Z-Day - 4:13 PM Central Time - Brooks High School, Omaha, Nebraska
In the entry hall-
Jerry Law sat at his post behind the security desk in the wide front hall. The metal detector stood in front of the now barricaded front entrance. The fence hadn't been breached since it had been electrified, but there was no point in taking any chances. Anyone who wanted to enter or leave had to use the various fire exits around the school. He had disabled the automatic fire alarm on the doors so it wouldn't go off and annoy everyone, and one door at the back was propped open so those outside could get back in in the event of an emergency. Nobody else was here at the moment, but during a normal school day the front hall saw a lot of traffic. The front door was to the south, and hallways left to the east, west, and north.

In the entry hall-
Jerry's cell phone hadn't been able to receive a signal since early this morning, but he checked it again just in case. There were still no bars. The landline was still working, though. He picked up the phone at the desk and dialed 911. He got the same recording that he had gotten every time he had called today: "This is Omaha 911. Due to the state of emergency, all personnel are currently occupied. You are advised to remain in your home and await evacuation. Stay calm, do not venture outside to try to reach loved ones, and do not attempt to take matters into your own hands. If possible, climb onto the roof of your home with whatever emergency supplies are available. Rest assured that the authorities are doing all they can to resolve this crisis, and rescue is coming as soon as possible."

The fluorescent lights overhead flickered briefly. They had done that several times before, when the dead touched the electric fence. It was getting more frequent as time went by.

OOC: Did Jerry has a inventory of all weapons (guns, axes, whateaver) available? If not, he will try to reunite then, and then try to create a small taks force to help in any emergency.

In the entry hall-
Jerry Law went over in his head all the weapons he knew of at the school. In addition to his nightstick, there were two more locked up in a cabinet in the security office close by, to which only he had the key. He knew that Rachel Cohen, the head of security for the CDC scientists in the lab upstairs, had a Desert Eagle. Not only that, but her body was itself a deadly weapon, and her mind perhaps even moreso. It might be a good idea for the two of them to work together on any defense of the school. Officer Kate Wheeler, who was currently patrolling the school grounds outside, carried a Glock 17 and a nightstick of her own. Chuck and Emily Lubachek from the garage across the street from the school had brought their own revolvers, and Chuck also had a shotgun and a knife. The principal carried a baseball bat with him at all times, especially now. In addition, there were several knives in the cafeteria's kitchen, and there were tools in Donald Woodridge's maintenance shed and atheltic supplies in the gym that would make effective weapons. The groundskeeper had a couple of axes and a chainsaw in his shed, and the athletic supply closet contained several bats, hockey sticks, and fencing swords, as well as a few bows and some arrows. Coach Ron Moore had the key to that closet.

While Jerry was considering these things, the lights flickered again and went out. This had happened before once nearly an hour ago, but they had come back on almost immediately. As the seconds passed, he realized that this time they were staying out. Fortunately it was still daylight for a few more hours, so visibility wasn't a problem, but now there was no power to the electric fence. The generator in the basement, which could be reached by the north stairwell, had to have failed.

OOC: Are the doors of the school still closed? Can he run to close them before the zombies break the fance?

OOC,The front doors are barricaded, and all of the fire exits are closed except for one. That one is in the gym, and it is currently propped open so that people who are still outside can get back in. The fire exits automatically lock when they're closed, and they're pretty strong. The fence is strong too, so you know you've got some time before the zombies break through it. You can get to the gym by going down the hall leading north, toward the back of the school.

In the lobby-
As Jerry Law headed to the north hall, which led to the gym, he heard the voice of Officer Kate Wheeler squawk on his walkie-talkie: "10-59, Code Three! Adam One responding to large party of ghouls, northwest fence. Firing weapon, 10-81, over!" Then he heard the voice of Dr. Helene Saunders on the walkie-talkie: "Adam, the generator in the basement is down! It must be repaired ASAP!"
