IC-THRU-Aftermath(Chapter 1 and 2 characters except Luke)

Z-Day - 12:17 PM Mountain Time - At the motel
In the comm room-
Lt. Angela Blanco and Airman Alexandria Mikhalin remained in the motel room that had been turned into a communications suite, on the southwest corner of the upper level. Lying dead on the floor were the bodies of Captain Maurice Lereux and Lt. Elizabeth Malone. Her superiors had turned on each other, the captain had killed Malone, and then Mikhalin had shot the captain dead in revenge. Then they had risen up and attacked the living. Many were dead and wounded, and Blanco was left in command. She was currently talking with Lt. Colonel Carmichael back at Warren AFB, using an antiquated array of equipment that was one of the few functioning communications nodes left in the world now that the more modern satellite networks were down.

"Sir, I've got wounded to attend to," she said into the microphone. "I'll put Ramirez on with you."

On the motel's roof-
Image
Sergeant Sam Black and Airman Bobby Sheen watched as the helicopter drew nearer from the northwest, relieved that help was on the way at last. Their relief turned to alarm as, only a few hundred yards from the motel, the already low-flying bird entered a steep dive.

On the motel balcony-
Zorie Spooner stepped off the ladder and onto the east side of the balcony, carrying the toolbox and her medical kit. She headed south to go help the wounded. Airman Steve Phillips had already rounded the corner, but he was moving slowly due to his own wounds.

Javier Ramirez stood just outside the comm room door on the southwest corner when he heard Lt. Blanco call: "Ramirez, I need you back in here to talk to the colonel and keep an eye on Mikhalin while I go treat the wounded!"

David and Wallace leaned against the wall to the north of the comm room door. "You okay, man?" asked David. Wallace could tell he was not okay. The dead officer's teeth had only barely punctured the flesh of his stomach, but the wound felt like it was on fire.

Acting Senior Airman Carlos Duran lay moaning on the corner of the balcony. He had been bitten twice during the battle, and was in considerable pain. "Another victory like this and we'll be ruined," he managed through gritted teeth, quoting Pyrrhus. It was indeed a pyrrhic victory, and he knew he was done for, but he was determined to do what he could to protect the others as long as he lived. His friend Acting Senior Airman Manuel Ortega and Airman Igor Malanowski stood next to him.

(If you want to treat one of Duran or Wallace's injuries, roll First Aid and specify who you're helping. A successful roll will restore 1d3 HP, up to a maximum of the total damage taken in each injury. Each of Duran's bites was for 4 damage, and Wallace's bite was only 1 damage, so any success will heal him to full HP. A failed roll means nothing happens. If you do not have First Aid on your character sheet, the base skill level is 30%.)

On the dirt road-
Baldwin came to his senses as he wandered north along the road. His guts were hanging out of his gaping abdominal wound, and he suddenly wondered what he was doing. Painfully, he turned around and staggered south, back towards the truck he had abandoned after two of its tires had been shot out.

On the motel balcony-
Rameriz steps into the comm room.

In the Comm Room-
"Yes sir." He goes over to the radio making sure to keep a close eye on Mikhalin.
"What do you want to know sir?'

On the Roof of the Motel-
"Shit!" Over the radio he informs the others. "We have a situation up here the Heli
just entered a steep dive."

Sheen got on his radio and said, "The helicopter carrying our relief is going into a steep dive. Warning Warning Warning." He then got on his rifle and said, "I will keep my rifle trained on the helicopter in case it crashes since we all know that if anyone dies then they may come back like those creatures."

Igor spreads out his gun and ammo on a table, and inspects everything. If necessary, he will dismantle and clean his gun, also insuring that he has a proper count of available ammo.

In the comm room-
Mikhalin stood nervously as Ramirez took his position and watched her, crossing her arms and looking down at her feet.

"What's everyone's status, Ramirez?" asked Carmichael. "How many dead, how many wounded, how many unaccounted for?"

Igor Malanowski stepped into the comm room since there was no furniture on the balcony unless you counted the makeshift barricades currently blocking all the stairways. Access to the ground could be made via the rope ladder hanging from the southwest corner, the two ladders on the east side, or the zipline on the east side - or by jumping the rail if someone were desperate. He laid out his weapons on a table and inspected them. His own M-4 carbine was broken, but could perhaps be repaired once Zorie Spooner brought the tools. Unfortunately, Airman Lewis was among the dead, and none of the other Air Force personnel had the skills. Perhaps one of the civilians could do it, or maybe the new arrivals.

The M-4 he had borrowed from Sergeant Sam Black was still in good working order. He had partially used the magazine, so he took the opportunity to replace it with a full one. He also still had his Beretta, which was fully loaded, and the one he had taken from Mikhalin after she had killed the captain. Two shots had been fired from that one. He had a total of 255 5.56mm rounds for his carbine and 73 9mm bullets.

A sudden loud crashing sound not far to the northwest of the motel got everyone's attention.

On the motel's roof-
Black and Sheen watched helplessly as the Huey plowed noisily into the tall grass and struck the ground at a 45 degree angle. It dug a furrow into the earth as its momentum carried it forwards, until it stopped moving in a mangled heap about fifty yards northwest of the motel, not far from the edge of the grass. As the sound died down, they could also hear the roar of approaching vehicles from the south. They sounded like a mix of motorcycles and light trucks.

(Roll Spot Hidden if you want to see into the grass, at a -5% penalty due to your helmet. You can turn and see what the noise to the south is without rolling. Each of you can only look at one or the other.)

On the motel balcony-
Lt. Blanco emerged from the comm room and rushed over to aid Duran. She disinfected and bound one of his wounds rather well.

Duran tried to help her with his own wounds, but he was in too much pain to make any progress. Ortega was able to assist and managed to bind his second wound very well.

Wallace borrowed some bandages and disinfectant and treated his own wound.

Zorie Spooner and Steve Phillips arrived at the southwest corner at around the same time. Before they could do anything to help anyone, the helicopter hit the ground with a screech of tearing metal. Everyone on the balcony could also hear the vehicles coming from the south.

(Roll Spot Hidden if you want to see the crashed helicopter in the field of grass. If you have a Kevlar helmet, remember the -5% penalty.)

On the dirt road-
Baldwin painfully made his way back to the south and towards his truck.

In the Comm Room-
"What's going on out there?" After reciving his answer he replies over the radio to Carmichael. "Sir we have a problem the helicopter you sent us just crashed about 50 yards northwest of our position."

On the Roof-
"The helicopter just went down about 50 yards to the northwest ." Black looks over at the crash site. "We're going to have send some troops over there asap in case there were any casulties. The last thing we want is to have more of those things eat our only renforcements."

On the motel roof-
Black could see the twisted wreckage. One man lay bleeding in the grass a short distance south of it, unmoving. He had lieutenant's bars on his shoulders. Smoke was starting to rise from the ruined helicopter and prevented him from seeing inside. He was even able to see another man lying in the grass about a hundred yards northwest of the crash site. This one, an airman, didn't move either.

In the comm room-
Carmichael muttered something filthy under his breath. "You've got to save those men!" he said.

On the Roof of the Motel-
Black Keeps an eye on the two men. "Sheen can you see the man with lieutenant's bars? Keep an eye on him and if he starts moving prepare to take
him out. I'll keep an eye on the other one." Black aims his rifle at the other airman making sure to aim for the head.

In the Comm Room-
"Will do sir." He turns to Malanowski "How many others are in fighting condition out there?"

Igor turned away from his M-4, picking up his radio and flicking it so he communicate with Black. "Sir. With all due respect, I advise that we do not leave the motel. There are hundreds of those...things out there. Some of the crew are sure to have turned by the time we get there. They'll be on those that survived faster than flies on horse shit. Plus, even if we were to get to them in time, we'll have to escort wounded out. The smell of blood will bring these things onto our scent, and will compromise the barricades. Plus, the tall grass...it'll be like impala and tigers. Only there are hundreds of tigers, and they need a bullet through the brain to die.

I recommend getting a fire team on the roof. We'll observe to see if there are any survivors, and provide cover fire and support if there are any. If someone does manage to make it out of the field, we'll send a team to escort them back here."

OOC - Will I need a Persuade/Bargain roll?

(OOC: No roll is needed here. Black is a PC, so it's up to his player what he does and what orders he gives. He is in charge of defense and outranks everyone except Ramirez - played by the same player - and Lt. Blanco, who has left the defenses up to him. Generally social skills cannot be used on PCs, with the possible exception of Fast Talk.)

Wallace successfully bandages his wounds. His adriniline began to fade; the crushing reality of what had just happened - and the events that had transpired in the past hours. He had tried to tell himself that the bite was non-fatal; but he knew it was foolhearty to try and ignore his surroundings- to ignore those... things.

The wound burned, and the alcahol in the disinfectant only further agitated the wound.

"...Honest question... Anyone have a smoke?" He asks, gripping his handgun with one hand, and wipes the sweat from his brow with his other hand.

On the Roof of the Motel-

Not taking his eye off the downed man Black mutters under his breath.
"I miss the days when everybody was trying to be a hero." Over the radio he replies
"Alright soldier here's what I want you to do see if you can get anyone who has been already bitten
to volenter to help them. After that get a team ready to provide that covering fire you mentioned earlier
their going to need it."

In the Comm Room-

"Hey Mikhalin how would you like to be a hero?"

In the comm room-
Mikhalin frowned at Ramirez, weighing her options. "I haven't been bitten, just shot," she said. "I'm still wounded, and I'm not quite sure what you want me to do or what I can do to help. Will I get my gun back?"

(Ramirez, roll Fast Talk if you want to convince her to volunteer - things are happening too fast to use Persuade. You can always order her to go without having to roll as well.)

On the motel balcony-
"I'll go down," said Steve Phillips over the radio as he swung over the balcony's railing and climbed down the rope ladder. "They're gonna need a medic..."

"I'll come too," said Carlos Duran as he waited his turn. "I've got your six."

Lt. Blanco and Zorie Spooner stood ready to receive the wounded. "Ma'am," said Zorie, "we might need to go down there to treat the wounded. Some of them might be in no condition to climb this ladder."

Lt. Blanco nodded. "Yes, and if they've been bitten it's best not to bring them upstairs anyway. We'll have to use the medic's room, directly below us."

The roar of the vehicles got closer, and those on the balcony saw a pack of motorcycles and light trucks rolling across the open ground towards the parking area on the west side of the motel and the crashed helicopter. The first two bikes sped across I-80, one driven by an old man with gray hair and a matching beard. A younger man with blond hair rode on his right hand. A very attractive woman rode behind him, her arms around him. All three wore short-sleeved leather jackets. Behind them came a blue Ford F150 and a maroon Dodge Ram. The sounds of more vehicles could be heard, but the motel blocked everyone's view of them for now. Smoke rose from the crash site above the top of the grass.

(Everyone on the balcony may roll Spot Hidden to try to see into the grass. Also roll Listen. Remember to deduct the -5% penalty from both if you have a helmet.)

On the motel's roof-
Sam Black watched the distant airman through the scope of his Barrett. So far he did not move. While the man had a helmet on, it would barely slow down a .50 round if he needed to fire.

Bobby Sheen kept watch on the lieutenant lying facedown in the grass near the wreckage. That man didn't move yet either. He didn't have a helmet on.

(Each of you may also roll Listen, with a -5% penalty from your helmet.)

On the dirt road-
Baldwin backtracked his path down the road until he finally reached his truck.

On the motel roof-
Sam Black watched the airman a hundred yards northwest of the chopper. He slowly sat up and looked around, then pulled himself to his feet and stumbled southeast, towards the wreckage.

Bobby Sheen saw a motorcycle roll through the grass and stop between the lieutenant and the ruined chopper. A man and a young woman in leather jackets rode it. The woman climbed off and knelt over the lieutenant. A moment later, he began to stir.

(Each of you roll Spot Hidden to see more details, remembering the -5% penalty.)

On the motel balcony-
Duran followed Phillips down the ladder to the parking area below.

The group of vehicles crossed the parking lot, and most of them parked in the northwest corner, nearest the wreckage. Five Harleys stopped there, along with the blue Ford F150, the maroon Dodge Ram, a gray Chevy S10 with a horse trailer hitched to the back, and a white Outlander. The bikers began to dismount, another one got out of the F150, and a middle-aged man in ordinary clothes stepped out of the SUV. A sixth Harley, this one with a man and a young woman riding it, continued into the grass and stopped right near the wrecked chopper.

Wallace saw the woman climb off the bike and kneel over the lieutenant. A moment later, he began to stir.

(Everyone roll Spot Hidden if you want to see more details in the grass, and roll Listen if you want to try to hear what's going on down there. Remember the -5% penalty to each if you are wearing a helmet.)

West of the motel-
Phllips began to limp across the parking lot, towards the vehicles and the helicopter beyond them. Duran reached the bottom of the ladder and began to follow.

In the comm room-
"Any updates on the situation with the helicopter?" asked Carmichael.

On the dirt road-
Baldwin climbed back into his truck through the still open door. Though he wouldn't be able to drive it with the two punctured tires, he did find what he was looking for: a basic first aid kit. He managed to stop the bleeding and sewed up his wound fairly well.

In the comm room-

On the motel's roof-
Sheen's excellent shot hit the dirt right in front of the airman's feet without touching the man at all. Oddly, the airman didn't even seem to notice and continued to trudge slowly through the grass towards the wreckage. He was about 85 yards away at this point.

(Bobby Sheen, you actually have a rifle skill of 82%, not 61%. You may not fire again this round, as the M-24 can only be fired every other round. Sam Black, you may fire if you wish, under the same conditions as before.)

Northwest of the motel-
One of the men in leather jackets ran off into the grass towards the wreckage. "Thanks, I'll be careful," he said, blowing a kiss to the woman in the passenger seat of his truck.

Phillips reached the vehicles in the parking lot as Duran limped across the parking area to catch up. He approached the new arrivals. "I'm Airman Steve Phillips," he managed, out of breath. "This is Senior Airman Carlos Duran behind me." He pointed him out. "Keep your distance, this is dangerous."

The old biker with the gray beard nodded to him respectfully. "I'm Clarence Deeds," he said. "U.S. Marine Recon, retired. My boys and I are no strangers to danger, and it looks like you can use our help."

More gunfire erupted from within the helicopter.

On the motel balcony-
Wallace saw the woman help the lieutenant to his feet. He spoke to the man in the leather jacket and then both men ran to the chopper and vanished behind the curtain of smoke. Another man in a leather jacket who looked similar to the first one ran into the grass from the parking area and reached the woman. He unslung a rifle and continued towards the chopper.

In the comm room-
Malanowski knew that Phillips and Duran had both been bitten, but wasn't sure if anyone else had. Captain Maurice Lereux and Lt. Elizabeth Malone both lay dead on the floor, the latter having been shot dead by the former. The captain had been slain by Airman Alexendria Mikhalin. She had a wounded arm. He of all people ought to know, as he had shot her. The bodies would need to be removed from the premises after anything of value was salvaged from them.

Out on the balcony were several corpses: Sergeant McCain, Airman Thayer, Airman Lewis, and three civilians. Another of the civlians had been wounded but had run away. Airman Justin Hockey was MIA, having deserted his post when the dead attacked the motel several minutes before the infighting started. His last radio contact had stated he was going into the secret facility under the diner to help the civilians, but that had been over ten minutes ago and there had been nothing from him since.

Northeast of the motel-
Baldwin got back out of his truck and looked over the damage. "Damn fool shot my tires out," he muttered. "Coulda killed me. I ever find the bastard who did that..." He doubled over in pain from his wound. "Gotta get back to the motel." He moved southwest as quickly as his wounds would allow, heading for the ladders.

On the motel's roof-
The airman appeared not to notice at all the .50 round that came close to taking his head off. He continued his slog towards the ruined helicopter, and was now just over 75 yards away.

(Black and Sheen, each of you may fire again this round.)

Northwest of the motel-
One of the new arrivals who had the look of a cowboy tipped his hat to Phillips and Duran. "Was that there your boys' rescue party in that downed chopper?" he asked. "Guess we can all kiss goodbye to a lift outta this shitstorm now."

Duran jogged up to join his comrade and nodded to the cowboy. "They're reinforcements sent here to help us, sir, not to evacuate us," he said. "Now we've got to help them."

"My boys are already helping get the wounded out of the wreckage," said Clarence. "You can count on them. We all have to work together if we're going to get through this."

Phillips jogged off into the grass towards the wreckage. Duran followed him. "Thank you, sir," he called back. "I just hope they watch out for the dead!"

"The dead?" asked an aging female biker with gray hair. "You mean those things...are dead?"

On the motel balcony-
Wallace watched as the second man in leather reached the chopper and stepped inside through the smoke. David left his side and entered the comm room.

In the comm room-
Alexandria Mikhalin looked up as David entered, rubbing her wounded arm. She had a vacant look in her eyes.

Northeast of the motel-
Baldwin crossed the open ground and neared the motel parking lot. He had gotten halfway to the ladders.

(The airman's helmet absorbed 5 points of that damage, so that shot only did 8. Black, go ahead and shoot if you want to finish him off.)

On the motel roof-
Sheen could see that the airman was not in fact down for good. The bullet had knocked him off of his feet, but he somehow continued to crawl forward. There could be no doubt that it was one of the creatures.

In the comm room-
As Malanowski had also recalled, Lereux and Malone were dead in the comm room, and McCain, Thayer, Lewis, and three civilians were dead on the balcony. Mikhalin had a wounded arm, Duran had been bitten twice, and Phillips had also been bitten twice about 50 minutes ago. One of the civilians had been wounded too and had run off, and Hockey was still missing. His last call had indicated that he was headed down beneath the diner to help the civilians.

In the Comm Room-

"No just shot." Rameriz replies to the question.

In the comm room-
"Yeah, he shot me," said Mikhalin, indicating Malanowski with the thumb of her good arm. "I didn't believe Captain Lereux had really killed Lt. Malone by accident, but I was holding him at gunpoint when the shooting started again on the balcony and...I pulled the trigger. It was a reflex action, just like what he said happened to him. The bullet killed him instantly."

"Hockey hasn't reported back in?" asked Carmichael. "That doesn't sound good. Once this situation with the helicopter is resolved and the wounded are treated it may be worthwhile to look for him. There's a Lt. Alan Curtis aboard that helicopter. If he survives, I'll need him to report in to me as soon as he can. Any news from the rest of the world?"

Mikhalin reviewed the incoming messages and monitoring equipment. "Looks like it's just the usual, sir," she said. "No further nuclear detonations have been detected since the last one. If anything, the destruction has started to decrease a bit, but that may just be because there's not as much left to destroy."

(Phillips and Duran are moving to this thread: Iroquois Down)

In the comm room-
"Okay," said Lt. Colonel Carmichael on the other end of the line. "When you get a chance, you should salvage whatever gear you can from the bodies and then dump them off the balcony. Can't be too sanitary keeping them around, especially if they were infected. I'd have Lt. Blanco and Zorie Spooner take care of the salvaging and disposal. Don't want to risk touching the dead if you're unprotected."

On the motel's roof-
Black saw the airman's head get blown to bits when the round from the Barrett hit it. The gunfire from the helicopter ceased as well.

(Black and Sheen, you may each roll Spot Hidden if you want to take a look around. Indicate which direction you're looking in and remember the -5% penalty from your helmets. You may also roll Listen to try to hear the conversation in the parking lot, again with a -5% penalty. Sheen, you may want to reload - your rifle has only one bullet remaining, in its chamber.)

On the motel balcony-
"All clear!" shouted a man's voice from the field of grass where the chopper had gone down.

"Prepare to receive wounded!" shouted Phillips from the parking area.

"Okay, I'm going down," Lt. Angela Blanco said to Zorie Spooner. "Follow me." She began to climb down the ladder. Zorie deposited the tool kit in the comm room and then waited her turn at the top of the ladder.

(Anyone on the balcony may roll Spot Hidden to look into the grass and/or Listen to hear the conversation in the parking lot to the northwest. Remember, these rolls have a -5% penalty if you have a Kevlar helmet.)

East of the motel-
Baldwin finally reached the base of the ladders on the east side of the motel and began to climb the shorter one to the balcony.

The Comm Room-

"I agree right now they are going to treat wounded from the crash."

On the Roof-

Black looks at the new arrivals but doesn't notice anything.
However his ears make out some of the conversation in the parking lot.

Sheen noticed that his rifle only had one more bullet left and that it was in the chamber. He loaded another clip into his rifle.
He looked to the east through his scope to see if he saw anything. "Hey Sarge, there is something out there to the east, can you take a look at it?" He also tried to listen to the conversation below in the parking lot but the wind was blowing against him and he could not hear a thing.

David walks over to Alexandria and gives her his most winning and disarming smile. Roll for persuade = 12. Link =http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1524583/. He says, "I don't want to get in the way, or anything, but is there anything here I can help you with? You look kind of swamped, I mean you, and I just wanted to help a little if I can. I know I can't do a lot, but if you just let me hang around a little, maybe I could catch on and...be your assistant or something."

(If you want to know how to turn your rolls into hyperlinks, there are instructions in the first post in the Rules and Guidelines thread.)

In the comm room-
"Well," said Alexandria Mikhalin, "most of the people who were working with me are dead now. Captain Lereux, Lt. Malone, Nethaniel Lewis..." She sniffled a little. "Malanowski and Ramirez know how to use the equipment, but they're likely to have other duties to keep them busy too. If you know anything about electronics, I could use your help." She managed a smile. "Thank you, I think I'd like that." She looked at Javier Ramirez. "Uh, with your permission, sir."

On the motel's roof-
Sergeant Black heard some of the conversation in the parking lot below:

"Prepare to receive wounded!" called Phillips.

"You guys planning to stick around here?" asked Duran.

"Not for long," replied an unfamiliar, gravelly male voice. "We were hoping to refuel and maybe trade for supplies, then we'll be on our way. Got to keep moving, stay ahead of the hordes. Not sure why you boys are holding your position."

"This position must be held, otherwise we wouldn't be here. We've got orders. I'm not at liberty to say more, sir."

"Well, that's very commendable of you," said a woman. "I can help with your wounded. I'm a nurse, and I've got lots of experience - guess that's obvious."

"I bet you could help out too, honey," said another woman. "Not just their physical wounds, I mean. Judging from that screaming, they're pretty shaken up."

"I know what you mean," said a man. "I couldn't even see what happened, but my teeth are already on edge."

"It'll be all right, man," replied another male voice.

"That's everyone!" called a man from within the grassy field. "Fall back to the motel before it blows!"

He heard the roar of a motorcycle starting up, and a second later it emerged from the grass. A woman in a leather jacket drove it, and tall man in leather rode with a bewildered look on his face rode on the back. Two airmen walked out of the grass next, bringing a female pilot with her arms around their shoulders.

Bobby Sheen peered to the east through his scope. Close to the ruined diner, he saw Luke on the garage roof shoot the last few zombies crawling through the low grass. Farther out, he saw another horde of them off in the distance, between 80 and 90 in number. They were a mile and a half from the diner now, and they were shambling slowly closer.

(You may each roll Spot Hidden and Listen again. Remember the -5% penalty, and remember to specify which way you're looking.)

On the motel balcony-
Zorie Spooner climbed down the rope ladder on the southwest corner to join Lt. Blanco in the parking lot. Meanwhile, Baldwin climbed up the metal ladder on the east and onto the balcony.

West of the motel-
"I'm Lt. Angela Blanco!" she called. "I'm in charge here. Bring the wounded this way. We'll use the downstairs rooms for triage. My assistant Zorie Spooner and I will check everyone in turn. Nobody goes up to the balcony until you've been screened by one of us to make sure you haven't been bitten."

In the Comm Room-

Ramirez turns to David "Sure just follow any orders you recive." Rameriz gestures towards the dead bodies "If you want you can take everything of use off the dead bodies then move the bodies to the balcony if you don't mind."

On the Roof-

"Sure." Black looks east through his scope seeing what Sheen had asked him to look at. Focusing on what he was seeing he did not hear anything. Over the radio he informs the others about the incoming zombies.
"Everyone be advised that we have group of about 85 or so zombies aproching this location. They are currently about a mile and a half away now."

Sheen turned his eyes and scope to the north and looked through it to see what he could see. However he did not see anything to the north which did not mean there was nothing there of course. "Sir, I do not see anything to the north but there could be something there, can you take a look?" Bobby also tried to hear the converation down in the parking lot again. This time the wind was with him and he heard the converation as plain as day.

David responds to Ramirez reluctantly,"None of these are zombies are they? I mean, I might catch something offa the zombies. No problem with the non-zombies, but you know...gotta be careful. After that can I help with the electronics stuff? I know a little bit, you know moved some on the Coast, so I got curious and learned a little bit(39% electronics).

"That's all right just get weapons off the bodies and put them on the table." Ramirez tells David.

In the comm room-
"Let me know if Lt. Curtis is okay as soon as you find out," said Carmichael over the communications network. "Once the doctor gives him a clean bill of health, send him up to check in with me."

"Actually, both the captain and the lieutenant did get up and try to eat everyone after they died," Mikhalin told David, "but they're dead for good now. I imagine the same thing happened out on the balcony. I can show you how to use this equipment when you're ready."

David looked over the bodies in the comm room. Lt. Elizabeth Malone had an MP-5 submachine gun with five spare magazines, as well as a Sig Sauer P-226 9mm automatic pistol and three spare magazines. Captain Lereux's only weapon was the Colt Viper .38 revolver he had borrowed from Baldwin. It had three bullets remaining, and he had one extra bullet. He also wore a heavy Kevlar vest and a Kevlar helmet. Both had bullet impact marks.

David also recalled that his own gun, a Sig Sauer P-220, was running very low on ammo. He had three 9mm bullets currently loaded, and a spare magazine contained five bullets out of a maximum of eight.

(David, if you want to try to learn how to use the communications gear now, roll Electronics. If you're going to do something else instead, don't roll.)

On the motel's roof-
(You didn't actually mention the direction the zombies were coming from, but I guess everyone can figure it out.)

Sam Black saw the horde that Bobby Sheen had described. It was less than a mile and a half to the east of the diner and closing slowly. At this range he still had a pretty decent chance of hitting them, but ammo was a concern too. He had 92 .50 rounds on him, with another hundred or so in the ammo crate on the north side of the balcony. Everybody had been too busy to bring the magazines up to the roof. The creatures would reach the diner between fifteen and twenty minutes from now.

Bobby Sheen heard more of the conversation in the parking lot.

"Thank God you're back safe!" said the woman who had said she was a nurse. "Is Keith coming?"

"They're coming..." muttered another woman.

There was some small talk among some of the people below, but with everyone talking all at once it was hard to follow everything. One man mentioned that people in the chopper had been getting "bitey." Another offered to help with the wounded and asked a woman to look after his boy. The man with the grizzled voice mentioned leading some of his people over to the diner to look for people, fuel, and supplies while the others helped the wounded.

"That's right, ma'am," said a male voice. "The others got out of the chopper, and they're coming."

The woman who had said that raised her voice. "No, you don't understand! Not them! Them! I know they're out there!"

"Everyone get back!" called the man who had shouted a warning before. "That bird is about to go up!"

"She's right, they're coming!" yelled a man who hadn't spoken before. "I saw them as we were approaching. There were about fifty or sixty of them in the grass a mile off, heading this way. They were moving slow, but they've got to be closer by now. Oh God, there they are! They'll be here within five minutes!"

Duran spoke over the radio, alerting all the Air Force personnel: "Be advised, we've got more of them coming from the west! Between 50 and 60, ETA 5 minutes or less."

(Black and Sheen, you may roll Spot Hidden to try to see the zombies in the grass. Since you have a Kevlar helmet, remember that there's a -5% penalty. If you see them, you may begin shooting if you wish. The current range is approximately 550 yards, so both snipers may use their full skill with only the -5% penalty for aiming at the head. If you succeed at your Spot Hidden check, you have four combat rounds to shoot. Sheen's rifle has a slower rate of fire, so he only gets two shots in those four rounds. Black could also shoot at the zombies to the east at half skill, but they're much further away.)

On the motel balcony-
Ortega looked up in alarm when he heard the announcements on the radio.

(Ortega and Wallace may also roll Spot Hidden, with a -5% penalty for Ortega due to his helmet. If they succeed, they may each take four shots. Ortega is at half skill since his M-16 has better range, but Wallace is at 1/4 skill. The -5% penalty for aiming at the head applies after the skill is divided.)

Sheen peered through his scope at the waving grass but he could not see a darn thing. "Sgt, I cannot see anything do you see what they are talking about and if so can you help me see it?"

david removes the ammo for the weapon he had and pocketed it. The rest of the weapons and ammo he put in a pile where the other people could see it. "Here's what I got offa them. See if any of you could use it. If not, I'd like to see if I could do something with the electronics here." David looks at the equipment and scratches his head in dumbfoundment,"Geesh, guess it's changed a lot since I played with it." 100 on his roll. link=http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1531429/
