IC-GOLD-Quarantine(Everyone)

Z-Day - 2:28 PM Mountain Time - Warren Air Force Base, west of Cheyenne, Wyoming
In the intake area-
Major Jaclyn MacPherson, the head of the quarantine clinic's staff, walked into the intake area. Like the others on staff, she wore an orange Racal suit to prevent exposure to biohazards. "I just got word that the survivors we've been expecting are entering the base and will be here soon," she said, addressing the others in the room. "Let's get ready to receive them and start triage. A few of them are injured, but it's nothing serious from what I've been told. Remember to make sure that your suits are not breached. Otherwise you'll end up in quarantine longer than you'd planned."

Lt. Oscar Gomez did not need to be told twice. Probably nobody on the staff was more careful than him. Senior Airman Tom Wu just nodded. The thought of having to go through the chaos out there was daunting. He had been worried that he might have been sent out to escort the survivors in since he was the senior orderly, but Catherine Rourke had volunteered. He didn't understand why she wanted to go out there, but he was glad it wasn't him. Airman Gary Simpson grunted, preparing medical supplies.

In the men's isolation ward-
Captain Nils Johansen was making his rounds in the men's ward, where the two male survivors who had somehow gotten inside the base perimeter earlier this afternoon were staying. There were eight curtained alcoves in a row, but only the first and last of them were occupied currently. That would change as soon as the survivors from the communications outpost were brought in. He looked into Room 8, where the elderly man from Cheyenne named Simon Crane lay sleeping on his bed. He was suffering from severe fatigue and was badly shaken by the horrors that had befallen the city this morning. In Room 1 was the young man named Robert who had accompanied him and Beth, the only female patient. Robert sat up in bed and was conscious. Unlike Simon he was the picture of mental and physical health. Captain Johansen was a little envious of his youth and vitality.

"Hey, Doc," said Robert when he saw him. "How's it going?"

In the women's isolation ward-
Like the men's ward, the women's ward consisted of eight curtained alcoves. Only the first one had a patient, Robert's friend Beth. Lt. Barbara Ellison was in there talking to her. "How are you feeling?" asked Lt. Ellison.

"Fine, all things considered," said Beth. "Any word on when we'll be getting out of here?"

Barbara shrugged. "I'm not sure. I think they want to keep you overnight for observation, just in case, but I wouldn't worry. You're in great shape."

In the intake area-
Major MacPherson spoke into her suit's built-in radio: "Captain Johansen, Lt. Ellison, please return to the intake area. The survivors from outside will be here in a couple of minutes." Then she helped her staff ready gurneys and medical equipment.

In the men's isolation ward-
"On my way," said Captain Johansen into his radio. "That was the major, Robert. She just told me that we've got some more patients coming in. I have to go help."

"Okay, see you," said Robert.

Captain Johansen left the ward, heading for the intake area.

In the women's isolation ward-
"Coming," said Lt. Ellison into her radio. "Sorry, Beth, but I've gotta go. We've got more people incoming, and some of them are hurt."

"I'll talk to you later then, Barbara," said Beth. "It'll be nice to have more people to talk to, at least."

Lt. Ellison hustled back toward the intake area.

In the intake area-
Lt. Barbara Ellison returned to the intake area where Major MacPherson and the other staff members were waiting. "Ma'am," she said, saluting the major.

MacPherson returned her salute. "As you were, Ellison."

Then all of them heard the voice of Captain Drake on the radio: "We've arrived, Major."

"You heard him, people! We've got incoming. Look sharp, everyone!"

In the women's isolation ward-
Beth settled back on her cot and waited, deep in thought.

In the men's isolation ward-
Robert lay back after Captain Johansen left, but it wasn't long before an incessant tone came from Room 8. Robert leapt off of his bed and ran out into the hall. "Doc, get back here!" he shouted. "Something's wrong with Simon!" A moment later, Johansen rushed back in.

In the men's isolation ward-
Captain Johansen rushed into Room 8, where Simon Crane lay still upon his bed. The heart monitor showed he had no pulse, and the tone indicated that he had flatlined. Johansen started trying to administer CPR while speaking into his radio: "Major, Mr. Crane is going into V-fib! I need a crash cart in here stat!"

"Anything I can do to help?" asked Robert from down the hall.

"Just stay back."

In the women's isolation ward-
Beth lay back and sighed, unaware of the commotion in the other ward.

In the intake area-
Major Jaclyn MacPherson rushed into action as soon as she heard the radio message. "Ellison, you and Simpson are with me! The rest of you get ready to receive the wounded." She ran through a doorway leading toward the men's ward. Simpson and Ellison grabbed a cart with a defibrillator and raced after her.

In the intake area-
Captain Isaac Drake led the group in through the sliding doors at the entrance, crossing the vestibule to the intake area. Medical supplies and equipment had been set up in this large room, as had several gurneys. There were only two people in the room at the moment, the rest apparently responding to the medical emergency. Both of them wore orange suits like the others.

"I'm Lt. Oscar Gomez," said the shorter of the two men. "I'm one of the nurses here. This is Senior Airman Tom Wu, my head orderly." He indicated the other, bigger man who nodded and saluted Captain Drake and the other officers with him.

"It looks like you've overprepared," replied Drake. "Our new patients' wounds are not too serious, thank God. It's better to overprepare than underprepare. I trust Major MacPherson and Captain Johansen can deal with our other patient. Let's get triage started."

"Zorie Spooner needs treatment the most," said Lt. Evans. "Airman Hodges could use looking after too. Lt. Doolittle and Senior Airman Coltrane have minor injuries and bruises from the crash that have already been fully treated."

"Okay, we'll deal with the injuries first, then decontamination and screening. Lt. Evans, help me with Ms. Spooner. It'll be tricky working around the suit, but we have to make sure it isn't breached. Lt. Gomez, you look at Airman Hodges."

In the women's isolation ward-
Beth rolled over onto her side, somewhat bored. I'll take boredom over what we faced out there, she thought.

In the men's isolation ward-
Robert backed out of the way as the crash cart raced through, pushed by Lt. Ellison and Airman Simpson. Major MacPherson ran ahead of them. "What's his status, Johansen?" she called.

"He's coding, ma'am!" shouted Captain Johansen as he continued to apply CPR to Simon Crane without results. "No pulse, no BP!" The flat tone continued coming from the heart monitor.

Frank looked to Lt. Gomez: "Lt. Gomez, plesantries will have to wait. I just heard over the radio that you have someone flatlining. If they die, they will come become a zombie. They will attack whom ever they can and will kill may people. That cannot be allowed to happen. You have to believe us. We've been out in this shit for an entire day now and have seen dozens of our friends die at the hands of these things. All of them have returned as zombies. Even those not killed by zombies are rising as them. Right now, the person who is flatlining is the single greatest threat to this base."

In the intake area-
Captain Drake looked skeptical, taken aback by Frank's overconfidence, but Lt. Doolittle confirmed it. "It's true, sir," she said. "I've seen it happen myself. If he dies, he'll rise."

"Please, Captain," said Lisa Crow. "You can't take any chances!"

"I know you've all been through a lot," said Drake, "but sometimes under stressful circumstances people can see things that aren't so, or misinterpret what they do see. Our medical staff will of course try their best to save the patient, but I can't believe in this nonsense about the dead rising. I examined the man myself, and I'm certain he hasn't been bitten."

"Dammit, doc!" shouted David. "We all saw it, and we can't all be imagining the same thing!" But his argument fell on deaf ears.

"Sir, the danger is real!" said Senior Airman Roger Coltrane, but the captain wasn't listening.

Airman Catherine Rourke paused in thought. "Sir, he has a point," she said. "He's been out there, and we haven't. We should at least consider the possibility."

Drake frowned. "Airman, when I want your opinion I'll ask for it!"

Then a woman's scream could be heard from further within the clinic, followed by gunfire.

In the women's isolation ward-
Beth tried to take a nap, but the screaming and shooting ensured she wouldn't sleep for quite some time.

In the men's isolation ward-
Captain Johansen rubbed gel on Simon Crane's exposed chest while Major Jaclyn MacPherson charged up the paddles and held them in her hands. "Clear!" she called.

Before she could apply them, Simon Crane sat up. His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked at the attending medical staff hungrily. And the heart monitor continued to show that he had no pulse...

Lt. Barbara Ellison screamed in terror, and she nearly lost control of herself. Airman Simpson kept his cool and raised his M-16. MacPherson also did not panic, nor did Captain Nils Johansen.

Simpson opened up with a burst, barely hitting with all three rounds. One of Simon Crane's legs was crippled, and an arm was badly damaged, but it wasn't enough to stop him. He reached out to get Barbara and encircled her with his arms. Her martial arts training kicked in, and instinctively she only just broke the hold. Then she whipped out her Beretta and snapped off a shot. The bullet went wide and ricocheted, but luckily missed everyone.

Major Jaclyn MacPherson had a sudden inspiration. She recalled what she had been told about the theory of the dead rising, a theory that was now confirmed before her. A scientist named Stephanie Bridges had postulated that the corpses were animated by electricity, and that an electric shock could disrupt and short them out. The effectiveness of the electric fence on the base perimeter seemed to bear this out. Taking the paddles already in her hands, she tried to press them into Crane's chest, but she came up a little short.

Captain Johansen was the slowest to react. He too drew his pistol and fired, but the bullet was too hastily fired and well off the mark. Unfortunately, it bounced off of the wall and struck Major MacPherson, nicking her arm.

Colin Lewis said, "Your just like all the other officers that I served under in this man's army. You have got to belive us. We have seen it happen. Do not be stupid. Kill that creature with electricity or shooting it through the head!"

"Captain, did you hear the screams and the gunfire or is the shit you have for brains plugging up your ears too?" Frank said to Captain Drake. "We've been through hell all day and the last thing we need in here is everyone ignoring the absolutely VITAL intell we have," Frank said, motioning to the rest of the group with his arms, " about what's going on out there. I don't care how crazy or irrational ANYTHING we say may sound to you but it's the gods honest truth and by dismissing us, you are putting the lives of everyone in danger." Frank took a few breaths and unslung his rifle and held at the ready, but with the end safely and non threateningly pointed at the groud. "Now, Captain, where is the sick bay where this man was being treated?"

Hearing the scream and gunfire without at weapon made Keith feel very vulnerale. "Uh, pardon the inreruption, guys, but can we have our guns back? If that zombie makes it into here there are going to be a whole hell of a lot more if them in the base if we are all unarmed."

In the intake area-
Captain Drake was already pushing his way through the double doors at the far end of the intake area, beyond which an operating theater was visible. "It's this way," he said. "Come with me if you want, but watch your mouth, Airman! I'll excuse you this time because of the strain you've been under." Frank Hodges, Senior Airman Roger Coltrane, and Airman Catherine Rourke went with him.

"Your weapons aren't being kept in this building, sir," said Lt. Sara Evans to Keith. "You don't have anything to worry about. All Air Force personnel here have weapons and are trained in their use, myself included. We can handle one of the infected easily enough."
OOC,Anyone who wishes to do so may go with Drake.
In the women's isolation ward-
Beth jumped at the screams and gunfire. She cautiously got up, and made her way into the hall of the isolation ward, opening the double doors leading to the operating theater.

In the operating theater-
Drake led the way through the operating theater, which had several curtained-off alcoves with operating tables and medical apparatus. Identical double doors were on the left and right ends of the large room. Drake led the way to the ones on the left. "The men's isolation ward is through here," he said as he ran, drawing his pistol. The others all had their rifles ready. The gunshots and screams continued, louder now.

A beautiful young woman pushed open the double doors to the right on the other side. She was wearing a hospital gown, but she looked healthy. "What's going on?" she asked.

In the men's isolation ward-
Barbara Ellison stumbled back into the hall, shrieking as Simon Crane lurched after her. She got off another shot, wounding him very badly in the right thigh and severing his leg. He toppled onto her as Gary Simpson put another bullet into him, this one lodging itself deep in the base of his spine. Somehow he continued to move, and he was poised to attack the terrified nurse again. Captain Johansen took another shot, missing by mere inches. This one too ricocheted into the wrong target, striking the hapless major again! The round pierced her other arm, breaking it and severing an artery. She collapsed to the floor, unconscious and bleeding to death.

As Robert emerged from his room, Barbara squirmed away as Simon nearly bit her. She fired a second shot, hitting him in the arm with the merest graze. Johansen fired and missed again, and hit someone for the third time. This time he was the one to pay the price, taking one in the leg.

Robert was the essence of calmness. At once he knew that Simon was dead, and that if he didn't hurry and take action others would join him. He grabbed an IV stand and rushed forward, only to slip and fall, losing his grip on the long metal stand. It struck poor Major MacPherson, ending her life in an instant as it crushed her leg. He was horrified at what had happened, but he knew that it wasn't his fault and that he had been trying to save her. Captain Johansen did blame himself, but he stayed sober regardless, knowing that others still needed his help. Barbara screamed again, utterly distraught at losing the best doctor around, not to mention a wonderful person and good friend. However, her mind was unable to fully process what was happening. Gary Simpson shook with disbelief, his psyche hit to the breaking point. He realized that he would never be safe, and he dropped his rifle and curled up into a ball in the corner.

Colin hurried after Drake despite not having a weapon. He knew he would not make it out to see the world after this was over and the loss of his best friend made it impossible for him to care anyway.

OOC: Are there guards left to watch over the civillians?

Frank hurried after Drake with his rifle out, and ready for anything.

Hearing the gunfire and screams, Keith looked around the room for something to use as a weapon. He also scanned the area for escape routes.

OOC,Keith, roll Spot Hidden. The following people in the intake area are armed: Lt. Rebecca Doolittle (pistol, MP-5), Lt. Sara Evans (pistol, scalpel), Lt. Oscar Gomez (pistol), and Airman Tom Wu (pistol, M-4, baton). There are also guards stationed outside the clinic entrance. There are only two exits from the intake area: the vestibule leading back outside, and the doors leading into the operating theater.

In the intake area-
"You won't be allowed to simply walk out of here," said Lt. Evans. "You are under quarantine. If things were to get so bad that we needed to be evacuated, I think I could get the guards to let us return to the vehicles and leave, but I don't believe the situation is that bad. One infected person can be dealt with. It's when they come in numbers that you have to worry."

"One of them is plenty to worry about if it's the one that's trying to bite you, ma'am," said Tom Wu sullenly.

Surveying the room, Keith saw a tray of surgical equipment, including several scalpels of varying types. There were also plenty of things in the room that could be used as makeshift clubs.

One more pistol shot came from further inside the clinic, along with more than a few screams.

In the operating theater-
"Robert's in there!" cried Beth. She hurried after Drake and the others as they ran into the men's ward.

In the men's isolation ward-
When Captain Drake and those with him entered the ward, they were met with a horrifying sight. An old man in a hospital gown, shot full of holes and with one of his legs severed, was on top of a screaming young woman in an orange suit, trying to bite her as blood oozed from his many wounds. An older woman in an orange suit lay motionless on the floor next to a cart with a defibrillator, bullet holes in her orange suit and an IV stand on top of her leg. A pistol was in a holster attached to her belt. A man in an orange suit with a bullet wound in his leg was nearby, and another man in an orange suit was curled up in the fetal position in the corner, having dropped his M-16. A young man in a hospital gown was lying sprawled on the floor.

Drake reeled in shock, stunned at the carnage. The realization of what had happened broke him, and he fled in horror back to the operating theater. "Robert!" cried Beth, only barely keeping panic at bay. Airman Catherine Rourke was frightened for once, and she shook badly from the sight, but the severity of the situation did not sink in.

"No!" screamed Lt. Barbara Ellison beneath the bulk of Simon Crane, overwhelmed by her terrifying nightmare come true. Blood spurted from his body, smearing her suit and the clear faceplate. "Get him off me! HELP!" She fired another shot, putting a bullet in his shoulder and felling him at last. She continued to shriek.

"Ma'am..." said Captain Nils Johansen, tears in his eyes. "I'm sorry." He clutched his wounded leg.

"You have to shoot her in the head!" said Robert, the man in the hospital gown. "It's the only way to stop her from getting back up."

"No, I've shot her enough already! And if anyone tries to desecrate her corpse, I'll shoot him!"

"But, sir..." said Coltrane.

"Hold your fire! That is a direct order!" He brandished his pistol.
OOC,Frank Hodges and Colin Lewis, roll Sanity for seeing the zombie. Sanity loss is 0/1 for Hodges, as he lost 9 points for seeing zombies earlier. For Colin Lewis, it is 0/1d10, but with a maximum loss of 4 since he lost 6 points earlier. Any loss of more than 4 will be counted as 4, reducing him to 1 Sanity. Anyone in the room may roll Fast Talk to try to convince Captain Johansen to change his mind. The base chance is 5%. There is no time for Persuade.
Frank Hodges,Johansen has 20 EDU, so your overconfidence will not go over well with him. You have a -20 penalty on your Fast Talk roll.

Colin saw the sight but he had seen enough today that this did not shake his fragile mind. He tried to talk Captain Johanesn into shooting the new zombie but he saw that it was not going to work. He sighed and said, "You fucking REMF!" He then tried to grab the gun away from the Captain.

In the men's isolation ward-
Captain Johansen wasn't expecting Colin to grab for his gun, and he could not maintain complete control of it. "Put him down!" he commanded as he struggled for the pistol.
OOC,We're now in combat again. Colin Lewis does not have the gun yet, but while he and the captain are fighting for it nobody can fire it. Colin will have to succeed at another Grapple next round in order to actually take the gun away. He has already acted this round, so he'll have to wait for that. Frank Hodges, you may act before anyone else does. Everyone else except Lt. Barbara Ellison (who has already acted) will then get to go, including Captain Johansen. Right now he's the least of Colin's worries, however...

In the men's isolation ward-
"God, what's wrong with you people?!" said Beth to Colin and Captain Johansen. "You've got to stop fighting, or everyone will get killed! Again! We don't have much time before she gets up!"

"I don't believe a word of this 'dead rising' crap," said Johansen as he wrestled for the gun. "That's completely impossible! Now get this guy off me!"

"Come on, Beth, let's go get some help," said Robert. "They're not going to listen to reason." He took her hand and pulled her through the doors, back into the operating theater.

"Mommy..." cried Airman Gary Simpson in the corner.

"Captain, I assure you it's true," said Coltrane. "The dead are being reanimated. I've seen it myself many times. This man wasn't 'infected' with anything that isn't already in all of us. I won't act against orders, sir, but I'm asking you to please reconsider before it's too late." But his words fell on deaf ears.

"Oh, brother!" said Airman Rourke. "Sir, please!"

"Airman, if you don't want to be court-martialed, take him down NOW!"

"Yes, sir," she said, frowning. She unhooked her baton from her belt and cracked Colin Lewis with it. The blow struck the back of his leg, but it didn't even come close to knocking out the big man, though it did cause him to lose his grip on the gun.

Captain Johansen pulled hard and started to wrench his pistol free of Colin's grip. "Nurse, I want him sedated and put in restraints!"
OOC,Colin Lewis, first roll Grapple to see if you can counter the captain's attempt to get his gun back. If you fail this roll, or if you choose not to resist, he will recover his gun and point it at you. You may then try to grab for it again with another Grapple roll, but if you fail he will be able to shoot you. If you attack him (or Airman Rourke) by any means other than a Grapple, he will get one shot off before you attack, and another afterwards if he is able. If your first Grapple roll succeeds, make a second roll to take the gun away. You are also in melee combat with Catherine Rourke, don't forget. Everyone may attempt another Fast Talk roll this round too.
In the intake area-
Captain Drake came running in from the operating theater. "We're all gonna die!" he screamed, making a beeline for the vestibule and the exit to the parking lot.

"Sir, stop!" said Lt. Evans. "You can't go out there! The guards have orders to shoot if anyone breaks quarantine!"

OOC,The double doors leading back to the operating theater from the men's ward can swing open in both directions. They would have to be blocked from the other side. There are other exits from the ward visible, but that appears to be the only way to get back to the intake area. The swinging doors between the operating theater and the intake area work the same way.

"Johansen, you're about to find out that we're not bullshitting you in about 30 seconds!" says Frank as he backed out of the operating theater. Keeping his eye on the corpse of the woman and his rifle in the safe position, Franks says to Coltrane: "Hey buddy, I don't think they are listening. Let's back up and get ready for what's about to happen." Frank keeps a close eye on the corpse of the woman, looking for the first sign of movement.

(occ-Handy, sorry did not realize that you were waiting for me again.)

Colin was angry enough that he refused to back down. He made another grab for Captain Johansen and again grabbed him. He then grabbed the gun away from Johansen. Colin then said, "I intend neither of you harm. I will not shoot anyone who is still alive but that woman will rise up and she will attack us. So I am taking this gun with me as insurance. If you want to stay here and see this occur by all means stay here but if you want to leave and come with me for survival I will not harm you." He saw that he was swaying them to his side.

OOC,Don't worry about it, I wasn't even waiting long. Impressive rolling! Let's see if you can keep it up...
In the men's isolation ward-
Coltrane retreated back to the operating theater with Hodges.

"All right," said Captain Johansen, putting his hands up. "Just give me back my gun and we'll forget this whole thing."

Then Major MacPherson began to stir. "She's alive!" said Lt. Barbara Ellison in disbelief. Then she saw the doctor's red eyes through her clear faceplate. "No, she's not..." Her panic was gone, only adrenaline remained. She raised her pistol and shot her, putting a bullet deep in her leg.

Simpson had his psyche further blasted. Seeing her killed had been bad enough, but seeing her rise was far worse. He realized even more clearly how doomed he was, and he retreated further into himself. Catherine Rourke remained steady and reached for her gun. Captain Johansen turned to look, but the sight did not break him any further. "My God, you were right..." he said.
OOC,Colin Lewis, roll Sanity. Sanity loss is again 0/1d10, but you can lose at most 4 points, so any loss of more than 4 counts as only 4, leaving you with 1 Sanity. Then you may fire twice at the zombie; the range is point blank, so your Handgun skill is doubled, but there is no time to aim at the head, so roll 1d20 for a hit location for each shot that hits. If you miss, roll Luck for each bullet that misses to make sure you don't hit the wrong person. The gun does 1d10 damage on a normal hit, or 2d10 on an impale (18 or less). The zombie has taken 9 damage so far. It will take 10 damage to the head or 31 more damage in general to finish it. The others in the room, except for Simpson, will all get to act before it attacks.
In the operating theater-
When the shooting started afresh in the men's ward, Robert and Beth hurried through the doors and back to the intake area, passing Melinda as she entered. Coltrane looked at Hodges. "We can't block off the door," he said. "There are still people in there!"

In the intake area-
Captain Drake showed no signs of slowing. "Sir, please!" said Lt. Sara Evans. "I know you're afraid, but you're going to get killed!" It was as if he hadn't heard her. "Gomez, Wu, stop him!"

Lt. Gomez tried to grab the captain in a bear hug. He was unable to break free, but he did wriggle loose.

"Stop!" pleaded Amanda. "You don't know what you're doing, Captain!" Again he ignored her.

Only Senior Airman Tom Wu stood between Captain Drake and the exit, like a football player playing defense and trying to stop the guy with the ball from getting into the endzone. He tried to tackle him, but Drake nimbly rolled aside and sprinted for the exit.

Two men in orange suits with M-16s raised stood just outside the exit to the parking lot. "Sir, halt or we'll fire!" one of them shouted. Drake didn't even hesitate, running straight at them.

"No, don't shoot!" shouted Sara. But it was too late. The first SF trooper cut loose with a burst, and he would have hit with a single bullet, but Drake's madness-fueled desperation enabled him to twist aside. The other guard's burst was accurate, hitting the captain twice, crippling an arm and a leg. Captain Drake was quite dead. "No, you fools!" Sara cried, but the day had hardened her enough to endure witnessing the death of her mentor. Gomez gulped, but he too remained unbroken. Tom Wu rocked unsteadily, but he recovered almost right away.

Robert and Beth had only just entered when they saw the captain get gunned down while trying to flee. Robert stared, but not in shock. "They really mean business," was all he could say. He put an arm around Beth, who kept herself together. "They killed their own man!" she exclaimed.

It was too much for David, who only just managed to maintain his self-control. He turned his head away and saw the new arrivals. "Robert, man!" he said. "Good to see you. And it's especially good to see you again, Beth. I'm glad you two made it here."

Zorie Spooner was stunned, but she kept her cool. So did Lt. Doolittle and Amanda, but Lisa was another matter. She broke down crying, but she didn't give herself over entirely to despair.

The first SF trooper shuddered when he realized what he and his partner had done, and his mind was overwhelmed with anguish, but it rendered him unable to truly comprehend what had happened. The second guard, the one who had killed the captain, was in despair over what he had just done. He was left shattered, fully aware that he had just killed an innocent man, his superior officer. He slumped over and began to cry.
OOC,Keith, roll Sanity for seeing Drake killed. Sanity loss is 0/1d6. No other player characters saw it, so they don't have to roll for it.

Colin saw the dead woman rise and his mind lost a litte more of itself. Luckly for him he did not go insane but his mind was on the brink of it.

He raised the pistol and fired twice hitting the zombie two times. The first bullet hit the zombie in the left leg causing some minor damage. The second bullet was truer and it hit the zombie in the chest but again did not seem to do much damage.

"Shit we may be in trouble."

After all the death today, seing Drake killed did not phase Keith in the least.
"Melinda! We need to stick together and figure a way out of here but it doesn't look like they will be letting us leave."
Keith turned to the closest airman: "Sir, please, you have to let us leave. We won't cause any trouble, we just want our weapons and to be able to get in our vehicles and get out of here. Okay?"

In the Operating Theater-
Keith raised his rifle and took aim at the womans head and fired but missed.

OOC,I think you're mixing up Keith and Frank again. That Sanity roll for Keith actually failed, as he had 21 Sanity, so I'll roll his Sanity loss. Frank Hodges may fire through the door, but there's no time to aim at the head. The shot is a miss either way, but you needed to roll Luck to see if it hit someone by mistake. I'll roll that too.
In the operating theater-
Frank's shot whizzed into the men's ward, but luckily it missed everyone by quite a bit and embedded itself in the ceiling. Coltrane took a shot too, and his bullet struck home, punching a small hole in Major MacPherson's side.

Melinda walked in from the intake area.

In the men's isolation ward-
Lt. Barbara Ellison fired a perfect shot, hitting the base of the zombie's spinal cord and severing it. Major Jaclyn MacPherson lay at rest, for good this time.

"Nice shooting, ma'am!" said Catherine Rourke admiringly. "You stopped both of them."

"Uh...thanks," said Barbara, starting to calm down.

Captain Johansen spoke into his radio. "The situation in the men's ward is resolved," he said. "Major MacPherson was killed by friendly fire when Simon Crane rose from the dead and attacked. It...it was my fault. I was wounded by one of my own bullets, but it's not life-threatening. Then Major MacPherson rose up. Lt. Ellison terminated both of them. Captain Drake, please respond." He then spoke to the increasingly distraught Colin Lewis and held out his hand. "My sidearm, please, sir."

Catherine went over to Captain Johansen and examined his leg. "I'd better leave this one for the professionals, sir," she said.

The captain took out his medical kit, sat down, and extracted the slug. He bandaged it, but there wasn't much he could do.

In the intake area-
Keith Deeds was badly shaken, but he still had his wits about him. Those who had radios heard Captain Johansen's message. There were some more gunshots coming from the men's ward, and then silence. "Please remain calm," said Lt. Sara Evans. "Everything is under control now. If you really want to leave the base, I'll see if I can arrange it once the wounded have been treated, but I would advise against it."

"You have to shoot his body in the head!" insisted Robert. "Otherwise, he'll get back up!"

Sara nodded and called to the SF troopers. "Shoot Captain Drake's corpse, Airman. In the head."

"Ma'am?" asked the one who was still in possession of his faculties. The other kept weeping uselessly.

"You heard me. That's an order!"

"Yes, ma'am." He pointed the barrel of his M-16 at the luckless captain's head and pulled the trigger. At this range there was almost no way to miss, and the bullet blew the dead man's brains out.

"Right. Gomez, you're with me. We have wounded. Wu, stay here with the others." She led Gomez into the operating theater behind Melinda and spoke into the radio. "Sir, this is Lt. Evans. I regret to inform you that Captain Drake is dead. In his panic he attempted to break quarantine, and the guards shot him before I could stop them. I ordered them to shoot his corpse in the head. This puts you in command, sir."

OOC,Only one player has posted so far, but I've waited too long and I'm going to update anyway. Remember that you're expected to post for each of your characters after each major update. If your character isn't doing anything, you should still post that. Otherwise I don't know whether you haven't posted because you don't want to, or because you haven't had a chance to yet.
In the intake area-
Amanda turned to the sobbing guard and spoke gently to him. "Please, young man," she said. "I know you're eaten up inside. You made a mistake, and a man died because of it, but we need you back. You can't undo what happened, but you can do better in the future. We need you to protect us."

The man sniffled and snapped out of his funk. "I'm sorry, ma'am," he said, straightening up.

In the operating theater-
Lt. Evans and Lt. Gomez hurried through the operating theater and into the men's ward, passing Coltrane, Hodges, and Melinda.

In the men's isolation ward-
"I gave you an order, sir!" snapped Captain Johansen at Colin. "Give me back my sidearm! I remind you that you're under military command, and you agreed to this when you were admitted to this base. If you disobey, you will be subject to military justice. You will receive the best physical - and mental - health care we can provide. If you return my weapon now, you will not face any disciplinary action. If you do not, you will be forcibly disarmed, sedated, and placed in restraints." He went over to Simpson, who was still lying in the corner, and shook him hard. "Airman, get a hold of yourself! I need you back in action!" He did not respond positively to this, however.

"Please get up, Airman," said Lt. Ellison, calmer now. She managed to get through to him, and he retrieved his M-16 and stood up.

Sara Evans walked in, shocked to see the dead bodies. It was too much for her to see Major MacPherson dead and mangled, and she broke down and fainted. Lt. Gomez swallowed, only narrowly holding onto his wits and his lunch.

Frank lowered his rifle: "That was a close one. Sir, with all due respect, we've been in the field all damn day and have a shit ton of intel on what's going on out there. You put this entire base in jepody by ignoring our warnings. It's time to throw all this rank and file crap into the trash and start listening to each other and working together. It's the only way to survive. Believe me, sir, I know because we tried the same shit at the diner. It didn't work for a second. As soon as we starting working together as humans trying to survuve; sharing resources, sharing weapons, and watching out for each other, we were able to hold our ground. After all, in the end, we are all just bags of flesh trying to not get eaten by the undead. It would go along way in preventing that, if we allowed these fellow survivors to be armed just as we are to they can watch your back, when Ellison here can't." Frank gave a good speech, he only hoped it was good enough to convince the captain to start working as a team.

Keith, after hearing all the gun shots, runs off to find Melinda.

Frank Hodges,Unfortunately, your overconfidence penalty is -20 due to Johansen's 20 EDU, so that roll does not succeed.
OOC,I had wanted to wait for richgav to post for Tom Wu, but it's been a while and there's still nothing, so I'll update now. Richgav, you can post for Tom Wu any time you're ready. You're in the intake area.
In the intake area-
"I thought all that would be over with once we got here," Amanda said. "I'm just relieved we're all right."

Zorie glanced over at Captain Drake's corpse. "I'm going to cover him," she said, picking up a sheet from one of the gurneys. "It's the only decent thing to do."

"Yes, ma'am," said one of the guards at the exit. Zorie walked over to the body and placed the sheet over it, hiding the carnage from view.

In the men's isolation ward-
"You were right about the dead rising, Airman," said Captain Johansen. "If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I'd never have believed it. Of course I will listen to any intel and advice you provide, but I cannot promise that I will do whatever you ask. I also cannot arm the civilians at this point, not even if I wanted to. Our orders are quite clear, and they come from the top." He nodded to Colin Lewis. "Have a seat, sir, and I'll take a look at your leg. Lt. Ellison, excellent work. I'm going to put you in for a medal. See what you can do for Lt. Evans. We're going to need her now more than ever."

"Yes, sir," said Barbara. "Thank you, sir." She walked over to Sara and exmained her. "She's not physically injured, sir." She gently touched her shoulder. "Sara, it's me, Barbara. You're safe now. Please get up. We need your help with the wounded." She shrugged. "It's no good, sir. She's not responsive."

"I'll have to help her myself. Lt. Gomez, see to the civilian's leg. Senior Airman Coltrane, I need you and Airman Hodges to gather everyone back at the intake area for triage and examinations. We'll head back there once we're done in here."

"Yes, sir," said Oscar Gomez. He put ointment on Colin's leg injury and wrapped it in gauze, but there was a limit to what he could do.

"I'm sorry about your leg, sir," said Catherine Rourke to Colin. She offered him her hand. "Come on, I'll help you back to the intake area." She looked at Captain Johansen. "Sir, your suit!"

"I know, Airman," said the captain, gazing at the bullethole that had breached his orange suit.

"You know the protocol, sir. You need to be screened and kept for observation along with everyone else."

"Yes, I'm aware of that." He approached Lt. Evans. "Lieutenant, get up. You're needed!"

Sara moaned softly, but did not rise.

In the operating theater-
"Yes, sir," Coltrane said to Captain Johansen. "Let's go, Hodges." He walked by Keith and Melinda. "Come on, you lovebirds. Let's go rejoin our friends."

Colin's damage and healing were shown in the linked rolls and are already reflected on his character sheet. He started with 17 HP, got hit for 5, and got healed for 1, so he is currently at 13. Treatment with Medicine can help him recover a little more, but it will take some time. In the men's isolation ward-
Captain Johansen sighed. "Rourke, Simpson, carry her," he ordered. "Everyone back to the intake area." He covered Major MacPherson's body with a sheet, took her sidearm and magazines, and followed the others out.

"Yes, sir!" said Catherine Rourke. She and Gary Simpson picked up Lt. Sara Evans gently and carried her out to the operating theater. Lt. Barbara Ellison followed.
OOC,Lt. Gomez, I'm still waiting for a post from you. The captain has ordered you to go with him.
In the operating theater-
Coltrane followed Hodges back to the intake area as Captain Johansen and the others emerged from the men's ward. "Let's get back to the intake area for triage and screening," the captain told Keith, Melinda, and Colin.

Sara groaned and slowly came to her senses. "Huh...wha..." she muttered. The orderlies put her down. She shook her head and looked at the floor. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay, ma'am," said Catherine.

In the intake area-
"What happened?" Lt. Doolittle asked when Coltrane and Hodges returned.

"It seems their patient died and then rose up, ma'am," said Coltrane. "He attacked the medical staff, and they returned fire wildly. Major MacPherson was killed in the crossfire, and then she rose. Luckily they put her down before she could hurt anyone. Captain Johansen was wounded by one of his own bullets."

"So it's over?" asked Beth.

In the operating theater-
"Our first priority is to take care of the wounded living," said Captain Johansen to Lt .Gomez as he made his way back to the intake area. "The dead have to come second. We won't be sending anyone back to the wards until after the screening is done, anyway. I suppose we can spare the orderlies for a little while, but we need every nurse we have - especially now. Rourke and Simpson, go take the bodies of Major MacPherson and Mr. Crane to the morgue, then clean up the ward. Everyone else, follow me."

"Yes, sir," said Catherine. She returned to the men's ward while Johansen entered the intake area. Evans and Ellison followed him.

In the intake area-
Captain Johansen strode in from the operating theater with the two female nurses behind him. "Senior Airman Wu, take Captain Drake's body to the morgue. Everyone listen up! The situation here has been resolved, and we are all safe now. It does appear that the infection is somehow causing the dead to be reanimated and attack the living, but as long as we keep an eye on things and make sure nobody dies, then we have nothing to worry about. I'm now in command, and believe it or not I do understand your feelings. My suit was breached, and I am now subject to the same quarantine and screening process that the rest of you are. I'm not going to be able to go anywhere else on the base until I'm given a clean bill of health. The nurses and I will examine and treat the wounded. Ms. Spooner and Ms. Deeds, your medical assistance would be much appreciated."
OOC,Tom Wu, in order to see if you can carry Drake's body, you must roll on the Resistance Table on 1d100, using your STR of 14 against his SIZ of 12. This gives you a 60% chance. If you fail, you can't move him far, but you'll be able to try again the following turn. If you succeed, you can carry his body into the operating theater this turn, and you can move further the next turn. The morgue is located past the men's isolation ward, on the opposite side from the operating theater.

He followed Johansen closely into the intake area where he listened carefully to the Captains as he addressed the new intakes, he was shocked to hear the Captains suit had been breached he quickly glimpsed down to view the bullet wound in Johansen's leg. Gomez watched Johansen and 2 female nurses go back into the operating theatre, and asked the captain "Sir Maybe I should treat your leg after we see to Mr Lewis?" he continued "Or would you see it better for me to treat other patients first? OOC,Normally you get one action per turn unless I specifically state otherwise. Things like moving to another room/area or engaging in combat count as your action for the turn, though some guns such as your Beretta can fire more than once per round. You moved to the intake area this turn, so you can't take other actions until next turn. Simple things like speaking (as you have done) are free and can be done in addition to your action for the turn, provided it's not a very long speech. Treating someone's injuries will take up at least a turn's action. Some long-term actions must be carried out over multiple turns, but with more people helping they can go faster.

OOC,Richgav hasn't joined us yet, so I'll play Tom Wu as an NPC until he does. Simpson and Gomez are not in the same area, though they can still talk via radio. Gomez is in the intake area, but Simpson and Rourke are in the men's ward.
In the intake area-
"My wound's already been bandaged," said Captain Johansen. "It can wait until everyone else is taken care of. Ms. Spooner, let me see to you personally. Ms. Deeds, why don't you take a look at Mr. Lewis? Lt. Evans, take a look at Airman Hodges. You can assign the other nurses to assist whoever needs it."

"Yes, sir," said Lt. Sara Evans. She went over to Frank Hodges. "Let me clean and redress your wounds, Airman." She removed his bandages and started to clean and disinfect his injuries, but she wasn't quite able to improve his condition. "Barbara, come over here and give me a hand. Oscar, go help out with Mr. Lewis."

"Sure," said Lt. Ellison, assisting her, but there wasn't much she could do either.

Amanda began to examine Colin's leg, but she wasn't able to make him any better.

Zorie Spooner lay on a stretcher and tried to help Captain Johansen with her injury, but she couldn't be of much assistance. "Just take it easy there, ma'am. I'll do all the work, you just lie down and relax." He managed to ease her pain even through her suit, but it limited what he could accomplish.

Senior Airman Tom Wu went over to Drake's body. He bent his knees and tried to lift, but he strained his back and doubled over in pain.

"Y'know," said David, "it's not just anyone who dies that you have to watch out for. Dead bodies from before this happened can dig their way out of their graves. We've seen it happen before."

The captain paused, suddenly taken aback. "My God, the cemetery! It's just down the road to the east!" He activated his radio. "Snipers on the roof, I need you to look to the east for possible incoming threats from the cemetery!"

"I see movement!" came the reply. "A large group of men in dress uniforms, maybe twenty, and they're walking this way. No, wait, two of them are running! They're...oh God, no! NO! They're everywhere! Help, help!"

"They're not 'everywhere,'" said another man's voice on the radio, "We're clear in the other directions. We can take them."
OOC,Lt. Gomez, roll Medicine to start helping Colin Lewis. If you succeed, roll 1d3 to see how many HP he will recover.
In the men's isolation ward-
Catherine Rourke tried to lift Major MacPherson's body, but she could not move it far on her own. "Ungh," she grunted through her teeth with the effort. "A little help here, please, Simpson." Then they heard the snipers on the radio. "Dammit, why did this have to happen now?! I'm going to miss all the fun!"
OOC,You can help Catherine Rourke carry the body without having to roll anything. Together, the two of you are strong enough to guarantee success.

"Yes Sir" replied Lt.Gomez as he moved quickly towards Colin and started to treat him, Gomez however failed to help at all, Gomez looked puzzlingly at Colin he was convinced that the treatment should have worked. While deliberating on his next course of action and hoping the elderly women may have better luck than him at treating the patient, Lt.Gomez asked Colin quietly "Where you able to get any news while you where on your way here? What happened to the big cities? New York, Washington? Where have all the people gone?"

OOC,Usually I put only characters' names in bold, while speech is in plain text surrounded by quotes, but you are free to do as you wish. Some players make their characters' speech a particular color instead, using the "Font colour" button. That roll was actually a critical failure, so Colin Lewis was injured for 2 damage. Any character in the room who hasn't acted yet may roll First Aid (base skill is 30%) to try to treat this new injury, and if successful you should roll 1d3 to see how many HP he recovers (to a maximum of 2, since that's how many he lost from that injury). Tom Wu was also injured for 1 damage when he pulled a muscle. Anyone in the intake area who hasn't acted yet can also attempt to apply First Aid to him, and a success will heal the damage.
Lt. Gomez accidentally reopened Colin's leg wound and caused it to start bleeding again.

OOC,Since Wu and Simpson's players haven't posted yet, I'll take them over temporarily as NPCs until they do.
Beth approached Colin. "Here, let me help," she said. "I know a little first aid." But when she tried, she only made it worse due her state of panic, breaching an artery and causing blood to spurt out of his leg. "Oh, God, I'm so sorry!" She backed away, shamefaced.

"I'm on it!" said Lt. Evans, rushing over to Colin and clamping the artery before he could lose much blood, repairing much of the damage.

Lt. Doolittle stood watching the entrance fearfully, her MP-5 at the ready.

"It's okay, Beth," says Robert, joining her. "At least you didn't kill anyone." He stepped in and patched up the wound that Lt. Gomez had reopened, undoing the damage.

Lt. Barbara Ellison was a moment behind Sara, and she helped her bandage Colin's leg.

Lisa tried to massage Tom Wu, but he cried out in agony at her touch, his muscles strained a little further. "I'm sorry," she said. "Normally men like it when I do that."

"Easy there," said Coltrane. "Let me give it a try." He went over to Tom and began to relieve his pain. Amanda joined him and finished the job. Within seconds, he was back on his feet.

"Thanks," he said, brushing himself off and preparing to attempt to carry the body again.

Captain Johansen continued treating Zorie Spooner. "Look alert, we may have company soon!" he told the SF troopers guarding the front door. Then he spoke into the radio. "What's going on up on the roof? Report!"

"Got both of the runners, sir!" reported one of the snipers on the radio. "The second one took two shots, but they're down for good. Now it's just the slowpokes. ETA is four minutes."

"Keep up the good work!" He opened up another channel. "Lt. Colonel Carmichael, this is Captain Johansen. The reports of the dead rising are accurate, and several of them have apparently dug their way out of their graves in the cemetery and are heading this way. They'll be here in a few minutes. Requesting backup immediately, sir!"

"Captain, calm down," replied Carmichael. "I know you're under a lot of pressure, but you need to think this through rationally."

In the men's isolation ward-
Rourke and Simpson were easily able to carry the major's corpse into the morgue.

In the morgue-
Rourke and Simpson hauled Jaclyn MacPherson's corpse into the morgue. They pulled out one of the drawers and laid her down on the slab, then closed it. "Okay, let's go back and get Crane. He's a big guy, so that's going to take a lot more effort."

Simpson quickly followed Rourke back to where Crane's rapidly-cooling body lay, acutely aware of the relatively short time between death and reanimation mentioned by the T-Bone survivors.

"Let's get him into the morgue ASAP." he said nervously.

Frank pased the room, not liking the situation he was in one bit. He was deadly recon scout and being trapped inside a building did not suit him well at all.
Frank approached Johnson: "Sir, permission to resupply? I am very low on ammo and my weapon could stand to be cleaned."

OOC,Frank actually isn't all that low on ammo, if you check the Locations and Weapons thread. He has seven full 30-round magazines for his M-16 along with a partial one, and he has 8 full .45 magazines plus a bullet in the chamber.
In the intake area-
"Nobody else is going to die," Captain Johansen assured Colin Lewis. "I'm not authorized to arm civilians, but Lt. Colonel Carmichael is. Airman Hodges, this is not an armory, and we do not store ammo and weapons here. If you need reloads, ask Senior Airman Wu if he or his orderlies can spare some of their magazines. As for going out of the building to resupply, that's not going to happen. We're under quarantine - and that includes me. If you'll let me speak to the colonel, I'll see about getting us some resupply. You can clean your weapon, but do it fast." He activated his throat microphone. "Sir, we are going to be under attack within just a few minutes. Surely you've heard reports of the snipers on the roof firing. These hostiles are inside the base perimeter and heading our way. We need immediate reinforcements and resupply!"

"Captain, I don't believe any of this nonsense about the dead rising," replied Carmichael. "I have already ordered a squad to your location to back you up. It should arrive in less than ten minutes."

"Sir, we don't have that long!"

"I'm sorry, Captain, but the logistics are what they are. They can't get there any faster. You're just going to have to hold out until they do."

"Understood, sir. We're going to need more ammo and weapons too. Can we at least arm the civilians?"

"Captain, you know the rules. The personnel you have on hand already should be sufficient to withstand this attack without their aid."

Johansen switched back to the regular channel. "Rourke and Simpson, I need you back in the intake area on the double! We're facing imminent attack, but reinforcements are on the way."

"Two more down, sir!" reported the sniper who had spoken earlier. "Sixteen to go. Wesson, what the hell have you been shooting at?! There's nothing in that direction!"

"But I thought..." said the other sniper. "I'm sorry, I...it won't happen again."

In the men's isolation ward-
Catherine Rourke returned to the men's ward with Gary Simpson. Both of them heard the captain's order on the radio. "He's not going anywhere," said Rourke, gesturing at Crane's body. "He's been put down for good. If he were going to get back up, he'd have done it already. Come on, let's head back to the intake area! There are some moving ones that need putting down!"

Colin said, "When I was in the army and we were it situations like this here...even though it may have been conterminding orders my squad leader did what he had do with the situation at hand. If your superior does not realize what is going on and you do why not arm us? What is the worst that could happen?" Colin saw that his persuading did not work.

Frank moved to Johnson: "Well, now you know how I felt a moment ago, eh? Forget Carmichael. He's obvously not going to listen. It's time to do what you know needs to be done. We need to fortify and prepare. Being prepared means arming everyone here that can shoot. I've been with these folks all day and I trust my lives to them. We have to, or we'll all be dead in a few moments. If the guns they came with are not available, then we can distribute our sidearms amongst them. It's better than nothing."
Frank looked around the room to get a lay of the land. "Is there room access to this building? We need to get up there if we can. It's teh safest place."

In the operating theater-
Simpson and Rourke rushed into the OR from the men's ward and raced across the floor, which unlike the bloody floor in the men's ward was still clean. They were nearing the double doors back to the lobby when they heard the captain speaking from the intake area.

In the intake area-
"Good thinking, Gomez!" said Johansen. "Everyone who can, help him move the gurneys and block off the main entrance." He turned to Hodges while Gomez and several others began to block off the vestibule. "There's no direct access to the roof. They wanted to make sure that the snipers weren't placed at risk in the event of an outbreak within this quarantined facility. There are fire escapes, however, that could be accessed upstairs. They've been locked to prevent the spread of the infection, but I have keys just in case and so does Lt. Evans. Major MacPherson and Captain Drake had them too. If there's a breach, retreating there is an option. The stairs are accessible from the women's ward. I'm sorry, but I simply can't authorize distributing weapons to the civilians. I have my orders. Believe me, I sympathize."

With so many people helping, a quick barricade made out of gurneys was assembled to block off the vestibule, where Drake's body lay.

"Yee-hah!" came Wesson's voice over the radio. "I just got two more of them, sir. Fourteen left."

"Keep it up, Airman," replied Johansen over the radio. "We need you to take out as many as you can before they arrive to even up the odds."

"Will do, sir," said the other sniper. "It won't be possible to get 'em all, but hopefully we won't leave you with too many."
OOC,Frank Hodges, go ahead and roll Persuade. Enough time has gone by that you can try it. However, he will be reluctant to disobey a direct order, so you might not get what you're hoping for even if you succeed, at least not right away, but having death staring him in the face is helping to open his mind.

"Sir, I know you have your orders about arming the civilians but we need all the help we can get. When the shit hits the fan, and believe me it will, you're going to want them at your side. They've been out there battling for their lives all day. They know what's going on and know the score." Frank leans in a little and lowers his voice: "You saw how Lt. Evans froze up back there. The soliers here have no idea whats going on out there and many won't be able to handle it. These people, here, they can and have been all day."
Frank straighted again and continued in a normal tone: "I owe my life to these people, each and everyone of them and by the end of the day, you may as well."
As stirring as he thought his speach was, Frank knew he could not persuade the Captain.

Keith-
Keith helped to move gurneys to barricade the main door.

In the intake area-
Simpson and Rourke rushed into the intake area from the operating theater. While Simpson did not get back before his view of the vestibule was cut off by the construction of the barricade, he did recall having noticed before that Captain Drake had been wearing a utility belt on the outside of his orange suit, and that he had a ring of keys attached to it. He also had his sidearm holstered on his belt, along with an ammo pouch. None of that did any good by this point, as there was now no way to get to the corpse without tearing down the barricade.

The survivors and the Air Force personnel quickly reinforced the barricade with all of the available gurneys, and it was now as strong as it was going to get. "Lt. Evans, lead all of the civilians upstairs. I'll give you the all clear on the radio when it's safe to come back."

"But, sir-" she started.

"Go, Sara! That's an order!"

"Yes, sir." She and Amanda helped Zorie up. "Come on, let's hurry. This way!" They went through the doors to the operating theater. David, Robert, Beth, and Lisa hurried after them.

Captain Drake moved back to the entrance to the operating theater. "Everyone else is with me. We'll hold the line here. If the barricade is breached and we have to, we can fall back and give our relief time to get here. Position yourselves near this door so we can retreat in a hurry." The other military personnel started moving to join him and pointed their weapons at the door. "Everyone make sure you have a full magazine loaded!" He swapped out his own pistol's magazine, as did Lt. Barbara Ellison with hers.

"Four more down and one badly wounded and crawling!" reported one of the snipers on the radio. "That leaves nine on their feet. ETA less than one minute!"

OOC,Colin was helping barricade the entrance earlier, so you did have an opportunity to slip him the pistol and some ammo then. Right now he's on his way out, so this is the only chance. If you want to do this, Frank and Colin should both roll Conceal, and state how many magazines you're passing. If either of you succeeds, nobody else will see it. Otherwise, other people have a chance, and all PCs in the intake area (or on their way out) should roll Spot Hidden. Also note that if Colin takes out the gun later to use it, others with him will notice that.

"Captain, perhaprs we should give the fire ewscape keys to one of the civies? That way, they can open up our exacpe route while we provide cover if it comes to that. Besides, we are on the front lines. Having hte keys up here means that one of them has to come up to get them should we fall."

OOC,Aw, you mean you're not going to give a gun to the guy with 1 Sanity? What's the worst that could happen?
In the intake area-
"Lt. Evans has the keys too, Airman," said Captain Johansen. "She'll open up the fire escape. Once she's on the other side, she can open it at will. I'll let her know on the radio if we have to retreat. Everyone get ready!" He stood near the doors to the operating theater, his pistol trained on the barricade. Lt. Barbara Ellison stood beside him and did likewise, shivering a little. Lt. Rebecca Doolittle nervously readied her MP-5, and Senior Airman Roger Coltrane stood ready with his M-16 next to Airman Frank Hodges.

"Ready to get this party started, sir!" said Airman Catherine Rourke, standing between the other orderlies.

"Got three more, Captain!" reported one of the snipers on the radio. "Six of them got past us and are moving around the side of the building to the entrance. Once they get under the overhang we can't shoot them, but we can take out that crawling one."

"Oh, God, here they come!" came the voice of one of the SF troopers oustide the front door on the radio. The sound of bursts of automatic fire came simultaneously from outside and over the airwaves in an eerie echo. "Yeah, he's down!"

"Oh, sh-" started the other one. His agonized scream was cut off after a fraction of a second.

In the operating theater-
Lt. Sara Evans winced when she heard the scream on the radio, a tear trickling down her cheek. WIth her suit in the way, she couldn't wipe it, but there was no time to spare anyway. She raced through the operating theater and the doors to the women's ward with Amanda and Zorie. Beth, Robert, David, and Lisa went with them.

Colin, Keith, and Melinda were not far behind them, and they were close to the women's ward doors now.

In the intake area-
The Air Force defenders stood ready, alarmed at what they could hear happening to the SF troopers guarding the entrance - which was even more alarming because they couldn't see it. There was another quick burst of gunfire, followed by the other man screaming in pain.

In the operating theater-
Keith, Melinda, and Colin continued to follow the group into the women's ward.

In the women's isolation ward-
Sara led the way quickly through the ward to a door on one side. "This way, hurry!" she said, pushing it open and leading the way through. The other civilians followed her into a stairwell that led up and down as Keith, Melinda, and Colin hurried to catch up.

OOC,The civilians don't know what's going on outside, as they don't have radios. Sara knows as much as the people in the intake area do, because she has one (and they can ask her).
In the intake area-
Two rifle shots rang out from the roof, and another burst of automatic fire came from outside, followed by another scream and a thud. Then the gunfire stopped. "My God, they got both of them!" cried Lt. Rebecca Doolittle, nervously clutching her MP-5.

"That means there will be two more joining them," said Senior Airman Roger Coltrane.

"I hope that barricade holds long enough for those reinforcements to get here," said Lt. Barbara Ellison.

In the women's isolation ward-
Colin, Keith, and Melinda followed the others into the stairwell.

On the stairwell-
"That's not going to happen!" shouted Lt. Sara Evans to Colin as she led the way upstairs. "Nobody's going to die here. Anyway, I've only got the one gun, and I'm holding onto it."

"I love a gal who takes charge," said David, running alongside her. "Sara Evans - that's the same name as that country singer, right?"

"Yeah, I get that a lot. I don't even like country music."

"Uh, yeah, me neither. See, we've got a lot in common."

OOC,Yes, there would be medicinal alcohol in here somewhere that could be used as accelerant, and there is plenty of gauze. Make a Spot Hidden roll to see if you can find the alcohol quickly. The intake area is well ventilated.

Keith scanned the area for something he could use as a weapon. An IV hanger to use as a blunt/piecing object, a discarded gun....anything.

In the women's isolation ward-
As Keith ran through the ward on his way to the stairs, he caught sight of an IV stand that would make a suitable blunt instrument. He also spotted a pair of scalpels on a tray of surgical equipment.
OOC,The IV stand is a large club (base skill 25%, 1d8+db damage) and the scalpels are small knives (base skill 25%, 1d4+db damage, can impale). Keith, you may grab either the stand or a scalpel or two, but not both, as you run by into the stairwell.

On the stairwell-
Sara shook her head and called back down to Colin as he hurried up the stairs after her. "You're not going to die, not on my watch," she said. She had her gun in one hand and the keys in the other, and she spoke into the hands-free radio inside her suit. "Snipers on the roof, this is Lt. Evans. I'm bringing the civilians up the fire escape now." She reached the landing and unlocked the door, stepping out onto the fire escape on the south side of the building. The ladder that could be used to descend to the ground was still in the raised position, and narrow stairs led up to the roof of the building.

On the fire escape-
As Sara emerged, she caught sight of two men in dress uniforms below. One of them was crawling on the pavement and had a severe head wound, but there was no blood. The other was shambling a short distance ahead of it, and both of them were fast approaching the southwest corner of the clinic, where the entrance was. They had clearly been dead for quite some time. She kept her cool, hooked the keys on her belt, and gripped her pistol in both hands. "Everyone get up to the roof!" she called, taking aim.

David stepped outside. "Holy moly!" he cried, taken aback at the sight of the uniformed ghouls. His mind buckled, and it only just broke. He broke down and started to cry. Beth followed him out, shaken by the sight but used to it by now. Robert had much the same reaction when he joined her. Zorie emerged and stayed calm, but Amanda freaked out, completely unprepared for the horror. All of her illusions of safety were shattered, and she stopped moving. Lisa remained steady.
OOC,Keith and Melinda, roll Sanity if you join them on the fire escape. Sanity loss is 0/1d10. Colin can join them too, but he does not lose any Sanity for seeing zombies, as he has already lost the maximum of 10 for seeing them recently and is used to the sight.
In the intake area-
As the Air Force personnel waited with their weapons trained on the barricade, the sounds of battle seemed to have stopped. So far nothing had disturbed the barricade. The only noise coming from outside seemed to be an awful chewing sound.
OOC,Gary Simpson, you may make another Spot Hidden roll to try to find the alcohol.

OOC,Unfortunately, Keith only has 17 Sanity and failed that roll. You must have rolled against Frank's Sanity by mistake. You lost 4 Sanity, leaving you with 13, which in this case is lucky. You're still in control of yourself.
On the fire escape-
Keith was shocked by the zombies, but managed to hang onto his wits by a thread. Sara fired twice at the standing zombie's head. The first shot misfired, but the second hit its target and heavily damaged it, though it failed to bring it down. Two rifle shots rang out from the roof above, and one of them finished off the ghoul she had just hit. The one already on the ground crawled around the corner, out of view. "Everyone get up to the roof!" she shouted. "Now!" Beth and Robert hurried up the stairs, and Lisa helped Amanda after them. The older woman didn't resist as she was moved up to the roof. Zorie went next, but David just gripped the rail and wailed "Mommy!"

In the intake area-
The chewing sound continued, but there were also ominous booted footsteps entering the vestibule and slowly approaching it. Then the pounding started. Gurneys were flung aside with ease by two men in dress Air Force uniforms, both of them with rotten flesh that showed they were long dead. These men had given their lives for their country and been buried with honor at the nearby graveyard, but they had risen from their graves to consume the flesh of the living. Once the barricade was destroyed, a third zombie walked into the intake area between them and advanced on the tasty humans. This one was one of the two SF troopers who had been guarding the exit and who had shot Captain Drake. His masticated orange Racal suit was leaking a trail of blood behind him.

Lt. Doolittle cried out in terror when she saw them. and she broke. Certain that she was a goner, she was determined to take them down with her. She opened up with her MP-5 on full auto on all three zombies. Though her shooting was wild, she amazingly riddled two of them with bullets. Only one struck the orange-suited zombie, hitting it right in the heart and exiting through its back. Unfortunately, this creature no longer had need of a heart. The rearmost zombie took six rounds to various parts of its body, but somehow it dragged its mangled self onwards. No blood came from its wounds, only embalming fluid.

Senior Airman Roger Coltrane and Airman Frank Hodges were used to seeing these things by this point, and they remained steady. Captain Johansen stood his ground. "Fire!" he ordered. "Aim for their heads!"

Lt. Barbara Ellison screamed again, but she wasn't affected by the sight too badly. Airman Catherine Rourke calmly raised her rifle. "Let's dance!" she said, excited.
OOC,Frank Hodges does not need to roll Sanity, as he already lost 10 Sanity for seeing zombies recently. I do need Sanity rolls from Lt. Oscar Gomez, Senior Airman Tom Wu, and Airman Gary Simpson. Simpson already lost 9 points for seeing a zombie not long ago, so Sanity loss for him is 0/1. For the others, it's 0/1d10. This means you lose 0 Sanity if you roll your current Sanity score or less on 1d100, but 1d10 points if you roll higher. If you lose 5 or more Sanity, roll Idea to see if you go temporarily insane. Roll 1d100, but in this case you want to fail the roll by getting higher than your Idea score. If you do, you're free to act normally. If you get less than or equal to your Idea, you go temporarily insane and I'll let you know what happens to your character. Provided you remain sane, you have one combat round before the lead zombie reaches you. It has taken 11 damage, and it needs at least 29 damage in general to finish it off, or 10 damage to the head. You may aim at the head by taking a -5 penalty. If your weapon allows more than one shot per round, you must fire all shots at the same target if you aim for the head. A burst cannot be aimed at the head, and each bullet that hits would hit a random body part on 1d20 as in Lt. Doolittle's attack. See the Rules and Guidelines thread for hit location tables. The second and third zombies (in the dress uniforms) will not reach you this round. The second zombie has taken no damage yet, but 10 damage to the head or 40 overall will take it down. The third zombie has taken 34 damage so far, and any hits totalling at least 6 damage will finish it, regardless of hit location. If you withdraw to the operating theater instead of attacking, the zombies will be unable to reach you next round, but the captain did give you an order.
Senior Airman Tom Wu,Remember that you have a -10 penalty on your Sanity roll, so you need to get a 34 or less. If you remain sane, you must roll POW x 5 (45% in your case) or less, or be forced to run away. If you manage to stick around, you may take a shot with your rifle. If you succeed at that POW x 5 roll, you may of course still choose to run.

OOC: Does the M16 get two shots? Is this point blank for a rifle? If so, Franks first shot hits and he will take the second shot at another zed. If not, apply rolls to the first zed accordingly and I will edit my post for continuity

Frank watched as the zombies breached the doors. He focused on the most immediate threat first and fired his rifle. Both shots struck home. Hist first round exploded the head of the first zombie and the second round drove deep into the brain matter of the second, but it still advanced on the party.

OOC,The M-16 only gets one shot per round, or a burst of 3 (though a burst can't be aimed at the head). The stats are listed in the Locations and Weapons thread. Point blank range does not depend on your weapon, but on your DEX (in feet), and the zombies aren't quite that close yet. This means Frank's first and only shot missed. Tom, at least you didn't fail all of your rolls. Of course, you wanted to fail the Idea roll.
Senior Airman Tom Wu,Your temporary insanity isn't automatically running away. Fleeing in terror will replace any result that would cause you to remain frozen in place or otherwise be incapactated, but some results allow you to act and would remain. In this case, it would have been catatonia or stupor, so it does turn into fleeing. That may very well save your life. Your insanity lasts for 13 rounds (including this one), or until someone successfully applies Psychoanalysis to you. You'll make it to the operating theater this round, but it'll take some time before you reach the roof.

OOC,Hey, I'm going to be playing Captain Johansen.
Captain Johansen fires at the zombies, his first shot missing but the second hitting, striking a zombie in the leg, wounding it slightly. This one's for you, Jaclyn...

OOC,Still nothing from Lt. Gomez or Airman Gary Simpson, so I'll roll Sanity for them and go ahead with the update. I'll also roll their attacks if they remain sane, as the captain ordered them to do it, so they'll obey by default.
In the intake area-
Barbara squeezed off two shots, hitting the rearmost zombie with one and wounding it slightly. Combined with Captain Johansen's bullet, that was enough to bring it down. Simpson shook as he raised his M-16 and shot the orange-suited ghoul in the head, felling it. Lt. Oscar Gomez remained calm and shot the only remaining zombie in the head once, the second bullet going wide. It was severely wounded, but still it came. Catherine shot it with her M-16 and blew its skull apart. The bodies fell messily to the floor.

Then another corpse in a dress uniform crawled into the vestibule through the front entrance.
OOC,There's no need to roll Sanity again, as this zombie is part of the same group. Anyone may shoot at the zombie's head this round at normal skill with a -5 penalty. It will only take 2 more damage to the head to finish it.
In the operating theater-
Tom Wu fled in panic from the battle, bursting through the doors into the operating room. To the right were the double doors leading to the women's ward, where he'd find stairs leading up.

On the fire escape-
David flinched when he heard the gunfire and wrapped his arms around Sara, sobbing.

"Oh, brother!" she groaned. "Get a hold of yourself, man!" She slapped him hard, but it only made him cry louder.

On the roof-
The rest of the civilians reached the top of the fire escape and emerged onto the roof. Two men in orange Racal suits with M-24 sniper rifles stood at the southwest corner of the rooftop. A helipad was in the center, apparently for medevac choppers, though the pad was currently empty. Gunfire could be heard from below their position, though no zombies were visible. "This is Airman Wesson!" said one of them into his suit's internal radio. "We have a breach! What's the ETA on our backup?" He nodded and turned to the new arrivals. "They should be here any minute now."

OOC,Thanks for rerolling. Your damage roll can stand as it is, but your hit was 1/5 of your effective skill, which makes it an impale, causing an additional 1d10 damage. For that I'd just use your second damage roll from earlier, but it doesn't matter. Any additional damage would be enough. The zombie is now dead, and you also saved a bullet, as you never needed to fire the second shot.

Airman Simpson, despite recent tanglings with the undead, was shocked enough by the sight of the barricade being breached that he was slower than his colleagues to react. Fortunately, his colleagues dealt with the situation with impressive lethality. Snapping back to focus, Simpson whooped as the last Zombie's head exploded, and threw a disapproving glance at the rapidly-departing Airman Wu.

"Quick! Does anyone see any rubbing alcohol or other flammable liquids anywhere?" he yelled.

Captain Johansen activates his radio. Airman Wesson, this is Captain Johansen. Are there any more infected visible from your position? He turns to Gary Simpson. Airman, go after Wu, and while you're there grab what you need. I don't care if you've gotta knock him out, but bring him here!

Frank paused for a moment and listened for sounds of other zombies in the intake area. He keyed his mic: "Snipers, do we have any more infected inbound or at the base of the building?" He assumed a combat position and began to move towards the breach in the building.
"Come on. We have to gather these weapons and secure the doors."

Captain Johansen shakes his head. Negative, Airman. Reinforcements are incoming, and we don't know how many infected are still outside the doors. Better to let them come forward than use to charge into the unknown.

On the fire escape-
Sara shrugged David off of her and locked the fire escape door. "Follow me when you're done bawling like a baby," she said, scaling the ladder to the roof.

On the roof-
"Negative, Captain," said Airman Wesson into the radio. He and his partner reloaded their rifles. "No more infected as far as the eye can see, but they could be in our blind spot beneath the overhang. I do see our backup incoming from the north, sir."

Lt. Sara Evans emerged onto the roof.

Everyone on the roof could see a Stryker rolling toward the clinic from the north. It entered the parking lot at speed and showed no sign of slowing. It was heading directly for the clinic's wall, weaving erratically.

In the operating theater-
Airman Tom Wu rushed into the women's ward, still in a panic.

In the women's isolation ward-
Tom raced onwards, heading for the stairs.

In the intake area-
As Captain Johansen and the others heard Airman Wesson's reply on the radio, they could also hear the sound of the approaching Stryker outside. Frank Hodges could see Captain Drake's body still lying in the vestibule now that the barricade had been destroyed. Before he could react further, two zombies stumbled through the entrance into the vestibule. One was in a dress uniform, his flesh sagging on his bones. The other was an orange-suited SF trooper, the other man who had been guarding the door. His suit had been bitten through in more than one place. They both came right for Frank.
OOC,If Frank doesn't spend his action this round retreating back to the rear of the intake area, the zombies will get to attack him this round. There is no need to roll Sanity, as these zombies are part of the same group as the others. Everyone in the intake area has one combat round to fire at the zombies (or do something else). If you aim at the head, then your shots will take effect after the zombies attack Frank if he doesn't move. If he does move, there's no problem. Otherwise, you'll have to roll 1d20 for a hit location for each bullet that hits if you want to shoot the zombies first. Frank Hodges is currently at point blank range if he chooses to fire, but he has no time to aim at the head.

"Wu can wait, Sir!" Simpson bawled, as he raised his rifle and shot the Zombie nearest him in the head with his M16A2. "Get outta there, Frank!" he yelled as blood and brain matter sprayed out from the Zombie's skull.
OOC,Invisible Castle's down - I got a 41 to-hit then a 13 for damage and I'm aware the Zombie gets its attack anyway but I'm banking on Frank running like a girl!

Seeing the infected coming for him, Frank retreated to the barricade. "Incoming," he said with a laugh.

In the intake area-
Lt. Rebecca Doolittle fired a burst at the zombie with her MP-5 that emptied her magazine, but it went wide. Lt, Barbara Ellison also fired at the same time, only to miss as well. Roger Coltrane missed too, and so did Lt. Gomez, but only narrowly. Catherine Rourke scored a solid hit, dropping the other zombie. "Yeah!" she cheered. "I think that's all of them."

In the women's isolation ward-
Tom Wu sprinted into the stairwell, terrified.

In the stairwell-
Airman Wu burst into the stairwell, the door slamming against the wall as he shoved it open.

On the roof-
Sara nodded and spoke into the radio. "They're entering the lot now, sir!" she said. "Driver of the Stryker, this is Lt. Sara Evans. What's the problem?" She paused, but there was no response. Then the Stryker collided with the west wall of the building at an angle. The armored personnel character was severely damaged, but remained somewhat intact as it slid southwards along the side of the wall, skidding to a halt near the main entrance. "God, NO!"

In the intake area-
Everyone heard the noise of metal on stone and the screech of the vehicle as it ground along the wall. It was not visible from within the building, but that was more merciful than anything.
OOC,That's the end of Chapter 4! Chapter 5 in Gold will begin at the exact same point, but in the meantime you're left with this cliffhanger.
