Submissions?? - but not for the competition.

Dark imaginings of that which lies hidden behind the veil of reality, terrible tales of woe and horror of those to whom the true nature of the universe was revealed, or revelations of the times when the stars are right? Fiction or Fact? This forum is for Cthulhu and Horror fan fiction. Do you have a story to share?

Submissions?? - but not for the competition.

Post by DSIGFUSS »

So is this the place where you submit your short stories? Or are we just posting Lovecraft and other related works. WHat is the criteria for posting a story. This sounds like fun. I'm not a nig Lovecraft guy but I'd love to read a couple of the stories and base a piece of short fiction after one of them. The stories that Welsh posted were perect for this sort of thing.

Anyways.. what are the rules. I love the idea of this thread?

From the horse's mouth :

Check out Terrible Tales, etc. Our Fan fiction forum.. Who knows, perhaps a fan fiction competition is in the works?

As all Cthulhu fiction is really fan fiction, I've started by posting a few odds and ends I have come across on line.

But please- you are encouraged to post your own stories, poems, songs, or dark visions.
I think this is a great idea! I'm totally submitting one.

Looking forward to your submissions.

Note- you can also submit poems, drawings, photography (your picture of Dagon?), scripts, etc.

Only major rule- it has to be your work. Don't copy someone else's. However, feel free to post a link to something that catches your eye if you think the rest of the community would enjoy it.

I ask that if you submit a story that you start a new post. This way people can discuss your stories with you. Have fun-

DSIGFUSS, if you want to read Lovecraft's stories, and I would definitely recomend doing that before doing Mythos writing, they can be found at:
http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Author:Ho ... _Lovecraft
or
http://terror.snm-hgkz.ch/lovecraft/html/
or at The Temple of Dagon Online, or a dozen other places.

I would advise reading them chronologically, skipping the juvenalia (everything before The Beast in the Cave-those are the stories written by him when he was a very young child, and so of nothing more than historical interest). A list can be found at: http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/fiction/chrono.asp

However, unless I have horrible misunderstood things, this forum is for posting your own Mythos fiction, or fanfiction, if that makes you more comfortable. The Mythos was the first open-source work, after all!

To celebrate Play@Yog-Sothoth's third anniversary and to promote out new (Fan-) Fiction forums we've decided to run an original Mythos fiction competition. A panel of judges will select at least five pieces from those received as finalists for the sites members to vote as the winning piece. The competition is open until 31st December, with the finalists announced by the end of January and voting during February. We'll publish all entries in the new forums.

So get writing!

Submission for the competition will only be accepted by email - see the rules.

We're going to open up a whole new place for "Terrible Tales, Horrible Revelations and Dreams of Dark Days (Fan Fiction)" where general submissions of fictions, poems and art can be made.

Entries must be submitted electronically (via email), either in the form of a plain text file, a Microsoft Word document or standard PC-compatible email body text to fictioncontest@callofcthulhu.org.uk by midnight (GMT) December 31st 2008 with subject line reading: Play@YSDC Mythos Fiction Contest 2008
Either is fine, attachments must be as specified above. Any issues about files formats send me a PM and we'll sort something out.

Hey...is the word count limit new? Because I might have gone way beyond that-I'm not sure.

Don't think so. In planning the contest we wanted people to submit stories that were long enough to give them a chance to develop plot and story, but not so much that they would tax the judges (who do this freely). We will probably be tight about word length, so check what you got and revise. figure 250 words a page, these are still pretty long short stories.

The word count rule isn't new. Your submission totalled 2600ish words - so no worries :)
