Investigator Phase 8

Action 1: Move to Darkened Hall, taking 1 damage from Swarm of Rats.

Action 2: Move to Back Alley, taking 1 damage from Swarm of Rats and 2 damage from O'Bannion's Thug.

Action 3: Resign.

Wendy danced away from the rats. She found sanctuary upon an armchair, pausing her chaotic flight and agreeing with Sefina as she quickly outlined her plan. Wendy drew forth the teddy bear from her cardigan pocket and moved its paw in farewell. "Mr. Pawterson wishes you Godspeed and knows that he will see you again."

She leaped down off the armchair, yelping when one of the beasts nipped at her ankle, and raced out the door.

"And again!" roared the thug in the Darkened Hall. "This time I'll break you for sure!"

"Big nose! Spotty face!" incited Wendy, trying to draw him away from her new friend. And it worked, too. The thug chased after her, managing to swipe her extremely hard across her back with a cosh--a billiard ball inside his sock. She was propelled through the door and into the Back Alley where she ran for her life, praying that Sefina would play Hopscotch with her and Mr. Pawterson soon.

Turn 8 Investigator Phase

"Wendy, run!" calls Sefina as one of the unconscious mobsters wakes up and clamps an arm down on her wrist.

"Not so fast, toots!" says the mobster, rising and seizing her. He licks his lips, leering at her. "I ain't even got to know you yet."

"Dr. Morgan, help!"

Dr. Morgan finally comes to his senses, springing to his feet. "Unhand the young lady this instant!" he demands.

"Stay out of it, egghead!" The gangster glares at him. "I- hey, you took all my money!"

While he is distracted, Sefina slips out of his grasp and grabs Dr. Morgan by the hand. She sees that Leo has already left, which was smart of him. "Let's get out of here!" she says, bolting with him into the hallway and slamming the door behind them. They hurry out the still open back door that Wendy had used, where the other goon and the rats are still looking around for her. Sefina and Dr. Morgan slip off into the night to find her.

Fast Action: Spend 2 resources to play Elusive. Disengage from Mobster and move to Darkened Hall. Action 2: Move to Back Alley. Action 3: Resign.

Resolution 2: “What in the world...?” Dr. Morgan finally breaks out of his daze as you make your way to safety. You ask him what he remembers, and he sputters and shakes his head. “It’s all a haze,” he explains, visibly exhausted. “I was having the run of my life! Perhaps I had one too many shots. But, those creatures—I haven’t seen anything like that since...” He trails off, and you can tell that his mind is racing. His eyes widen with realization and his face pales. “I may not be in the best shape, but I’ll help with your investigation. Whatever it takes.”

In your Campaign Log, record that the O’Bannion gang has a bone to pick with the investigators.

In your Campaign Log, record that the investigators rescued Dr. Francis Morgan. Any one investigator may choose to add Dr. Francis Morgan to his or her deck. This card does not count toward that investigator’s deck size.

If any player “cheated,” add 1 squid chaos token to the chaos bag for the remainder of the campaign.

Each investigator earns experience equal to the Victory X value of each card in the victory display.

Proceed to Scenario I–A: Extracurricular Activity.
OOC:   That's a paltry 3 XP!

Image ideal should anyone choose to take Dr. Morgan.

OOC,It's a shame that we have to deal with the squid token because I "cheated," but we were running out of time and resources. I'd tried to play it straight, but I just had bad luck. I'll take Dr. Francis Morgan if that's okay with you, as I only have one other ally in my deck, and the extra combat would help me (your deck isn't very fighty). I don't think Charisma is that useful to me. While it fits thematically, the odds of me drawing Leo, Dr. Morgan, and Charisma all in one game are pretty low. Chances are I'll only have one ally at a time anyway, and if I draw both, I probably won't also have Charisma. I'd like to take Sure Gamble with my 3 XP. I'll replace Pickpocketing.

Extracurricular Activity

Dr. Armitage is worried his colleague, Professor Warren Rice, might be in trouble, so he has asked for your help in finding his friend. He seems unreasonably nervous about his colleague’s disappearance considering Professor Rice has only been “missing” for a matter of hours...

OOC,Flare is powerful, but when you use it up, do you get back the XP you spent? The combat ability is exactly as effective for you as Backstab, but slightly cheaper.

I've made a mistake, I drew the Basic Weakness "Indebted" for Sefina. It is a Permanent card so should have been in play last game. What to do? Put it into play from now or choose again?

OOC,Indebted is terrible! That would have completely messed up the scenario, as I wouldn't have been able to play Leo right away (or maybe not at all). Of course, since the Basic Weakness is supposed to be a random one, and I don't think I'm supposed to know what it is until it gets drawn, I don't know how we were supposed to know. I'd rather just select a different random Basic Weakness.

I've done a bit of digging and I do think that you are supposed to know what your Basic Weakness is, and in the case of Indebted it should be in play from the start. Until now I had added the card, unseen, to my decks, but thematically this doesn't make sense: An Investigator should know his weakness--Sefina's could be buying too many shoes...

Going back to your point about Leo and resources, it's no matter because we won the game comfortably. It would have taken Conglomeration of Spheres 2 turns to reach the hallway, which is a spare 8 actions...

OOC, "There is no such thing as too many shoes." That's a great draw, but I'll have discard a couple of cards. Clarity of Mind is an easy call for a discard, but for the other, I'll have to lose Opportunist. The others are just too good to throw away. I'll put Ward of Protection, Emergency Cache, and Sneak Attack under myself, and keep the remaining eight cards. I don't have time to update the Investigators thread tonight, so I'll have to do it tomorrow night.

Orne Library -> Miskatonic Quad -> Humanities Building

The Orne Library is well known for its collection of rare occult books and grimoires. It’s possible Professor Rice came here to research in private.

Miskatonic Quad [Sefina, Wendy] -> Orne Library -> Science Building -> Humanities Building -> Student Union -> Administration Building

The Miskatonic University campus is beautiful, in a dreary sense. Surrounded by fences and gates of wrought iron, you can’t help but feel as much a prisoner here as a guest.

ImageImage

Science Building -> Miskatonic Quad -> ?

The science building is one of the larger buildings in the university, its three doors dominating the eastern side of the campus. Although most of the halls are dark, you can see a lit window in the basement.

Humanities Building -> Miskatonic Quad -> Orne Library

The humanities building contains the departments of History, Philosophy, and Languages, to name a few. Professor Rice was last seen here, teaching one of his Latin classes.

Student Union -> Miskatonic Quad -> ?

The Student Union contains a cafeteria and a lounge in which students can gather.

Administration Building -> Miskatonic Quad -> ?

One of the oldest buildings on campus, the administration building can be found shrouded in shadow near the eastern end of the campus. It is almost entirely covered in ivy.

Wendy's cold fingers found their way into Sefina's hand; Sefina could feel them trembling.

"Not very nice here is it?" whispered Wendy. The tree's bare winter branches whistled when a sharp wind flew across the quad, and it ruffled her already unkempt hair. "Where shall we start looking for Professor Rice?" Moments before, a lanky, bleary-eyed student had replied that he'd seen several hours before the Professor in the Humanities Building.

Sefina gives Wendy's hand a reassuring squeeze. "I'm sure it will be lovelier in the spring," she says. "I will start in the Humanities Building and then check the library. I think we can find him more quickly if we cover more ground and split up. Perhaps you can look around in the other buildings."
OOC,My plan is to play The Painted World as an Emergency Cache, then spend 6 resources to play Leo. With my third action, I'll move to the Humanities Building and see what's what. For my fourth action, I'll probably play my Flashlight if it looks like I'll need it there. If I go first, then what I discover may influence where you decide to explore.

"Oh yes! the spring: daffodils, cherry blossom..." said Wendy, looking into the far distance as she spoke. "Right," she said with determination, "if you find him I'll join you, but if not I'll try elsewhere. Mmmm, maybe the Student Union--they may serve puddings," and she licked her lips.

Turn 1 Investigator Phase

A familiar-looking man strolls up. "Evening, ladies," he says, tipping his hat.

"Leo!" says Sefina. "It's good to see you again. What are you doing here?"

"I heard you were collecting professors, so I thought I'd help out."

"We'll, we're looking for Professor Warren Rice. He was last seen in the Humanities Building."

Leo takes her arm and flips a nickel over to Wendy. "Here, kid, buy yourself a treat." Then he escorts Sefina to the Humanities Building.

"Did you give her the nickel just so you could be alone with me?" asks Sefina.

"Can you blame me?" asks Leo as they enter the Humanities Building. "Sure is dark in here."

"Fortunately, I came prepared." Sefina takes a flashlight out of her handbag.

Wendy's hopes of a sticky pudding were dashed when she entered the Student Union. Various young adults lounged around smoking: dinner had long since ended--the serving hatches were closed and the clatter of washing-up could be heard. She wandered about looking for the Professor, thoroughly searching and asking the students questions. She even tried the doorknob to the Dormitories but found it to be locked.

"Seen Professor Rice?" Wendy said to a lazy-looking individual. She added: "I'm his niece, you know."

The student sized up the ragamuffin and drawled: "Really?"

She ran her hand round a half eaten bowl of apple crumble and then licked custard off her finger. "Really," she answered, explaining nonchalantly, "Fancy dress party."

God! he was rude; Wendy wished that she could pop slugs into his pocket. But she did learn of a few useful clues.
