Appearance & Personality:
A suave, well-dressed man with dark brown hair and dark blue eyes. His eyes sparkle with the light, and he is quick to tender a compliment to an attractive lady or offer his chair. He's charming, well-mannered, and good-looking with a stocky build, standing just a little below average in height. He uses charm and witty banter to fit in to the crowd generally, unless he simply doesn't want to be notice - then you can find him safely subdued in the dark recesses of the room.
Background:
John grew up as a middle child, son of Barry and Martha Torrence. He was often in trouble - seeking attention from his parents, psychiatrists might have said (had the parents bothered to do anything about it). By his fifth time in trouble with the law, his parents disowned him completely - no longer acknowledging that he even was alive, let alone related. This was mostly his father's choice, but Martha was an obedient and subservient woman so she fell right in line with Barry's wishes.
John tried to keep in touch with his siblings, his older brother Martin stopped talking to him around the same time as their parents. His younger sister Jennine, however, kept a constant rapport through written correspondence or the occasional coffee.
John was sick of Boston and everything it represented to him. The police knew him too well there. He picked up and moved to Atlanta Georgia, accepting a new name for a while. It didn't take him long to fall in with the same crowds and get in the same trouble as he'd had before. But the thrill of new opportunities and travel had sunk in deep. Now as an adult, he chose to run from the law rather than become subdued by it.
In efforts to run away from the long arm of the law, John decided that he would do some travelling over seas. Using his particular set of skills, he managed to make his way on a ship as a stow-away, and then find enough money to book passage on the famous Orient Express. Here he was sure he would find plenty of rich people that could support a man of his needs for a while.
