The trip takes less than 1 hour. The lanscape turns melancolic: swamps, small dwarf trees and no signs of any house. It's like you wqere entering in a completly new state. Olsen who isn't exactly the most loquatious man, seems a bit depressed (or worried with his man?).

During the ride, Alyssa had told Luke Olsen the details of everything she had learned in the library. Now she sits with the maps of Innsmouth and the surrounding area, helping to steer a course to Innsmouth. "This place sure is a dump," she says, staring out the window. "You'd think with the gold mine they're supposed to have they could afford better, but maybe it was tapped out a long time ago. We could try looking for Zack around the warehouses near the harbor. Jack said if we just look around we'll find him eventually. He might have seen where they've taken Manuel. We could also try talking to Rebecca Jones first. She probably doesn't know what happened to Manuel, but she should be a good source of information about Innsmouth and at least we know where to find her: she lives in the house next to the ancient Congregational church, near the center of town. It might be a bit late to call on her tonight, but we could try her place first. Otherwise it'll only get later and we'd probably have to wait until morning. It might be best to see her at night, actually. Less chance of being seen by the locals. They already don't trust her, and if she were seen talking to us it might cause all of us problems."

-It is better that we go first to the warehouses looking for the old man. We can always tell that we were lost and asking for some informations.
Finally the town. It is really decrepit. Houses in bad shape, others in complete ruin. It is very late, so you don't see anyone in the streets. You pass what it must be the center, and arrive at the docks, with some old warehouses.

"All right," says Alyssa. "Let's just drive around the warehouses and keep our eyes peeled for him. We might also meet up with your crew in this area. When we find old Zack, we might want to offer him a bottle to help loosen his tongue." She peers out the window as the truck drives through the darkened alleys, looking for anyone in the shadows or doorways, but it's too dark for her to see much.

"That's right, we're from Arkham," says Alyssa. She lets him get a good look at her face. "You don't really think we look like the people around here, do you? I'm Miss Alyssa Valentine and this is Captain Luke Olsen. We met a man back in Arkham who said his name is Jack. He used to live here and told us he knew you."

"Why, thank you," says Alyssa. "The reason we're here is that three men from Innsmouth came to Arkham and did some awful things. A Portuguese sailor named Manuel, one of Captain Olsen's crewmen, won a dagger gambling and sold it at a shop in Arkham. These men kidnapped Manuel, and they also broke into the shop and stole the dagger. Here's a picture of it that belonged to them." She shows him the painting of the dagger. "They went by the names Jim, Jack, and Brad Gilliam. They carried Manuel out in a large sack and drove away in an old Model T this morning, and we think they must have come back to Innsmouth. Jack thought they might have locked him up in one of these warehouses, but we need to find and rescue him before it's too late. We've heard about some of the terrible rituals they do here. Did you see anything that might help us find out where he's being kept?"

Alyssa kneels down to help Zack, careful not to get any of the vomit on her, but she doesn't know what she can do for him and hopes he is just drunk. She looks up at Luke. "Can you do anything for him?" Then she returns her attention to Zack. "Gilliam probably wasn't their real name. It might be Gilman. Are you going to be all right?"

-I'm ok, just need a drink to get better- he says, cleaning his mouth with the hand- so, what were you asking about? Gilman? Probably, but they weren't smart enouth to create a complete new name. The Marsh use 3 member of that family, I don't remember their names, When they need some muscle job. They a bit dumb, but they just look weird and not complete abnormal like others of the family (more vomit).

"That sure sounds like the same three guys," says Alyssa, helping Zack back on his feet and supporting him - from behind, so his vomit doesn't land on her. "Captain, have you got any water for him?" She addresses Zack once again. "Maybe it was Marsh who gave them the false name to use, since they're not clever enough to think of it on their own. They sure were foolish, leaving clues that pointed right back to them - and to Marsh. We even found pieces of a letter that they failed to completely destroy instructing them to obtain the dagger, signed with the initials R.M. I'm sure the M is for Marsh, but I don't know which members of the family have first names starting with R."

I was hoping you'd seen them return, or at least that you'd know which warehouse they would lock someone up inside. We don't have time to check them all. Is there anything you can tell us that will help us narrow it down? A man's life is at stake, and we'll reward you if you help us save him."

Alyssa hands Zack some tissues to wipe his mouth. "Have you got an empty bag he can use, Captain?" she asks. "Zack, what can you tell us about the ceremony? Do you know where it will be held, and at what time, and what will happen there?" She has a sinking feeling that the cult intends to sacrifice Manuel at the ceremony, but three days is at least a lot more time than she had previously thought they had to rescue him.

OC- Ok back in. Kabuki- I assume that Bruno is with Luke. Is Felix and Karl along for the ride as well? I had hoped to send the boat along shore to a safe harbor where, if there were trouble with the group in Innsmouth, Luke or Bruno could fire a flare to draw the vessel to shore. Wasn't quite sure if Felix was along for the ride. Also, I assume its afternoon or early evening?

IC- Luke looks around for a bag in the truck while Bruno keeps an eye out, fishing out a bottle of whiskey from the truck. Bruno pours out a shot's worth and hands it to Alyssa. "This might calm his stomach a bit."

Luke nods. He says to Alyssa, "Might be a good idea to get him away from this place. I don't like the idea of drawing a crowd."

As Bruno hands over the shot of whiskey he asks the old man. "Where do you think we can find these Gilliam fellows?"

Olson ponders this. He should have brought Bruno and Felix. The best lead, so far, is the three brothers. But if they are to approach, then better to approach strong. He curses his choice not to bring his crew. He looks to Alyssa. "I don't trust this Rebecca person. She could be a plant or a sympathizer to these people. But I don't like leaving this fellow out here. Given the hour, I don't like the idea of going into town this late. We don't know the layout and we're obviously strangers. Ideally, they'd all be asleep, but chances are we'd draw attention with the sound of the truck."

Turning to the old man, "Is there a house, a family or a home, that we can take shelter for the night? Perhaps on the outskirts of town?"

Luke shakes his head. No reason to think the old man isn't being deceived as well. He pushes the issue again to Zack. "Is there anyplace nearby, maybe on the outskirts, where we can lay low for the evening?"

To Alyssa, "Perhaps by morning I can get word to Bruno and Felix to get here double quick. It would be better for us if we approached these villians from strength."

"I'm so sorry," says Alyssa, placing a gentle hand on Zack's shoulder. "That's why these people have to be stopped, so nothing like that can ever happen again. I think the sounds coming from the warehouses might be the activities of living people. Are there any in particular from which sounds are often heard? I don't know much about what happened in 1846. I did some research before coming here and found back issues of the Innsmouth Courier, edited by a John Lawrence. They began in 1834 and ended in 1846. The last issue mentioned that Obed Marsh and his followers were all arrested and sounded very optimistic, but obviously things took a turn for the worse - especially considering that there were apparently no further issues of the newspaper. Do you remember anything about what happened in Innsmouth after that point?"

-Oh yeah, I remember some things. We were finishing dinner. And then we heard gunshots. My father got pale. They were screams and more gunshots; my father taked a rifle, and he ordered me and my mother to hide in the room. Some time latter the door was smashed- Zack stop for a moment and then resume the story- we heard a shot and a scream. My mother hide me under the bed; after some time I head several things entering the room; I heard my mother scream and hit the ground fainted. There were voice... if you can call it voices. They dragged my mother, and I never saw her again. The gunshots continue until near the morning they stopped. I stayed under the bed until the sun was raised. They weren't any bodies to be seen, but the city was pretty damaged. All my cousins had disappeared. The official explanation was that the plague had killed all those people. And some time latter, some strange marriages started to happen. Brides from some forsaken island, but you never actually saw them. The kids who were borne from those marriages were normal... at the beginning. After some time they had a horrible look. And then they will marry and die. Some started to say it was God's punishment and they will disappear; but their number is increasing, and ours is diminishing. I never married, didn't want to have one of those horrible kids.

"Thanks," says Alyssa with a smile. "In my line of work, it pays to be observant. I had been thinking we could all shelter in the newspaper building until sunrise, but with the roof in bad shape that's not such a good idea. Still, we might find something of interest inside. Maybe John Lawrence left a journal or something behind. I think it's worth checking out as long as we're here. We'll just have to take care. You want to come in with us, Zack?" She figures that Zack hasn't been sacrificed because, as he said, the order leaves people alone who don't interfere, and he hasn't, but she knows better than to point this out. She always gets fuller answers out of people she interviews when she doesn't ask leading questions.

Luke will inspect the lock to see if there is any indication of a trap. Then he will examine the building to see if there is any other way in. "We could force the lock, but it might cause a bit of noise. In any event, breaking the lock would sure suggest that someone unwelcomed had turned up. Might be better if we go in through a window."

Luke helps remove any dangerous shards of glass and then peeks into the building. "Shine the light inside, so we can have a look." He says to Alyssa. Luke also checks to see where Zack is, making the sure the old man has not wandered off and collapsed.

Alyssa shines the flashlight inside and closely examines the room on the other side of the window, making sure the light only goes inside and isn't visible from the street. Climbing in there won't be a problem for me, she thinks. Good thing my skirt only goes down as far as my knees.

OCC- No, Luke will leave Zack alone. It would be difficult to get him in, but it might be worse to get him out, especially if they have to move fast.

"Hang on a second," Says Luke to Alyssa. "Watch out for rats."

Luke then goes to the truck and fishes out a cup, pours Zack a generous cup of whiskey, and then gives the old fella the drink. "Here ya go, to keep the edge off. If you see someone come along, sing out, ok. And if you want more of this, don't mention you've seen us. Got it?"

When he gets Zack to approve, Luke returns to the window to check on Alyssa.

Yuck, rats! thinks Alyssa. She isn't afraid of them in the slightest, but she does find them disgusting, and there's a decent chance of running into them in a run-down, decrepit place like this. She surveys the printing room, deep in thought.

"These machines were deliberately smashed a very long time ago," whispers Alyssa to Luke when she returns to the window. "It probably happened in 1846. I didn't think the locals would be too keen on the press, but this is especially brutal. I hope John Lawrence survived." I hope I do too, she thinks with a shiver.

Luke takes a look around to see if they are being observed, and then slips through the window, carrying the case with the shotgun carefully. He passes a glance over the machines, letting his eyes adjust to the darkness. "Lawrence wasn't keen on the local political status quo? Or maybe he was reporting something the local didn't want known." His voice raises barely over a whisper, "Either way, we're technically trespassing. I am not sure if who ever they are didn't destroy the records. Hell, I don't know why they didn't torch this place and burn the evidence. Either way, if there are records here, I think we should find them. But we need to move quickly. I don't like the idea of being discovered in here by a bunch of characters into human sacrifice and kidnapping, and neither should you. Step careful. This place could have structural damage you don't see."

Alyssa nods, gulping as the true danger of this place finally sinks in. I'm used to snooping around where I'm not wanted, she thinks, but this isn't Arkham. If I got caught poking about there I could get out of it by flashing my press card and a pretty smile, and speaking the right words. In Innsmouth my press pass is the last thing I want anyone to see, and if I'm caught here I could be abducted by smelly, fishy-looking men who would tie me to some unholy altar and plunge that stolen dagger into my heart - if I'm lucky. "John Lawrence reported the truth about what was going on in Innsmouth," she whispers back, cupping her hand around the flashlight to keep the light from straying to the windows. "Obed Marsh and his ilk wouldn't have liked that. Our best bet to locate records would be to find his office. Maybe we can find out what story they were about to print when this happened. One newspaper office should be laid out much like another." She proceeds carefully searching for the editor's office, watching her step and using the flashlight to reveal any structural weaknesses.

"Watch out for that hole," Alyssa whispers to Luke, shining the flashlight on it. She carefully skirts around it to the door and cups a hand to her ear, listening at the door to determine if anything is on the other side. Hearing nothing, she waits for the captain to join her before opening the door.

When Luke reaches Alyssa he takes time to inspect the door. As a long time mariner, he knows that the effect of weather, rot and temperature can damage a door, rotting it away or warping it so that its stuck to the frame. But he also is still keen to check for possible traps. Someone clever could hide a shotgun behind a door making for an unpleasant surprise for anyone who opens it.

"Shine the light here, please." He asks as he inspects the door. "It might be better if you stand back a bit from the door. I should have brought a crowbar. Incidently, you might want to shine a light into the hole and see if there's anything interesting down there. But be careful near the ledge. the floor is probably weak."

While keeping her voice down may seem pointless after the noise a moment ago, there's no sense in confirming someone's presence in the building. "Let's see if we can find what we came for quickly, then go."

Luke nods, his fingers on the violin case with the shotgun. But a look around the building. "Perhaps, but I doubt anyone heard it. This place might be old but it probably could keep the sound, unless there is something in this building. Either way, I agree. Best to be quick." Then thinking more about it. "Look, just in case. I got my .45 and the shotgun. If we get in trouble, I am going to give you the shotgun. Its loaded and its easy to work."

Luke gives Alyssa the basic instructions.

"Wait till they are close. Real close. Close enough you can see their fish eyes. Then fire this into their midsection. It will be hard to miss at pointblank range. Otherwise, it will make a lot of noise. Anyone hearing you chamber the round should know what you got in your hands. But don't wait. Run like hell. God knows how many of them there are. We can try for the truck, but if they are on to us, they might see the truck and use that as bait."

"Now I would prefer we didn't have to shoot our way out of it, but if have to, do it. If for whatever reason they still stand after you fire, hit them again. You can feel guilty about it later. I will do my best to get you out of here. But if I don't make it out, go to Bruno and tell him what happened."

Luke considers it for another moment. "I think it might be a good idea to check things out. Frankly, I am feeling a bit useless in here. But if you feel safer with me close, I'll stick close."

And you're not useless. You realized that the door could be dangerous, and you're here for protection. Let's search the office while we can."

We'll keep the shades down so that lights aren't seen from outside, and close the shutters if there are any." She breathes a sigh of relief that they made it out of town without incident. "That was the first time I've truly been in danger. It was frightening, but also...exciting in a way. I don't know if that makes any sense. Now I know a little of what my father means when he talks about reporting from the trenches. Well, I hope we got something useful from our escapade." Now that she has light and time to relax, she starts looking through the newspapers she had taken from the Innsmouth Courier offices.

Most of the information is local news without any importance; about the group who is arrested, only that the judgement is eminent. But suddenly, you find a manuscrit written in a different hand; certains parts are illegible, but you understand most of it:

I don't hear more gunshots; it means the resistence finished and the (...) have winn; I only heard the chants of Ia cthulhu and those awful voices. Hellen tried to run to some of (...), but even if she escapes, it will be too late to bring help; at least she will be safe. But nothing could prepare us. If anyone reads this text let it know, that behind Obed and (...)ot human, but creatures who look fishes, I saw one of them. Oh my God! They are(...). May God have mercy of my soul!!

Alyssa learns much from reading the papers. She gasps, horrified at the things she has read. She can't help but imagine herself in Helen's place, with Arkham overrun by fish-monsters, her boss and everyone else at the Advertiser dead, and fleeing for her life. When she collects herself, she shares the information with the others, tears still in her eyes. "My God, it's horrible!" she says. "Murdered, all of them! John Lawrence too. I don't know who Jeremy, Tom, and Helen were, but they must have had something to do with the Innsmouth Courier. Zack, do any of those names sound familiar to you? At least Helen might have escaped. Oh, I hope so. I don't like thinking about what they'd have done to her if they'd caught her. How is this even possible? Creatures that look like fish? But this was in 1846, and any children those diseased women had would still be children at that point. Unless Obed Marsh brought men back from the Pacific too...but whoever wrote those notes is quite clear that these things weren't even human!" She shudders, then clenches her hands into fists. "They have to be stopped! We need to find and rescue Manuel, then get back to Arkham with proof of what's going on here. Once people find out about it, something will be done."

OCC- ah.. confusion resolved. Fair enough, there are ports near Innsmouth that are less creepy, ya? They are in Innsmouth Harbour? Oh... I thought they might anchor nearby. Maybe Falcon Point (which seems close based on my map of Lovecraft's Massachusetts). I had not intended to the crew to be so close. Near enough to see a flare but not so close that they would be seen from shore. I had thought to take the truck with Alyssa to Innsmouth to check things out, ideally with Bruno and Felix, while leaving Karl in the boat and nearby, in case we had to make an escape by sea.

OC- its early morning, ya?

IC- Luke has had a chance to get a better view of the town as they proceed. He tries to stifle a yawn and then goes down into the galley to get a cup of coffee, bringing another up for Alyssa. While down below he replaces the shotgun in the armory and quickly takes a look to see if weapons are there and ready.

When Luke returns, he gives Alyssa a cup of coffee and asks Karl to prepare some breakfast, eggs, toast, juice if they have it. After the night they've had, it will be good to be restored.

"It might be wise for us to get some sleep now before proceeding. But if you're up for it, we might be able to learn a few things if we begin to look around and maybe catch them early. Just the two of us, I didn't like it. We have only a few friends nearby, we've got a better chance. If you like I can go with you and watch your back. In the meantime, Bruno and Felix can begin to explore the town, searching along the shoreline for info. Maybe it would be better if Felix went with you and I went with Bruno. How do you think we should proceed? Go right to their main temple or go pay a direct visit to the locals. Its a big town and we have a lot of places to look. But if you're right and they are planning a sacrifice soon, we need to find out about Miguel. Might be worth visiting the local police station."

I know you don't trust her, but we can be careful about what we ask and how we phrase our questions. It's too bad we don't have that reverend from Arkham with us. Say, wasn't his name Jones too? Maybe they're related...but maybe not, it's a common name. Still, she might be more open with another woman, and either you or one of your men can come with me. Then another pair can investigate something else. They're your crew and you know them best, so it's up to you who goes where. I'd be wary of the police station. The cops in Innsmouth are corrupt and definitely not to be trusted. They'd be naturally suspicious of strangers, and we'd only draw attention to ourselves if we went there."

But we'll check out the docks and see if we can learn something that way. We're going to try to draw attention towards us by making them an offer on some bootlegging. We'll see if anyone here is interested. They might be all about worship some watery monster, but I am guessing that they also need a little cash to support themselves from time to time."

There's some sort of town square just before the river, so it's likely near there. It's probably the tallest building in Innsmouth, so it would be hard to miss."

She looks at Rebecca to try to see if there's any family resemblance between her and Peter Tyler Jones and to get an impression of her. "Our Reverend Jones witnessed them running through the street outside his church after they committed a crime elsewhere, and he was worried that they might be planning to vandalize his church. I've done a little research into Innsmouth's history, and I know that sort of thing has happened here in the past. We weren't sure, but we thought he may have kin in Innsmouth who might be able to identify these men."

Bruno stirs the tea, curious to see if there is anything wrong with it. He puts the cup down and smiles. He tries to figure out this Rebecca person and why such a woman would live in such a place. He is tempted to speak, but figures it best to let the journalist talk, but figures the conversation has gone a bit stale. "Have you met the good reverend?"

Out by the truck, Luke and Felix begin to look at the local buildings, trying to figure which ones might be bars or hotels. Where the hell is Miguel? He just wants to get his man and get out.

-I do not any members of my family outside Innsmouth, and I'm the only one left here. Father didn't speak much of his family, he said that his work was here to try to save all the souls he could.

-No, most of the people here is far for being Christian. Just a couple of them like me, still have faith in God and believe this is our test.

I think if people who lived elsewhere knew what was going on here, there'd be such an outcry that it would reach all the way to Heaven, and something would be done to stop it."

-The problem is to prove anything. I have live all my life here, but I do not know much of what is happening here. There are rumours, and lot's of missing people, but all the authorities are controlled by the church, so it is impossoble to make a stand.

Those three men from Innsmouth vandalized a store, broke into the owner's home, and stole an antique dagger. Worse still, they've kidnapped the man who sold that dagger to the store's owner in Arkham and took him back to Innsmouth."

OOC: She seems to be a bit relieved and worried at the same time. And she seems to be telling the true.
-Well, the most important place, is the Esoteric Order of Dagon in the center of the town, near the town hall and the Gilliam Hotel. It used to be a christian church. Persons you can trust, let me see... The Averill. Even the Marsh are afraid of them, but I don't know if that is good. Everybody whispers that they have strange powers, but I do not have any complaints; they ignore me, and I do the same. The Slocum are still christians; they are very discreet of course; they live in the south of the city in Babson street. And there is Doctor Bloom. He is half mad, but for some reason, the Marsh leave him in peace. When any normal person is sick, they ask him for help; you see, we have an oficial doctor, but since he is a Marsh, most of the people avoid him and prefer Doctor Bloom; he lives also in the south of the town, in Fall street. There are other persons who don't like the situation, but they are too afraid and won't help you.

Do you have any idea how we could find out which one? Are there records kept somewhere that might say more, or is there somebody who might know?"

-The Marsh knows everything, but it's not a good idea to ask them. I doubt that they would keep a record of kidnapped people. With some luck, maybe the persons who have done the deed may be in a bar and say something.
