"Yes, but not too fast," says
Sarah, hurrying back to the intersection along with
Lionel at the fastest safe speed.
"We don't want to do ourselves an injury. Oh, why did we ever come this way?"
"Yes, we should have listened to the coin," says
Lionel.
"Too late now."
"Once we reach the intersection, we can't keep going. That leads to those steep stairs. It can't follow us, but it could wait at the top and trap us down there. Nor can we turn right and follow the bridge underneath. We may not be able to get through that way, and we'd be trapped again. I think our best chance is to go back the way we originally came and cross the bridge. It won't be able to climb up there at least." She shudders, holding back tears.
"I really don't want to face that thing. I don't know how much more of this I can take..."
