and knocks on it.

A butler opens the door.

"Hello," says Patrick. "Is your master in? I have a question that I believe he can answer."

-Please come in. Master will be soon
After less than a minute, a hyper-realistic avatar representing a man in his 50's appear.
-In what can I help you?

"I'm looking for information on the Sleeper of N'Kai," says Patrick. "It may have some connection to ancient Greenland."

He look at you for a moment and then answers.
-Funny, I didn't hear that name for a long time. No, it is not. N'Kai is a mythical land that is home for some strange creatures. At least that's what believe some cults. And Greenland is a frozen place. Well, used to be.

"Really?" says Patrick. "Where have you heard of N'Kai before, what cults are interested in it, and what do you know about it?"

-Mostly of the psychotic and deranged type. I knew one once, he was completly insane but was quite scaring. Anywhay, he told me than once before mankind, some strange Gods lived in earth but now they are slleping but will awakens one day and destroy humanity. And they are sleeping in N'Kai. It's all rubish of course, and you won't even find any references in the net. But I read in a old manuscrit the same name. Unfortunely, it was stolen.

"It wouldn't surprise me if that cultist was the one who stole it," says Patrick. "Do you remember his name, and the name of the manuscript?"

-Probably. He told his name was Armand Duillon. I investigated and nobody existed with that name. The book was liber Ivonis or something like that.

"I'm sure he used a false name," says Patrick, "but what did he look like? And what avatar did he use, if any? Maybe I'll spot him somewhere, you never know. Do you know if there are any other copies of this 'Liber Ivonis' out there? Does an online version exist?"

-I actually met him personnaly, he didn't seem the type of using much the net. His head was completly shaved, he had coold blue eyes, but they didnt stop moving in a very nervous way. And his conversation was dificult to follow. And no, there isn't an online version. But I know that the University of Arkham has a book with a similar name, Book of Eibon. Only problem, it has access restricted.

"Thank you," says Patrick, knowing that it might not be that much of a problem. One of the professors on the expedition might have access to the book, or perhaps one of their colleagues back in Arkham would. "Is there anything else you can tell me on the subject?"

"Okay," says Patrick. "Thanks again for your time." He shows himself out and returns to the real world.

Patrick enters the expedition's site, looking around for any signs of intrusion and checking his Watchdog program to see if it has detected anything. He searches for weaknesses in the defenses, but he isn't quite certain where best to look.

OOC,Mr Handy, since this is the first combat we are doing, I'm making all the roll and uses of programmes, so you may know what to do in a next time. PS. It's a bloodhound you have, not the watchdog.
Suddenly you heard the scream of the bloodhound. He is looking with his red eyes to a lizard (a netrunner); he call imediatly a man dressed with a smoking; you recognize it as a "Alfreet" a demon program (it can carry other programmes) using the "stealth" programm. You are disapointed, because the "stealth" only works to conceal against other programmes, not against people.

Your betaflatline is working perfectly. You steped and the lizard sees you. So you attack him
http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2468727/
From your fingertips, a beam of green neon hits him, and you see him disapeared. He will have to replace the interface of the cybermodem.

After some time you get suspicious. This was too easy. You decide to enter the data base, pass the datawall and you see that another runner is trying to break the filelock! You use your betaflatline again... and you winn!

OOC: I have commited a mistake: I have writen that betaflatline is "2" but it's "3" but you have pass anyway, even if it was close.

OOC,Thanks! I'd forgotten which programs I had; it's been so long since I picked them out.
Now that the netrunners have been defeated, Patrick checks the Bloodhound's log to try to determine from where the attack had come, and then sets to work seeing if he can repair the site's datawall.

OOC: The all operation has tacked about 3 minutes. By the way, I'm thinking of changing the comnbat in the net, to include the skills from the netrunner, and not just the strenght of the programme, what do you think?

The runners were from Detroit.
It will take you 5 successeful rolls to get the data wall again (and several hours!).

OOC,That sounds interesting. Which skills would be used in combat? Is there any way to further narrow down the origin of the attack?
Realizing that it will take a very long time to rebuild the datawall and reasoning that another attack in the matrix is unlikely to happen immediately with both of the hostile runners' cybermodems fried, Patrick jacks back out to fill in the others on what happened and do his part to defend against the attack that's coming in the real world.

None of the others groups have returned (it takes some time to travell on foot). The professors are discussing if it is not better to go to the abandoned city than to stay in a open place like that.

Patrick reports what happened in the matrix to the scientists. "I caught two runners attacking," he says. "They had some expensive programs, but they weren't expecting to run into me. I used my flatline to knock out the first one and wreck his cybermodem. Then I saw that the datawall had been breached, and inside was the other runner trying to crack our files. I stopped him with the flatline before he could. The Bloodhound tracked them to Detroit. It will be a while before they can mount another attack, as they have to repair or replace their cybermodems, but the datawall is still down. I can fix it, but it will take hours, and right now we have to worry about the physical attack that's coming. I'll help however I can in our defense. If you think evacuating the camp is best, we can do that, but I don't know if there's time." He tries again to call Vance on his phone, hoping he can get through.
